Looks like Don Ayotte is the Asshole

Filed in Delaware by on September 14, 2012

So some fan of Don Ayotte, or the teabagger king himself, is going around Sussex County vandalizing the signs of Marie Mayor, the Democratic nominee for the new 20th RD and County Councilwoman Joan Deaver:

The sign above was at a T intersection and stupidly enough painted on both sides, but hey, teabaggers are at the low end of the intelligence scale.

During a recent radio appearance, Ayotte called the vandalism “Democrat on Democrat vandalism,” which makes no sense since Deaver had no primary opponent. Sounds to me like he is trying to deflect responsibility.

I wonder why Ayotte and his teabagging followers feel the need to vandalize Deaver’s signs if they think their ideas are so superior. Maybe they are just fascist thugs.

These guys are a blight. When it looked like O’Donnell was going to knock off Castle, my one concern had to do with some percentage of our fellow Delawareans coming down with just this sort of incurable political rabies.

Calling all sane Republicans! Your party and state needs you.

  2. nemski says:

@Jason330, all you will hear are crickets and, maybe, some katydids.

  3. nemski says:

I’m waiting for Ayotte’s campaign to blame Deaver’s campaign for this.

  4. skeptic says:

as always, keepin’ it classy in Sussex Co.

  5. Undecided says:

Ayotte is many things, but I doubt he has a hand in this or knows who does.

As to sign vandalism, I’ve seen lots of Republican signs vandalized over the years, and am aware of several incidents this season, but I don’t see you guys whining about that.

Mike Ramone had a whole host of signs stolen several years ago, only to be discovered at the bottom of a ravine — the work of several teenagers. Again, I didn’t see anyone here particularly concerned.

Stell Parker-Selby had her picture on her signs, and it was marked up in several instances. Yet I wouldn’t attribute those actions to Markell. Should I, though, call democrats bad names because of it? Should I have suggested Markell and his cronies were racists? I don’t think so, but based on your post here, maybe I should jump to that conclusion.

Sign vandalism is wrong, no matter who does it, but to paint with a broad brush and insults, the way this blog always does, just reinforces the notion of how childish most of the posters here are.

  6. Jason330 says:

Undecided my ass. Only a Republican could defend this vandalism so poorly.

  7. anon says:

It’s a little different when the people who claim to have superior values spray paint “ASSHOLE” on signs in bright orange paint in places where children can see them. In my many years in Delaware, this is the first and only time I have ever seen profanities spray painted on campaign signs. Even in 2010 the vandalized Castle signs in Sussex only said “time to go.” This is a new level of nastiness and it’s unacceptable.

Don Ayotte goes to Indian River School District board meetings to say The Lord’s Prayer because council members can’t, he needs to get on the air and instead of blaming Democrats for the vandalism, ask whoever is doing it to STOP because it hurts the community. THAT is what a REAL Christian would do.

  8. Jason330 says:

It is also what a real American or a real human being would do.

  9. Dave says:

“Ayotte is many things, but I doubt he has a hand in this or knows who does.”

It may be that Ayotte does not know who vandalized the sign, but it’s a pretty safe bet that if the person were identified, that Ayotte would personally know him.

Judge the candidate by his supporters. Those who support Ayotte are so far out there that whatever it is they see in Ayotte is not something we want or can afford in Sussex County.

Joan Deaver recognizes and is sensitive to the current and future needs of the county. She doesn’t play party politics but does offer a balance on the county council. The fact that her views garner this kind of hate speaks volumes about those who would commit such acts.

  10. Geezer says:

There are oodles of reasons not to vote for Don Ayotte. The fact that he and/or his fellow travelers are assholes is pretty low on the list.

  11. hmm says:

This is ridiculous. Signs are just signs. And guess what everyone hates them. Ayotte might or might not have anything to do with the vandalism, but there is no way to know. It should be treated as random vandalism not some sort of political act. I have been on many campaigns and 99% of “stolen” signs are non political people taking them for some reason or another. One year a bunch of kids took all of the signs and put them at the entrance of St. Marks, another time a neighbor of mine got pranked by his friends and woke up to a front yard full of random yard signs. They are signs for gods sake.

  12. anon says:

Hmmmm and Undecided why don’t you come on down to Sussex and explain to our children that this type of vandalism is acceptable.

We’re not talking about people taking signs, we’re talking about people spray painting profanities on signs in big, neon letters. Signs that sit in public places where we go shopping with our children.

  13. hmm says:

I agree it’s intolerable and wrong. But it’s vandalism, all vandalism is bad. It could be anyone for any reason.

But there is no reason to assume the campaign has anything to do with it.

I have been on several campaigns where things happened to our opponents signs. One candidate even tried to make it a campaign issue through robocalls. But in the end it was just random people who were annoyed that their signs were everywhere.

All I’m saying is don’t make it a political issue, it’s just stupid to do that.

  14. anon says:

Except, hmmm, that I have seen the vandalized signs and some of them are located in areas that are in a sea of campaign signs but only Deaver’s signs are vandalized. If it was random, why weren’t ALL of the signs spray painted?

  15. hmm says:

If I could explain and predict the actions of others, I’d be a rich man.

  16. Dave says:

Explaining is one thing. Predicting is another. This was predictable given the venom that exists in some parts of Sussex County. The explanation? My guess is insanity. Anyone who knows Joan, knows she is not what was written on those signs. That might be said about a lot of politicians, but not about Joan.

  17. Dave says:

    DD,

Do you know the specific location for the defaced signs?

  18. Delaware Dem says:

There are several locations. I know one of them is on Rt. 9 by the Lowe’s. I can find out the others….

  19. Undecided says:

Hey Anon, I said all sign vandalism was wrong. All of it. End of story. But trying to use the vandalism to attack the other side in the absense of any proof is wrong also and just another reason why politics have become so corrosive.

And, by the way, some of the things done to Stell Parker-Selby’s signs were actually quite worse.

  20. I condemn vandalism unequivocally.

  21. skeptic says:

Plenty of these cropped up a few days prior to the election on Robinsonville Rd. as you head toward 5 points. I noticed several Deaver signs that had “Bitch” spray painted across them. They were gone by the next day.

  22. Geezer says:

    “I condemn vandalism unequivocally.”

Not me. I love good graffiti.

  23. joan deaver says:

Thanks to all for calling this to our attention. If you see another please pick it up and destroy it.
    Joan

  24. fightingbluehen says:

That sign was at the T intersection of Robinsonville Rd, and Plantation Rd. I came across it on the way to work. It was the only sign in a group of about five that was defaced. It was painted on both sides so that the soybeans on the back side could read it. Probably painted beforehand in order for the perpetrator to make a clean getaway.

  25. Dave says:

And of course it had to be intentionally placed there so that Joan would see it coming and going during her daily travels.

This is the type of supporter that Ayotte attracts. Judge the person by their supporters.

  26. fightingbluehen says:

Yeah, I was surprised that it was so obviously displayed in broad daylight , and that nobody had removed it. So I took the initiative.
