The Political Event Calendar for the Week

Filed in Delaware by on July 31, 2012

On Wednesday, August 1, 2012, we have State Representative John Kowalko announcing his reelection bid at the Newark Senior Center, 200 White Chapel Drive in Newark. It starts at 11 a.m.

“I feel that my accomplishments as a lawmaker over the past six years have brought some relief to my constituents and all Delawareans especially in the matter of foreclosure mediation and economic recovery but there is much more to be done. I’m running for re-election fully aware that the biggest threat to the economic recovery in Delaware and to the welfare of my constituency and all Delawareans is complacency. […] As an elected representative of the people I will not permit myself or my fellow political leaders to lose sight of the ultimate goal which is a successful economic recovery, job creation, and ensuring the safety and welfare of all Delaware families. We must aid business growth opportunities, create new well-paying jobs to replace those that were lost and guarantee a healthy and safe environment for future
generations.

“When I return to Dover I intend to focus my attention and energy on meeting the challenge of affordable health care access for all Delawareans and will be re-introducing legislation establishing a Single-Payer Health Care system that will relieve the ever burgeoning burden of health insurance costs for Delaware families and businesses.”

I know it is tough to attend if you’ve got work, but if you can make it, stop by and give John your support.

Later Wednesday night at 7 pm we have the monthly meeting of the Progressive Democrats for Delaware at the Delaware Democratic Party HQ’s, 19 E. Commons Blvd, in New Castle. Kathleen MacRae, the Executive Director of the ACLU of Delaware, will be speaking about efforts to repeal the death penalty in Delaware; and Erik Raser-Schramm, the director of the 2012 Coordinated Campaign, will speak on their efforts in the upcoming election.

On Thursday, August 2 at Timothy’s of Newark from 7 pm to 10 pm, there will be a fundraiser for Democrat Paul Baumbach for his race to succeed Terry Schooley in the 23rd RD. Here is a like to the Facebook site for the event.

Be sure to check out the Democratic Party’s full listing of events this week, which include another fundraiser for Mr. Baumbach as well as Pete Schwartzkopf’s reelection announcement event.
