Soledad O’Brien Calls Out Gov. Jack Markell For ‘Ridiculous’ Obama Answer

Filed in Delaware, National by on September 29, 2012

They were talking about Obama’s debate prep, and Markell got called out because he was too smooth.

O’Brien also described a recent CNN/ORC poll that found that 59 percent of respondents believed that the president will win the debate.

“That’s got to be a concerning number, right? If the expectation is very high, if you don’t meet or reach above that, you have a problem,” O’Brien said to Markell. “Are you worried about that?”

“Well my guess is what people are really saying is that they believe President Obama really understands their issues, their concerns. He’s got a better plan for the future,” Markell said of poll respondents.

O’Brien interrupted the governor almost immediately.

“I have to stop you right there, because that is not what they’re saying in the poll. Honestly. Please,” she said. Panelists on set began laughing, as did O’Brien.

“It was so smooth, and yet so ridiculous, I had to stop you in the middle!” O’Brien said.

I wouldn’t call it a ridiculous answer, because everything about the debate expectations game is ridiculous. What is he supposed to say there as an Obama surrogate?

“Why yes, Soledad, I am worried. And the President should be too. My God, if expectations are that high he is finished and might as well turn over the keys to the White House right now.”

But yes, the answer was smooth. And Markell is one of the better Obama surrogates.

I get the feeling that they were broken up by how ridiculously smooth he was.
