On Facebook, I got into a little fight with a friend of a friend who of course is a little upset that his chosen candidate did not win. And of course, like most conservative idiots, he is now contemplating treason by talking of secession of his state from the United States. Now, of course, most conservative idiots are uneducated, and thus it is not surprising that they don’t know that the issue, or question, of secession has long been settled. Indeed, we as a country fought a Civil War over that question and hundreds of thousands died after the Confederate states seceded from the Union and the Northern States said “Oh no didn’t.” And as a result of the Northern victory, or the victory of the United States over the traitorous Confederacy, the notion that a state can leave the US on its own volition died a bloody death.

This friend of a friend also mentioned that the election results were somehow not valid since only the cities and suburbs voted for Obama while vast swaths of sparsely inhabited land voted red. This guy obviously thought we vote by square acreage.

To illustrate the point that more Americans live in cities and suburbs, we have a great map from Princeton.

Someone should point out to these folk that the red states are taker states. Blue states pay the bills. Red states are on welfare.

If those red states left, who would prevent them from descending into 3rd world status. Who would pay their bills? Who would keep their roads paved?

There’s a reason that Puerto Rico is different than Cuba and Haiti. It’s largely due to federal dollars.

I got into the same “square acreage” argument with a high school friend. It went thusly:

Posts map along with quote “I felt a great disturbance in the Force… as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.” -Obi-Wan

I call bullshit. Discussing population density is not the same as Darth takeover.

He backs off realizing I called him out but says “I’m not disagreeing with you on how the system works. Just saying many voters had their voice over run by the populace of a major city.”

To which I replied “yes. many voters had their voice over run because a larger amount of voters had a louder voice. on that we can agree.”

    The end.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

It is amazing, explaining basic democracy to these conservative idiots. Yes, it is legal, constitutional and fair that you lost when your candidate got fewer votes than our candidate.

  4. Jason330 says:

Paul Ryan is already running for the GOP nomination going around saying that “the urban” vote overwhelmed the rest of the country.

The urban vote. What a fucking shithead.

  5. kavips says:

What is funny, it that these slightly dumb Conservatives want to run to Canada or Australia and not to Iran, Yemen, or Somalia where their Conservative values would actually be in sync with those of the local politicians….

And before being too judgmental on our Conservative friends who want to succeed, consider had the election been less of a wipe out and actually been stolen and Romney been victorious, whether or not some of the more extreme of us would be uttering close to the exact same thing….

    Let them blow off steam.

And then, when they realize we were right all along…. we’ll rub their noses in it… lol…

(I’m waiting for the next WDEL Rick Jensen led trip to embark for the Horn of Africa….) oh my, my side hurts… 🙂

  6. Geezer says:

The people who want to “succeed” are not my conservative friends. My conservative friends are reasonable people, not drooling simpletons.

Whatever I can do to help Texas secede, I will.

  7. Dave says:

    @kavips,

That’s an excellent point. Why don’t they run off to Iran, Yemen, or Somalia where their Conservative values would actually be in sync? If anyone has any those type of friends, ask them why Canada and Australia. I mean why go to democracy, where they are probably no better centrists and really are probably left of center? Further, they should be asked why Australia and Canada would even want them. I’ve been to Canada a zillion times and there is no way they would fit it there!

  8. Geezer says:

They don’t run off to those countries because in point of fact the U.S. is the most conservative country in the world that isn’t a dictatorship. The “country” conservatives love to point to is Singapore, a regime incredibly repressive of personal freedom.

This country, the one they’ve turned into a Third World shit hole, is actually the product of their policies. That’s what they’re blind to — that their “free markets” produce more and more of the poor people they so despise.

  9. cassandra_m says:

If anyone has any those type of friends, ask them why Canada and Australia.

There are lots of white people (no idea if they are majorities any more) speaking English in Canada and Australia. No way that a bunch of people insisting on English As the Official Language would deign to learn another one just to hold on to their delusions.

  10. socialistic ben says:

that’ll be nothing compared to the class action suit brought by people who thought they were being sold pizza, but instead got oil covered cardboard.

At least with Chik-fail-a, the food was tasty, and thus somewhat of a sacrifice to boycott…. Now, im just adding to the list of reasons i won’t eat Papa Johns.

  11. cassandra_m-

Are you attending the meeting tomorrow night? If so, see you there.

I am the disabled paratrooper that used to post on this site alot.. don’t have the energy much anymore.. 1st.. congrats on Obama, a true supporter of veterans and the other 47% ( yes I live totally on government money, and am not a crackhead as the racists like to characterize anyone who lives on government $$$ )..

my real issue is the crackdown on gambling in veterans posts.. gambling should be removed from these criminals.. why? first of all organized crime is involved and gets a major cut of the money.. second.. alot of money goes missing and there is zero transparency, and the crooks do alot to stay in charge of the drinking and gambling.. third.. these posts do nothing for veterans..especitally disabled veterans.. the bartender jobs are even political grift and they don’t even hire veterans for the jobs..

bottom line is they do nothing good with the money,, they do nothing for veterans,, aside from a few scholarships and a few other donations to causes, they do nothing..

I doubt any of them qualifiy as non-profits under IRS rules.. and most of the money is off the books.

  13. Jason330 says:

I’ve heard about the crackdown on gambling in veterans posts and benevolent Assn. lodges but haven’t seen anything in print on it.

  14. paratrooper18th says:
