Secrecy envelopes RNC’s racist incident
Two GOP delegates threw nuts at a black CNN camera woman and taunted her saying, “This is how we feed animals.” They were ejected, but shortly thereafter the Romney campaign, the GOP and CNN threw a blanket of secrecy over the incident and more than 24 hours later, the secrecy is holding. …

“A well-placed Republican source tells Townhall that Oscar-winning director and actor Clint Eastwood will travel to Tampa, Florida to attend Mitt Romney’s nominating convention this week… Our source — who spoke on the condition of anonymity — could not confirm if Eastwood is, in fact, the intriguing ‘to-be-announced’ speaker, but stated unequivocally that the Dirty Harry star will arrive in Florida late on Wednesday or early on Thursday, and will return to southern California on Friday.”
Wilmington Mayor’s Race — Gloves Coming Off Edition
There is a crazy amount of campaign material that is coming in my mail on a daily basis and I probably shouldn’t admit that I look at all of it. Mainly to assess campaign strategies and wonder at the fact that I sometimes hear more from candidates who are supposed to represent me via these crazy mailings than I do in RL (*cough* Bob Marshall *cough*). Anyway, yesterday’s mail produced the first real hit piece I’ve seen for the Mayor’s race — there may be others that I don’t get, but this one made me chuckle.
The Polling Report [8.29.12]
A small little polling report for you today, after the motherload of polls released yesterday. There is only one state level poll, and that is of Iowa by PPP, which changes Iowa to Lean Obama to Slim Obama. Meanwhile, some national polls are detecting a bounce from the GOP convention …. for President Obama.
Sher Valenzula is a fraud and a liar
Yes. It is that simple. In her speech to the Wingnut National Convention, she had the opportunity to tell the truth about how she leveraged government programs including recent stimulus funding to build her business, but instead she decided to lie. She blamed the President for keeping her business down by imposing “new regulations” while never acknowledged the government’s role in getting her business off the ground. …
The IC’s Office Resorts to Pay to Vote
A variation on Pay to Play, to be sure. I don’t know that this got much attention by the NJ, but recently, Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart claimed that the Captive Insurance section was suddenly generating a “surplus” AND that she was having that “surplus” returned to the General Fund to be specifically directed to the City of Wilmington. This is a pretty sweet deal and interesting that suddenly this program has a surplus. It is even more interesting that she just sends a big chunk of that “surplus” to the City of Wilmington, which is the source of one of the few Party endorsements she received.

Delaware Democrats Take On Valenzuela
>Delaware Democratic Party Executive Director Joe Aronson and and small business owner Gemma Buckley will hold a press call ahead of Sher Valenzuela’s speech at the Republican National Convention on the night themed “We Built It.” Although Sher will say she built her business all on her own, her company, First State Manufacturing, has taken OVER $2 MILLION IN SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION-GUARANTEED LOANS and has obtained more than $15 million in government contracts.
Mystery Speaker At Republican Convention?
What isn’t a mystery is that this person will be given a prime slot on Thursday evening. Via WSJ:
Buried deep in the convention schedule released Monday is a vague reference to a mystery speaker scheduled for the event’s final evening. “To Be Announced” has a prime speaking slot late in the Thursday program.

The Economist, a bastion of liberal thought (/sarcasm), doesn’t seem to like Mittens:
Mr Romney may calculate that it is best to keep quiet: the faltering economy will drive voters towards him. It is more likely, however, that his evasiveness will erode his main competitive advantage. A businessman without a credible plan to fix a problem stops being a credible businessman. So does a businessman who tells you one thing at breakfast and the opposite at supper. Indeed, all this underlines the main doubt: nobody knows who this strange man really is. It is half a decade since he ran something. Why won’t he talk about his business career openly? Why has he been so reluctant to disclose his tax returns? How can a leader change tack so often? Where does he really want to take the world’s most powerful country?

We are now seeing some polls switch over to their “Likely voter” screens. I hate “Likely Voter” screens because it allows whatever organization to play with the numbers even more than when they play with the demographics. Further, “Likely Voter” screens are biased towards Republicans. Since who turns out from election to election varies wildly, I think Likely Voter Screens based on prior elections are almost always inaccurate. Thus, I prefer, when given a choice between Registered Voters and Likely Voters, to go with Registered Voters. Unfortunately, as the election draws near, all polling outfits and media organizations switch over to their own Likely Voter screen. C’est la vie.
The changes in our map this time are from new polls in Ohio and Michigan which show each state a tie, while we have Florida getting bluer.
Mitt Romney’s Debate Problem
I’ve been thinking about the upcoming Presidential debates and have realized Mitt Romney has a problem. He’s a horrible debater. I’ve been looking over the videos and news articles after each primary debate and am left with the same conclusion: Mitt Romney has very few shining moments. And even if you remove his gaffes (10,000.00 bet, self-deportation) he was sorta just there, blending into the background, trying not to say too much and avoiding specifics on everything. Basically, his strategy was to simply make it through the night.
