A Little Hot in Here

Filed in Science and Health by on September 12, 2012

Thank goodness for August. If the dog days didn’t cool down, we probably would have had the hottest summer on record.  As it was, Delaware experienced our third warmest summer on record since 1895. I’m glad that the Democrats are finally beginning to campaign on effects of climate change on our world.

Summer 2012 officially closed for meteorological purposes at the end of August, with the final outcome of it the third warmest summer since 1895 for the US lower 48.  Only 1934 (74.5) and 2011 (74.6) were warmer in official statistics than the final average temperate of 74.4 in the US.  We were on pace for the warmest summer on record in the US thanks to July’s record but August’s warm-but-not-too-hot final result helped nudge us down in the standings from first to third.

I’m not scientist, but two consecutive records isn’t a very good sign.

  2. fightingbluehen says:

Third hottest in roughly a hundred years? Wow, that’s a long span of time. Especially when you are talking about climate trends.
I’ve got an exercise for you. Draw out a time line of one hundred thousand years…. Then mark a hundred years on that time line to scale. Not such a large area to draw conclusions from is it?
It’s human nature to view time based on our life span, and equate it with the rhythms of a planet, but it’s not always going to be accurate.

    FBH, here you go.

  4. Jason330 says:

Now that Democrats are out front on this, deadenders like FBH are much easier to take.

  5. fightingbluehen says:

That’s not a one hundred thousand year timeline is it nemski? Also your warming , according to that scale, only shows about a thirty year warming trend based on the starting point, and how can you assume that the data interpreted from a thousand years ago is compatible with the more recent data. Also there is a chance that the data collected from the weather stations has been subjected to urban micro climates that were cooler when most of those weather stations where installed around the second world war.
All that chart shows is that we are coming out of the short term cooling trend of the “Little Ice Age”.

Willard Rmoney should just build himself a White House.

    Comment: Part 1 of 2

The Tea Party people were willing to believe the 1%er millionaire/billionaire lies regarding global warming. The world is ccoooooooling. Ha. The Tea Party now has a person, who is now ‘changing’ to become a climate skeptic’s man in the White House. That’s right, it is Rmoney who is’changing’ from believing in climate change to wanting to be the President, with an “Official Policy of Denial.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbQKry5Z_ok

Based on his Bain Capital experience as a businessman, Rmoney feels he belong in the White House. There’s no evidence of that.

Rmoney has made money. If he made his money loading companies with debt until they went bankrupt, if he ‘”liked to fire people,” if he made his money sending American jobs overseas, outsourcing, if he continued to make his money at Bain, when he said he didn’t, if he kept profits overseas and in offshore bank accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands, if he manipulated the tax codes, if he has only submitted part of one year’s return, voters know – this is how he wants to run America. In other words, you don’t need to know the real Willard Rmoney. (Of course, that’s a lie.)

Just base your vote, on a secretive past and on the flip flopping, lying words of Rmoney?

He might have done this or that, he might believe this but also that; he might have said that not this, he might have earned this or that, he might own interests in this and that’ he might not have paid this or that, but you people, you voters, you don’t have to know.

“We’ve given all ‘you people’ need to know and understand about our financial situation and about how we live our life,” Mrs. Romney said on ABC. “The election, again, will not be decided on that,” she continued. Ann would like to you believe this, ‘he’s you.’

The election should be decided on this – The Rmoneys don’t want Americas to know – who he really is, what he really believes.

So yes, the election will be decided – in favor of President Obama, the American leader people know and believe.

    And this:

Ann, wife of the Tea Party candidate for President says, “There are so many things that will be open again for more attack, and you just give more material for more attack, and that’s the answer.” That’s the answer all right. Ann Rmoney says, you don’t need to know, what that material is – because it is material for more attack. This, from the horses mouth, as they say.

    Comment: Part 2 of 2

On the other hand, the Tea Party lied over and over again, and lie about the fact that the President of the United States has been an American citizen from the moment of his birth, a half century ago, which of course was the truth all along.

When it come to the matter of Willard Romney’s own advancement, the Tea Party, the Republicans and the Democratic voters need to fact check Willard as Willard has proven – he will lie about anything, even the dire condition of the planet.

Willard bought himself a $12,000,000 beachfront house, because he likes the sound of waves. He has engineering plans to bulldoze that house down after the election, to build a house four times larger in it’s place, with a garage elevator. Willard also has his eye on the White House.

What is worrisome, is what Rmoney DOES say: “Under the Romney Administration the US will have an ‘Official Policy of Denial.’ This will do away with the myth of Global Warming.” End Rmoney quote. ” I don’t believe in the science.” Romney says; then, “we don’t know what’s causing climate change on the planet,”

Seriously republicans, a person who wants to be in the White House, but is willing to lie and say he doesn’t know what causes climate change?

Opps, but he had lied again:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G598Xno5qU

If one is a candidate running for the office of the President of the United States, before telling the American people his own convenient lies regarding the science of climate change, he should at least fact check with 99.9% of the world’s legitimate climate scientists, not hire a skeptic spokesperson who was formerly working the hoax lie, for one of the world’s billionaire corporate skeptics. Decades of denial have already caused the world trillions in damages, millions of lives. By the way, do to the decades of overwhelming, legitimate proof, even skeptic 1%ers now admit, climate change is real, but still back more fossil fuel exploration, more fossil fuel usage, no mention of CO2 in the Clean Air Act, no regulations on anthogogenic CO2, back no responsibility for climate change and back the defunding of clean energy resources and development, de funding of climate change research, as well as attacks on legitimate climate scientists.

The polluters now say, Americans and people around the world can ‘adapt.’ to climate change as the 1% continues to profit by pollution. They want their climate liar in the White House as well.

Nemski, I’m not denying that the Earth may be warming. I think it is likely that it is, seeing that the Earth warms in between ice ages. I’m not even denying that man may have an influence on the overall climate trend, although that seems unlikely to me. I just can’t see forcing hardships on people because of theory that is far from being proved and theory that is being used as a political movement not to mention a means for unscrupulous people to make loads of money off of.

  9. Liberal Elite says:

    @fhb

What’s wrong with making loads of money off of global warming?

It’s a problem that needs fixing… and we could put lots of people to work fixing it. Why let the Germans and the Chinese have all the green jobs??

  10. fightingbluehen says:

Yeah LE, what’s wrong with starting a “company” and using the fervor and panic of global warming to milk the country out of funds that could be better used elsewhere. Especially when you know the company is not viable, and all you want to do is walk away rich. Solyndra comes to mind.

  11. pandora says:

Can we please stop debating climate science with a guy who took an undergrad Climatology course at UD over twenty years ago?

The science on climate change is in.

  12. Liberal Elite says:

    @fhb “Solyndra comes to mind.”

If only 10% of the companies that are supported make a big impact, then it’s still worth doing. The result of failure does NOT mean that the risk was bad.

Solyndra was killed by a concerted Chinese effort to dump solar cells. It’s a shame that we let them steal much of that technology’s research effort.
