More Delaware GOP FAIL

Filed in National by on October 3, 2012

The hapless Delaware GOP has decided to show the world just how toothless they currently are by deciding to try to gin up some pressure on Governor Jack Markell to not take a job that he doesn’t have an offer for yet. Seriously — this is what they want to talk about *today*. Remember, Politico posted up their highly speculative article, guessing that Gov. Markell would be selected for Secretary of Education in President Obama’s second term on September 14 (and Delaware Dem wrote about it the same day). 19 days later, GOP Chair Siglar and Gov. candidate Jeff Cragg are haplessly demanding that Governor Markell pledge to serve out his full term. More weak sauce from the Delaware GOP.

Asking for pledges to complete terms always strikes me as desperate. And asking for said pledge based on some speculation from the horse race press is especially desperate. Waiting to ask for this pledge 19 days after it was first reported is close to political malpractice. And this is especially easy for Jeff Cragg to ask for since he is in no danger of going anywhere except back to his business in November. I may have missed this one, but has Mr. Cragg pledged to give up his small business if by some miracle he manages to win in November?

A party out of power ought to be way more bold that this –especially in a place where some boldness might be welcome. But I think that what we are seeing here is the real weakness of the GOP message. Folks get that much of this is just BS and doesn’t have much to do with their daily lives. Is it possible? And we certainly do not have a GOP that is ready to step away from the party line and actually work for the people of this state (rather than themselves), which accounts for their sinking fortunes.

But seriously, you guys are going to have to do better than demanding “pledges” to get people to take you seriously.

Give those two jokes a break. Seriously, what else can they talk about?

They can’t talk about how their party will help everyday people. We know it doesn’t apply to the 47%.

They can’t talk about deficits. We know Democrats leadership has spent less than any Republican leader ever did.

They can’t point top successful Republican track records. Right now New Jersey is blowing up under Chris Christie and by November, may be a basket case.

They can’t talk about guns. Mention the word guns, and anger boils up in every voter and they will vote blue.

They can’t talk about their uterus. It causes people to run from the Reds.

They can’t talk about ideals and dreams. They have none.

They can’t talk about health care. People are pretty excited now that they are finally understanding the true benefits, and how cheap it will cost them.

They can’t talk about financial security. The stock market if they were in, has doubled under Obama…

They can’t talk about taxes. All know that the reason our economy is in dire straits, is because we let the wealthy off the hook for so many effin’ years.

They can’t talk about their track record. It is full of losers.

They can’t talk about their warmth and appeal. They have none.

They can’t talk about freedom. They are the economic oppressors.

They can’t talk about patriotism. They believe in the intimidation of those who happen to think differently than they do….

They can’t talk about minorities. They want old, white, male-only rule.

They can’t talk about the military. They have been proven wrong.

They can’t talk about morality. They’re VP is a pathological liar.

They can’t talk about sexual prowess. They are impotent.

They can’t run off of corruption. They are the most corrupt party of all four.

They can’t run by being nice people. They are mean and bitter losers when compared to the really nice Democratic opponents they happen to be running against….

So really, they are stuck. They signed on, and they can’t really get out of it, they are going to get abusively drummed, so let them have one tiny measure of respect… Let them stand on the razor thin line or red truth and raise question over whether Markell will last his full term…..

After all, no one will listen. No one will believe them, so it is just ranting at the wind… but give them some humanity and some measure of harmless self respect.

They are, after all, like that little stranded kitten who shows up at your back door, having no where to go and desperate for some tiny piece of love and encouragement and nourishment….

Just be glad, you are not a republican.

Two possible reasons for the GOP wanting Markell to serve a full second term:
    1. He will be more effective than Cragg in promoting the interests of businesses owned by Republicans.’
    2. They fear the prospect of having to find a candidate against an incumbent Gov. Matt Denn in 2016.

  4. John young says:

So Republicans want to defeat Markell in November, but when he wins are demanding he serve all of his term?

Weak sauce is a dramatic understatement.

yet these teabags love Palin the half term quitter

  6. Geezer says:

Demanding a full term from Jack Markell reveals a lack of confidence in their Lt. Gov. candidate’s ability to win in November, doesn’t it?

  7. SussexWatcher says:

Amazing how utterly invisible Cragg has been. Even a dog-tired drafted Bill Lee did a better job than Mailbox Man.

  10. LNCC says:

That’s what “R”s do when they are down in the polls and run a non-starter in the first place. – They hold a press conference, throw out some stupid pledge based on a rumor. Then they “Challenge” the incumbent to adhere to THEIR pledge so he “Cuts his own throat”. And, there is no pleasing them as they will come back again and again knowing they did a “Gotcha”. The usual act of desperation.
