A Libertarian Republican Melt Down For The Ages

Filed in National by on November 8, 2012

When I read Eric Dondero’s screed and threats about Mitt Romney losing the election I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  What I do know is this guy has serious problems.

Here are the highlights:

Express your hatred, shame, and outright disgust with anyone you know who voted Democrat

However, for me, I’m choosing another rather unique path; a personal boycott, if you will. Starting early this morning, I am going to un-friend every single individual on Facebook who voted for Obama, or I even suspect may have Democrat leanings. I will do the same in person. All family and friends, even close family and friends, who I know to be Democrats are hereby dead to me. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them. They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt.

Oh noes!  Eric’s going to show his disgust to the Obama voters in his life by de-friending them on Facebook.  That’ll show ’em that you’re a force to be reckoned with, Eric.  Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything so sad and pathetic.  Also… anyone else get the feeling that Eric’s family and friends might be relieved?

I strongly urge all other libertarians to do the same. Are you married to someone who voted for Obama, have a girlfriend who voted ‘O’. Divorce them. Break up with them without haste. Vow not to attend family functions, Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas for example, if there will be any family members in attendance who are Democrats. Do you work for someone who voted for Obama? Quit your job. Co-workers who voted for Obama. Simply don’t talk to them in the workplace, unless your boss instructs you too for work-related only purposes. Have clients who voted Democrat? Call them up this morning and tell them to take their business elsewhere’s.

Oh… oh my!  Divorce your spouse!  Break-up with your girlfriend!  Vow not to attend any family events that include Democrats!  I see many lonely holidays in Eric’s future, huddled in his basement with his barrels of rice and cans of beans.  I also see his family breathing a sigh of relief that they no longer have to include him, because I would lay money on the fact that having Eric at your holiday table, even before Romney lost, was a trial – with everyone walking on eggshells trying not to set him off.

Moving on…

Boycott Business who accept Welfare payments

Thirdly, I believe we all need to express disgust with Obama and Democrats in public places. To some extent I already do this. Example: When I’m at the Wal-mart or grocery story I typically pay with my debit card. On the pad it comes up, “EBT, Debit, Credit, Cash.” I make it a point to say loudly to the check-out clerk, “EBT, what is that for?” She inevitably says, “it’s government assistance.” I respond, “Oh, you mean welfare? Great. I work for a living. I’m paying for my food with my own hard-earned dollars. And other people get their food for free.” And I look around with disgust, making sure others in line have heard me.

Such a sad, little, little man.  Such a bully.

Is Eric working to get his Libertarian Republican message out?  Is he organizing?  Nope.  Eric Dondero is de-friending people on Facebook (that cracks me up) and withholding his dazzling presence from Thanksgiving dinner.  Honestly, this is one of the biggest temper tantrums I’ve ever seen.  Hey, Eric!  Have I got a woman for you!  Eric Dondero meet Shelly Dankert.

And here’s his vow…

If I meet a Democrat in my life from here on out, I will shun them immediately. I will spit on the ground in front of them, being careful not to spit in their general direction so that they can’t charge me with some stupid little nuisance law. Then I’ll tell them in no un-certain terms: “I do not associate with Democrats. You all are communist pigs, and I have nothing but utter disgust for you. Sir/Madam, you are scum of the earth.” Then I’ll turn and walk the other way.

Anyone get the feeling that the odds of Eric turning and walking away are slim?  He sounds like he’s looking for a fight, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find his name in a headline.  And if you think he’s all talk then he’s an impotent blowhard who’s instructing others to do what he won’t.

Steve Newton has a good post up that points out the Republican Party disintegration and features Eric’s screed.  Go read it.

Nationally, Libertarian Republican publisher Eric Dondero gives up on the entire political process and embraces everything from de-friending Democrats on Facebook to armed insurrection:

Steve sums it up the outrage:  “Get it?  The country is dead.  America died yesterday at the ballot box.  Those damn suburban women used their wicked ways to kill the Confederate Republicans at Cemetery Ridge, when all the Romney Rebels wanted to do was stand up for the right of the government to define legitimate rape.”

And while Steve Newton is mocking them, his summation is pretty spot on.  How dare women, African Americans, Hispanics, Gays, Urbanites, etc. not agree with the Romney Rebels?  In Eric’s (and others like him) world, they are the problem.

Let’s talk about “they.”

Republicans have a big “they” problem, and I can’t figure out how they solve it.  How do they change/soften/moderate their stance on abortion?  On immigration?  On gay rights?  On the 47%?  That’s a serious question, btw, and probably worthy of its own blog post.

But… if you head over to read Eric Dondero’s rant be sure to check out the comments.  The general consensus is that he’s a crazy person who desperately needs help… which sounds about right.

Congressional Republicans continue to identify with the Eric Donderos and Shelly Dankerts of the world. That would appear to offer the administration a big opening this year, as well as a cudgel for the 2014 mid-terms.

The Dems badly mismanaged the midterms last time out, hopefully history will not repeat. Republican ideas (and Republicans in general) are not popular. A winning strategy for the Dems would be to simply keep pointing that out.

Let Rove set billions of wingnut cash ablaze. Who cares, just get the message out that the GOP is a nest of lunatics.

Jason, this is the check-mate in the 11 dimensional chess game.

Unfortunately, Eric seems destined to forever remain in the Denial and Anger stages of grief. Sucks to be him. And I’d bet that the people he is de-friending are sitting at their computers saying “yes!”.

The good news, is that he won’t be here plumping up fake sex scandals anymore. Self-banning works for me.

  4. But, but…I LIKE fake sex scandals. Real ones, too.

  5. Another Mike says:

Apparently, Eric lives in Houston. Posted his cell phone number, too, in case you would like to find out why he unfriended you on Facebook. But he has a Delaware connection. From one of his many comments on his own post:

    “Eric Dondero said…
I disowned them this morning. On Facebook and through an email. But fortunately my parents are diehard Republicans, and a sister. It’s only the fucked up brother in Delaware, piece of shit, scumbag mother fucker who is a Democrat, and another sister in Philly who won’t tell me, but I’m almost certain voted for Obama.

They are dead to me now. And I will not under any circumstances attend their funerals in 30 or 40 years.

Harsh, but a reality.”

That was a thoroughly enjoyable trip aboard the crazy train.

  6. Geezer says:

Following the links, it appears Eric graduated from Newark High back in the ’80s, a time when young people were indoctrinated into Reaganism in large numbers (Hube is another unfortunate soul from that dark period of history).

I suppose he thinks the sad screed he penned represents some sort of “conservative (or libertarian) principles.” In reality it indicates mental illness.

In case any sane libertarians wonder, people like Eric Dondero are the reason nobody takes libertarians seriously.

  7. Steve Newton says:

Geezer, I don’t wonder. Why do you think I went to the trouble of posting about it and drawing pandora’s attention to it?

  8. pandora says:

    Yep, Steve was my source!

  9. liberalgeek says:

For the record, I graduated from Glasgow in the 80’s so Dondero has no excuse for being a douchebag by coming of age in the years of Reagan. I just hope he hasn’t procreated.

  10. Steve Newton says:

@geek: he hasn’t. He posted somewhere recently that he has let down the cause of producers (read white guys) by not having kids, and he is deeply remorseful over that.

  11. geezer says:

Steve: Hopefully somebody close to him will talk him down from this episode. As with everything else, they make a pill for that now.

  12. Bill Bower says:

    I won’t hire a democrat… not like they actually WANT a job..

  13. pandora says:

Holy crap! Eric Dondero is a nutcase. Also, notice how Mr. Eric “I just want to be left alone. Didn’t you read my GBCW post?” Dondero gives an interview.

Personally, I think he’s a sham and a liar who wrote a blog post to get attention. What a baby.

  14. AQC says:

Ooh, Bill, you got us with that one.
