More Delaware GOP Disarray!

Filed in Delaware by on October 3, 2012

The NJ reports that the GOP candidate for Lt. Governor is teaming up with Alex Pires to campaign at an event on Saturday in Newark. Go read that again. The local GOP candidate for Lt. Governor (R-She Didn’t Build That) is NOT campaigning with her party’s nominee for the Senate ( wingnut wannabe Kevin Wade), but with the Independent candidate, Alex Pires.

Apparently they’ll be at an event in Newark at 1PM:

“We recently announced the coalition of Delaware Democrats who have come together to back our campaign, and we are thrilled that Independents and college students are also coming forward to support us,” Valenzuela said in a statement distributed by the Pires campaign.

In his own statement, Pires says he’s supporting Valenzuela and hopes to continue campaigning with the Republican in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 6 election. “I look forward to appearing at more events over the next month with the woman we all hope is going to be our next Lieutenant Governor as well as someone who wants the same thing as I do, to change the status quo in Washington.”

Weird, right? A coalition of Delaware Dems, Independents and college students causes this “rising star” of the local GOP to team up with Alex Pires. Jonathan Starkey notes that he got this info from a press release being distributed by the Pires camp. There’s nothing about this on Velanzuela’s website (although there is this thing about a Wilmington Democrat –John Czerwinski — heading up a Democrats for Sher group) and I defy you to find anything on Pires’ mess of a webpage.

So what’s going on? Weigh in, if you know anything. Starkey notes that he is trying to contact the Valenzuela campaign.

h/t to Rose Izzo for bringing this to our attention. We know that Ms. Izzo is supporting Mr. Pires for Senator already.

Pretty interesting move. They’re still both going to lose though.

  2. Andrew Groff says:

Pires is a closet teabagger. First Rose Izzo, now Valenzuela. Look, if you really want a progressive in this race, you only have one choice, me. I don’t pander away our values and I haven’t sold out to anyone. If you want real change in DC, you’ve got to go Green.

One has called me an opportunist. I don’t know what he meant by that, but there is an opportunity here to have a clear progressive choice.. Ask me the tough questions. You will get an honest reply. You can then decide.

  3. Jason330 says:

Nice work Sigler! You truly are a GOP chairman for the ages.

So Starkey updates his post with this after the Valenzuela campaign got back to him:

Valenzuela responded to our request for additional comment on her event with Pires. Here’s what she said: “I’m looking at enlarging the tent of ideas. As Republicans, we’re not going to win if we don’t enlarge the discussion. One party rule doesn’t work. WE better reach out across party lines with solutions and ideas that people can simply have a chance to embrace or consider.”

So the translation seems to be that Sher is throwing her GOP teammates under the bus because they aren’t getting anywhere near the attention Pires is.

  5. Jason330 says:

This complicates the geometry of Sussex Teabagism. Wade is the teabag, but Pires is the wild -eyed outsider. I need an aspirin.

  6. puck says:

I’m still rooting for a Carper win by a plurality.

  7. SussexWatcher says:

You do realize Wade belongs to the upstate dipwads, not the downstate ones, right?

  8. Jason330 says:

I hadn’t tracked on that. When he started spewing the usual teabag nonsense I just assumed Sussex. My bad.

  9. SussexWatcher says:

Yeah, you can have Mr. Big Head. We’ve got enough of our own weirdos without having yours foisted on us …

It’s sad that Wade got his endorsement from the old-money republican idiots that still control the GOP, even after Tom Ross was censured by the Sussex County GOP and ejected as Chairman. It is a fact that Sigler is controlled by the Castle/Tom Ross clique. Nothing has changed in the State GOP. The truth is: Sussex County Chairman Jerry Wood, who is a conservative is being conspired against by upstate GOP Bluebloods who want to control the Sussex County GOP.
Nobody can control the petty crap that is now controlling the State GOP, but Chairman Wood is a solid leader and operates as a sovereign operative within the GOP in Delaware to win elections apart from the State GOP.
The State GOP sucks Badly and is disorganized.

To be fair, the upstate GOP Blueboods are themselves being controlled by AGENDA TWENTY-ONNNNE!!

, but Chairman Wood is a solid leader and operates as a sovereign operative within the GOP in Delaware to win elections apart from the State GOP.

Ron Sams was a winning Sussex Chairman in 2010 but the Sussex County Crazy Brigade forced him out with threats of personal destruction backed up the threats with radio ads that played 24/7 on GMD until he gave in and agreed to resign.

Not everything in politics is a conspiracy, sometimes candidates are just fucked up people. What’s going on with EB is an example of just that.

  13. traveler says:

You are correct in your assessment of the upstate Bluebloods being driven by Agenda 21, but with Ayotte in the County Council, they will have no chance of accomplishing that objective. BTW, they hate Ayotte with a passion. I wonder why? Ayotte will win the County Council seat from Deaver and Agenda 21 will never happen in Sussex county.
The Sussex County Bluebloods are eating at the same table as the progressive liberals who would sell the GOP in a New York second for the right money or power. They need to go!

Traveler, you sure sound a lot like a Guy-Whose-Name-Rhymes-With-Nutsack.

I appreciate your great guess but I believe you must be talking about Mr. Protack and your are ten light-years off. I will give you a clue. I live in Sussex County.

  16. SussexWatcher says:

Actually, I meant Johnny Nutsack. Good guy at third base, but with a permanent inferiority complex.
