Morning Election Day Open Thread [11.6.12]

Filed in Delaware, National, Open Thread by on November 6, 2012

The day is finally here.  You are probably still hearing from campaigns and some of you are still working for a few.  Use this thread to post your observations of what is happening at your polling place, what you hear happening in Delaware or anywhere in the country.

At this very late hour, are you still unsure about where your Polling place is?  Then click over to the Where’s Your Fucking Polling Place, type in your address and get to it.  (NO guarantees of accuracy on this thing, but it is funny.)

An interesting Election Day effort is being mounted by the Video the Vote crew, who are asking people to use their phones to video dodgy stuff going on at polling places.   Check this out and signup if you want to help document anything strange.

Here are some phone numbers:

  • Election Protection Hotline:  302.322.1140
  • Rides to Polls: 302.328-9036

What was it like at your polling place this today?

Here’s the real polling place finder for Delaware: http://pollingplace.delaware.gov/

    Polls are open until 8pm.

  2. meatball says:

Already back, good turnout at Zoar Church, the first time I have ever had to wait in line.

The fucking poll finder is spot on, Zoar Fucking Church Hall.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

At Aldersgate, which is Election Districts 2 and 3 in the 12th RD, there was a huge turnout for the 7 am poll opening. Lines out the building for both districts (more than 50 people). No candidates, poll watchers or campaign workers outside yet.

  4. JohnnyX says:

Just finished voting at Nur Temple at 13/40 split. Had to wait in line a while only to realize once I got to the table that I was in the wrong line. Greeters were mistakenly breaking people up only by last name and not also by district (two districts at same polling place). One very agitated voter, incredulous that he & family weren’t in book despite voting here for 20 years. Was still there sorting it out when I left.

One Nicole Poore supporter gave me a card on the way in, looked like more along with him when I came out. With all her efforts I gotta think she flips this district from Dori Connor.

  5. V says:

OH MY GOD IT’S TODAY YOU GUYS.

When I got to Aldersgate around 8:30 (we’re neighbors DD!) there was no lines but there was a steady stream in/out for both districts.

The pollsters commented on my glittery red/blue election day nails.

    LETS DO THIS.

Serious monkey business going on with voting machine software in up to 39 Ohio counties. A court is deciding whether to pull the voting machines and count all votes from those sites by hand. The Columbus Free Press has been tracking this story since last week.

  7. Idealist says:

Tom Kovach greeting voters at brandywine hundred fire hall.

  8. Dorian Gray says:

Moderately large turn-out at Highlands Elementary School in 40 Acres. I was there at 10 past 7 and there were several dozen people queued up, perhaps 50. Around 20 past I saw a friend of my girlfriend’s vote and she said she was in the queue when the doors opened @ 0700. Poll workers were tidy though – apprx. 15 minutes wait that’s all. Not bad.

  9. I love Election Day in Arden. We always turn out at a high rate. Some have also been known to turn out high.

Anyway, I was greeting for Chris Counihan, Brooke Bovard and offspring greeting for Bryon Short. Good turnout, lots of good-natured kidding. No real electioneering. I get the sense that Counihan will do significantly better here than he did two years ago.

But what I like is that our communities take voting seriously, but don’t take themselves too seriously while exercising their duty/right to vote.

Widespread reports of PA poll workers asking for photo ID, which they are apparently allowed but not required to do by the injunction:

  11. Delaware Dem says:

Hey, V! I live in Colonial Woods. Where do you live?

  12. BellefonteRoss says:

Voted at Mt. Pleasant Elementary this morning. Still not exactly sure why they switched my polling place from the Brandywine Hundred Fire Hall, considering it’s in Bellefonte and I live in Bellefonte and have to drive past it to get to Mt. Pleasant. Several people in line (~30 people at 8:30) said that they had been at the fire hall and were sent over. One gentleman said that he was confused by the change, and stopped at the school several days earlier to check it out and make sure he knew where he was going. While I was there, there were also people who were at Mt. Pleasant and were told that they needed to go to the fire house. Blah.

Anyway, Rep. Heffernan was there greeting voters. The N-Z section had a line of about 30 people, but every other section had no line at all. Go figure. In and out in 5 minutes.

  13. V says:

Off 202 where the Wawa USED to be (the true test of Delawarean directions: use landmarks that no longer exist).

  14. Delaware Dem says:

LOL. Then I drove through your neighborhood on Shellpot on the way to the polls this morning.

  15. Delaware Dem says:

Hey, since they are redoing that old Wawa building, does anyone know what it is going to be? I hope a new Wawa.

  16. V says:

According to my Dad (so I don’t know HOW reliable this is)

    Old Wawa – a bank
Golden Castle – some sort of 24 hour emergency medical center
Damons – ……..SUPER WAWA (oh please oh please…)

  17. V says:

and if google maps is any indication I apparently drive through yours to go to the doctor DD.

  18. Delaware Dem says:

Excellent for all of those. And yes, I would love a Super Wawa. I hate that Wawa at 202 and Naamans. I actually go to the one on Philly Pike on the way to work.

  19. mediawatch says:

    V,
You dad must have read the email blast Bob Weiner sent out last week.

  20. V says:

haha MW, more likely he ran into someone who did. He’s not an email blast sorta guy. Good to know he didn’t make that up out of thin air.

  21. pandora says:

Just voted at Park View – Steady stream of people (at least 10-15 people in line continuously).

  22. V says:

I would like to remind everyone that Disney’s Mary Poppins was a piece of dirty feminist propaganda.

Also, this was my favorite movie as a child. Explains a lot.

    Well done, Sister Suffragettes!

  23. John Berryhill says:

DelDOT really needs to put up a sign on Route 4 “Where the Dairy Queen used to be”

  24. Paula says:

Just back from Mary Fucking Campbell Center: Not crowded, but a steady stream of people, according to the Debra Heffernan greeter outside (she was the only greeter).
As we two went in, two people were leaving; three came in after us; then two more entered as we left.

  25. Geezer says:

“I would like to remind everyone that Disney’s Mary Poppins was a piece of dirty feminist propaganda.”

And I’d like to remind them that it still hasn’t been 100 years since women were given the franchise.

  26. BellefonteRoss says:

V/Mediawatch – the Redevelopment Plan is actually available on Bob Weiner’s NCCC site:

    link

  27. mediawatch says:

Looks like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig must have been Democrats!

  28. Jason330 says:

It would be awesome if Biden ran for county council in 4 years.

  29. Tom McKenney says:

Some things never change the Republicans had to lie and slander to defeat Al Smith.

  30. Voted at Lower Fucking Brandywine Presbyterian 3 min. after the polls opened. 20 people ahead of me & 20 more showed up while I was waiting. Looked like a big turnout @ Wilmington High when I drove past on my way to work.

I’m an independent, but I voted straight D save for Mobley and Blake. Tom & Karen can kiss my pasty white ass. I cast no vote in the Katz/Lavelle race. They’ve both proven themselves to be douchebags.
