“It’s not me being stubborn; it’s not me being partisan. It’s just a matter of math.” — President Obama, in an interview with Bloomberg, hardening his position that he’ll accept no fiscal cliff deal without an increase in tax rates on the wealthy. What the President doesn’t understand, though, is that the Republicans are anti-math.

While everyone in the media, and the Republicans are hyper ventiliating about the Fiscal Cliff, er ah Slope, Wall Street is not worried. The Washington Post notes that in Washington, “debate over the ‘fiscal cliff’ is cloaked in apocalyptic warnings of soaring tax rates and a crashing economy. On Wall Street, the tone is different: All will be fine.”

“The stock market has been little changed in the past three weeks, with few wild swings. That comes despite the Jan. 1 deadline when tax hikes and spending cuts are to go into effect unless politicians reach a deal to avert them.”

This is because, if we are really worried about debt and deficit and credit ratings, which Wall Street ostensibly is, then there is no better deal on the table than going over the fiscal cliff.

“Marco Rubio is a pink handkerchief.” That was funny. BTW – Rubio recanted his anti-science dumbassery and admitted that there is no scientific debate around the fact hat the earth is at least 4.5 billion years old.

He’ll probably recant the recanting by the time he gets to Iowa.

  2. pandora says:

Yeah, but then Rubio stepped into it again by quoting his religious beliefs again, saying homosexuality is a sin. This guy is not ready for prime time.

I know it’s a little early (and a little warm), but… when can it start snowing at DL?

So the GOP is going to put more effort into better PR on the fiscal cliff negotiations, rather than put that effort into fleshing out the detail on their pretend-offer.

I suppose that isn’t much of a surprise, since the GOP is still not interested in governing. But this is interesting that somehow they thought it worth their time to let the media know that they couldn’t handle the White House’s stance without running to their lobbyists for help. Oh and more ledes like this please:

Frustrated by a White House that’s winning the fiscal cliff messaging war, […]

As syrian forces start mixing chemical weapons to use on their own people, the weakest president in U S history, Barack Obama urges them not to do it. And he actually thinks that warning will stop them. If we had a President with any backbone he would help arm the syrian people so they could defend themselves. But instead, President Barack Obama is going to stand by and let thousands get slaughtered

  10. Liberal Elite says:

    @Rd

So let me understand you. If someone in the world is about to use chemical weapons, and we don’t jump in with our military and stop them, then we’re acting weak? Did I get that right?

    Just checking.

Wasn’t it not so long ago conservatives were telling us America can’t be the world’s policeman?

I think after America’s senseless slaughter of tens of thousands of people on account of nonexistent WMDs, we are right to be a little more circumspect, certainly before injecting even more weapons into the Middle East. With the exception of our atomic bombing of Japan, probably more people have died on account of fake WMDs than real WMDs.

Jim DeMint resigns from Senate to head Heritage Foundation:

I didn’t see that one coming. But it makes sense.

see that, teaparty? You have no friends. All the people who claim to represent you are either too crazy and inept to stick around (Allen West) or are just in it for a high-paying “think” tank job. You are nothing to these people other than a source of money.

DeMint is now the King of Wingnut Welfare.
