Merry Christmas Eve!

Filed in Delaware by on December 24, 2012

I don’t have any recipes to share this year because I decided (after 20 years of cooking Christmas Eve dinner) to give myself a present and have tonight catered – nothing extravagant, just good food from a small local restaurant.  I even went to Fulton’s and purchased high quality disposable plates.  I’m feeling a bit guilty, but extremely relaxed and am actually looking forward to being part of the celebration this year.

I want to wish all our contributors and commenters a wonderful holiday and thank them for making DL a great place to hang out!

So… what are everyone’s plans?  And if your cooking, feel free to share your amazing recipes!

    You are simply brilliant pandora.

I’m up to my neck in preparations for tonight’s feast and feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. My 2013 resolution just became to have it catered next year. So glad I took a break to read DL and have a cuppa with you. I’m challenged because the family divides into those who won’t eat red meat and those who will only eat red meat. BTW, the red meat eaters are both pushing 90 — so much for that theory. Not only does it mean making two meat courses, but all the trimmings that go along with each. Absolutely having it catered next year. Whoot! You just made a free woman of me.

Glad to pass along a good idea! Right now I’m enjoying a Mimosa. Best. Christmas. Gift. Ever!

I’m lucky to have my parents and inlaws do most of the cooking! I make a ton of different cookies for my friends and family- I even take special requests. That is my favorite part of Christmas.. I just love desserts and my 4 year old can actually help.

4 year olds are awesome with cookies.

  5. puck says:

I prefer them with fava beans and white wine.

Weird Christmas for us this year. First year my dad is too sick to come over(we will visit him tomorrow) and my brother was just diagnosed with cancer so he and his beautiful wife and beautiful 4 and 1 year old will not be coming from out of state. (they caught it early, we are confident he will be ok but prayers are accepted 🙂 ) Christmas will be much more low key for us but I am doing ham, deviled eggs, potato salad, veggie tray, etc. and wine, lots and lots of wine. Rather boring traditional but all my favs. Didn’t mean to put a damper on this thread 🙂 it’s all ok and we’re all feeling thankful for each other and for what we have. To answer another thread, my favorite Christmas song is Snoopy vs. Red Baron. Not sure if it’s because it’s a great little tune or because it reminds me of flying around the hardwood floors in socks at Christmastime when I was a kid. 🙂 That would be tie with Bing Crosby and David Bowie Christmas song. Love reading this blog, I have learned a lot from you all, thanks Pandora and all, hope you all have a nice relaxing holiday season with your family and friends

    Same to you, Pencadermom!

Would that I could get my wife to scale back and relax, as yet no luck. Catering? I should live so long and not on a musicians meager pay (come on New Years Eve!!!). Pencadermom, best wishes for your brother, I know many people who have beaten cancer and hope to know more, that and total agreement on the wine.

    Merry Christmas to all.

Merry Christmas everyone! This year’s Christmas is a little more laid back than usual, but the wine selection is still awesome. I’m probably making a fish chowder for dinner tonite for us and then tomorrow my brother and his wife do all of the cooking. I’m planning on taste testing more wine and monopolizing the remote so I can watch old Christmas movies all day.

We just hung up the stockings and set out the cookies and bourbon for Santa.

  15. Joanne Christian says:

Oh great — Santa gets a DUI before getting to my house, and I’m left covering. Thanks puck :). I’m leaving out Anabuse then, so this night isn’t one ruinous mishap and I’m left with a complete wrench set.

Third dishwasher load just put away, wine glasses polished, pots scrubbed, wrapping debris collected and put in the trash. I think I’m done.

    To all a good night.
