UPDATED: NYC Marathon Canceled (Previously Titiled: Not Canceling The NYC Marathon Is A Mistake)

Filed in National by on November 2, 2012

The reasons given for not canceling the marathon seem to be it will be good for morale and that it generates money.

Well, I’m not sure how you can count on money when many people can’t get into the city and the morale argument seems to only apply to those able to attend the event – not those whose communities are still suffering.  Also, using the police and other city service personnel for anything other than Hurricane relief seems ridiculous – not to mention really bad optics.

But I could be missing something.  What do you think?

I think we all owe Pandora a “thank you” for weighing in and being the last straw in getting the marathon cancelled….. i mean, it HAS to have been this original post. 🙂

I really love the NYC tough it out approach, but I really wondered about assigning resources to this race while there are still plenty of NYers who are hauling water all over town and up many flights of steps every day.

Can I make my donation to the Red Cross contingent upon NONE of it going to Staten Island? We don’t know you.

Too bad about the marathon. It would have been Paul Ryan’s fastest time ever.

About the Staten Island incident where nobody would let the mother in and two children died: it’s the Kitty Genovese murder all over again. By the way, if you’ve ever been to Staten Island, it’s a lot more like New Jersey than New York. I’m not sure the outcome would have been the same in the other boroughs.

In times of crisis some people are there for others. The rest look out for themselves.

It’s too bad the mother was unaware of the hurricane and the evacuation order, she might be able to travel to a place where her children would have been safe. I wonder if there are improvements needed in communicating what citizens need to do to be prepared?

If you read the article dave, it appears she was TRYING to evacuate. Her car became stuck and the people in that neighborhood on Staten Island refused to help a person in need. I bet Romney carries that area.
