Wednesday Open Thread [7.18.12]

Two more days til the weekend, but if you are anything like me you are still working overtime to escape this heinous weather.

There’s a massive and serious drought in the Midwest — where crops of corn and soy are suffering. That means higher prices for food (and maybe gas) shortly. Even in Delaware, the field corn corp is under great stress due to lack of rain.

And look — the Boy Scouts have decided to continue to bay gays from their ranks. Despicable. The sooner they get that bigotry is not a leadership quality (and certainly not one to pass on to kids!), the better.

Nelson Mandela is 94 years old today! Happy Birthday, Mr. Mandela and hope you have very many more.

Quite.

I was just thinking that right now would be the ideal time to investigate Mitt’s ties to Europe so when it fails, and collapses which could happen in October, Obama has the facts to point out that Mitt Romney’s vision is exactly why the collapse occurred.

He wants to build the US upon the European model.

Too much trust in banks, hedge funds, and on raking huge profits off the unfortunate.

The whole outcome would have matriculated so differently, if when they made those huge profits, we had taxed them fairly, and returned a tiny portion of that money back into the actual economy.

“And look — the Boy Scouts have decided to continue to bay gays from their ranks.”

I find this ironic. Have you ever been to a boy scout function? So gay.

Cassandra, This excellent kos diary goes into how Sununu got his remarks scripted by Rush Limbaugh. There are also some excellent embedded videos of Charles Blow speaking on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show.

  4. Jason330 says:

Then Rush was gives himself high fives for how well Sununu mouthed his words.

Sununu, in every one of his TV appearances, takes no prisoners. So I think Sununu has been appointed with the task of going out and performing the duties that I am suggesting need to happen. ‘Cause that’s it: “[I]n Hawaii smoking something.” He’s doing it. Never had a paycheck, Chicago politics…

Sununu is Rush Limbaugh’s bitch. I wish all washed up conservative losers had to endure a similar fate.

Charles Blow has it exactly right. It is the “otherness” that is driving them batshit crazy, and their leadership is working that for all it is worth. There have been a few articles today talking about how the Rmoney campaign is likely to take up the ugliest stuff as their newest campaign strategy.

Looks like some pretty heavy thunderstorms bearing down on most of Delaware and South Jersey. Go close the car windows and bring in loose objects from the yard pretty soon.

You’re not the boss of me.

There’ll be no room for you on my ark.

I’m still heating the pool. Right now its a comfy 88*

  10. Three cheers for the Wilmington City Committee unanimous endorsement of KWS.

I have been hearing that opponent campaigns have been sending so much FOIA asks – to try (and have failed) to strike some CRI-like gold – that certain parties couldn’t afford to actually collect it. Hint, you can still go down to the Dover and have a look for free – that way it won’t have been a total waste of tax payer money.

I am thinking of FOIA’ing all of the FOIA’s the IC has received from 2012 campaigns and see what comes up.

  11. Idealist says:

Nancy, didn’t you call KWS an “outsider” when the state party didn’t endorse her?

  12. MJ says:

    More KWS – http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20120719/NEWS02/307190042/Stewart-takes-some-state-lawmakers-names-vain?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Home.

The funniest statement is from Dennis P. Williams – “I think she’s done the best that she can do and I think she deserves a second term.” Guess he had extremely low expectations for her.

  13. SussexWatcher says:

I focused on some different lines:

Ennis said he had not been able to reach campaign workers to ask that his name be removed.

“I have called her headquarters but I can’t get an answer there.”

Stewart did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

Hey, Nancy and JoeC, can’t your gal pick up the phone?

  14. heragain says:

Actually, SussexWatcher, I sent an email to her dotgov address & it was bounced back. So, apparently, no one is answering the phone ANYWHERE.

On the other hand, no one at Carney’s campaign office ever answers me, either. Maybe Delaware is too self-absorbed, in general, to have communication it doesn’t initiate.

  15. heragain says:

    Yup.
