I’m hoping for a statement, but in the meantime I’m willing to give credit where credit is due.

I believe the leader of the minority party will be able to bring in nearly all the Democrats to sign the petition. However; the Republican Speaker is not in control of his party caucus and cannot bring even five signatures on the petition. The petition will fail. The so-called bipartisan talks will fail and the Republicans will drive the Nation over the “cliff” in order to draw a line in the sand and state there vehement opposition to raise tax rates for theupper 2% richest Americans. And, voters will hold Republicans accountable for the damage incurred to our markets and the faith and credit of the United States. Republicans are nihilists and obstructionists ruled over by a cadre of extremists who promise to defeat any Republican that does not tow the Limbaugh/Norquist line. Republican Senators cast great shame on the Body yesterday be refusing to ratify the Disabilities Treaty. Republicans are clear in their ideology- they scorn the sick, the disabled and the economically less fortunate and they praise their rich and wealthy individual patrons and corporate sponsors.

I agree 100%. That’s what is distressing about seeing Democrats still willing to pretend that “comprise” with Republicans is useful or possible.

It is like compromising on the value of “2+2=?” If one party says that the value is “10” and one party says that is it “4” a mid-point compromise isn’t the correct answer.
