LG Out

Filed in National by on December 12, 2012

I have been trying to put together a resignation post for a while now.  It is hard to capture the joy and pain, success and frustration that I have enjoyed for the past several years as a part of the DL team. But as a wise blog founder once told me, “Never let perfect be the enemy of the good enough”.

So I’ll be signing off as a contributor here to attend to other political, professional and personal endeavors, but I’ll be here as a commenter as time permits. As always, DL can count on me for any support that they may need.

Way to convince me that the War on Christmas is real, LG.

    Booo….

  3. LG, could you at least delay your decision until after the MVP post?

You just might see Charlie Brown get to kick the football. Johnny Larue just might get his crane shot. It could resurrect your faith in humankind, or at least in whatever sub-species I belong to…

I’ll cheer from the Peanut(s) gallery.

Okay. Here is the first of (probably) many testimonials. There would not be a Delaware Liberal without Liberalgeek. I had been doing for a while, but knew I didn’t want to do it on my own. So once when I was heading out on vacation I asked a young political blogger I liked to get a password and put up posts while I was out. He said, “Thanks, but no thanks.” Or some flaccid cliche like that, as he was want to speak in flaccid cliches.

SO I was all “Okay. I’m just shutting it down then.” That was October 2007, and like a stray cat shoved in his arms – he’s had sex with this blog on and off since then.

Okay (he didn’t have sex with the blog – (to the best of my knowledge)). The actual truth is, I’ve met a lot of friends and done some political stuff over the years, but if this blog ever did anything good in the real world – it was putting me in touch with this boyscout, Liberalgeek.

After commenting on Delaware Liberal for a while I received a really nice email from LG complimenting my writing and asking if I would be interested in becoming a contributor. I was so excited!

But what made it great was how nice and supportive LG was with me. I had zero tech skills – couldn’t post a link, yet alone a blockquote or an emoticon. Through it all, LG was there – always calm and endlessly patient.

Over the years he has become one of my dearest friends and a man who I have the greatest respect and admiration for – He is also one of the busiest people I know, and most of what he does benefits others.

Thank you, LG, for inviting me into your life.

  7. Many of you may not realize that, in addition to being a great blogger, LG has been our, or at least, my, go-to technology guy.

This computer, etc. stuff is still foreign to me. Not to mention that stuff crashes, the site goes down, etc. Without Geek, we’d be down a lot more than we’re up. And I, for one, would never have written a word that saw the light of day.

As Jason has said, DL wouldn’t be DL without him. I’m glad that he’ll still be hanging around even though he’s (temporarily, I hope) hung up his writer’s muse.

Besides, he’s great to drink with.

  8. Phillip Bannowsky says:

Tech guy? That could only be one guy I know. Busted.
    And congrats.

  9. liberalgeek says:

Thanks all. Don’t make me close down the comments… 🙂

I reject your reality and substitute my own. After the holidays we can look forward to daily posts from who am I kidding.Way to ruin my birthday and christmas and new years. You bastard! You can’t wait for Friday to bring me to tears?!? I only want the best for you and yours because you deserve it, not because it would please me more than a little bit. Fucking Hunter S. Thompson. Somebody should have seen this coming.

  11. Joanne Christian says:

Close down the comments? You may as well close down the house. LG was the first blogger who “outed” himself to me, when he approached me at a public event. He humanized and humorized this site back then when we ALL could laugh at things from:

What to do when you’re kicked out of Christiana Mall to what song was #1 the day you were born? He may be a liberal in politics, but he’s one heckuva decent human being TRULY concerned with a better world, and doing the lifting to get there. Anyone can spew utopia, and venomous insults, attach graphs (except me), and regurgitate tired talking points and rhetoric–but LG is doing the work, of helping to clean up this little corner of the world–and has always availed himself to attend, involve, participate, promote or lead whatever particular “better, benevolent” activity because the bottom line was the humanity of no politics. Ditto for his nice wife too, who so kindly joins in!! You will be missed in this capacity Geek–but I sure hope I am still going to see you around 🙂 !! Thanks for keeping me here LG!!

  12. Miscreant says:

Fuck! One of the few rational voices here. The commies have won.

  13. The commies have won? At least there’s an upside! Time to pour me some Pravda.

  14. Joanne Christian says:

Godspeed LG….oops, I mean Go with SkyDad.

  15. anon says:

Was it the whole 12/12/12 thing or should I just blame Obama? 🙁

  16. Dana Garrett says:

LG, best of luck to you and thanks for all the good blogging you’ve done.

  17. ek says:

I remain eternally grateful to LG for simultaneously introducing me to this site, Daily Kos, and the Chewbacca defense. I use all three to this day. I wish you much success in all you do, Geek.

  18. John Young says:

LG, thank you for the support you have shown me. Thank you for your service to children with special needs. And congratulations on the next phase, whatever it is and wherever it takes you (currently a WWF beatdown)

    Peace.

  19. Dave Burris says:

Come on, now. Nobody likes a quitter.

  20. Dorian Gray says:

This paves the way for the triumphant return of Donviti.

  21. cassandra m says:

So the end of the world must be near, because I am agreeing with Dave Burris. Or I’ve too much cold medicine.

Thanks for being so gracious and helpful when I needed it — especially when I first started writing here. And thanks for being a worthy sparring partner. 😉

  22. auntie dem says:

Oh noes. As you can see in this comment thread you are respected and loved around here and in all the other places where you volunteer and contribute LG. Whadda a guy. Good luck with your future endeavors. I’ll be looking for you in the comments.

  23. geezer says:

You will be missed, LG. And maybe, like Jason, you’ll find more time at some point in the future.

  24. Dave Burris says:

For the record, I was joking.

    Happy retirement, LG.

  25. jason330 says:

We got it. It had an element that you don’t see in many jokes made by Republicans – humor.

  26. Scritchy says:

Thank you soooo much for all your hard work, LG. I will continue to check in every day, hoping for the occasional appearance.

  27. heragain says:

    Just saw this. Damn.
