Romney campaign now viewed as incompetent

Filed in National by on July 18, 2012

This is a big win for team Obama. the fallout from Romney’s Bain/tax secrecy disasters isn’t coming in the form of moving impossible to move partisans and decided voters, it is coming in the form of a general consensus that Romney is running a poor campaign.

This is an important development because it will shade the horse race narrative over the next few months. Reporters and editors will pick up on anecdotes that support the narrative that Team Romney sucks, and stories will turn in that direction. Every Romney decision will be dissected to discern the level of panic that went into it. The net/net is that the squishy middle that votes on their gut feeling rather than any understanding of policy will flee Romney who they will regard as a loser, and be drawn closer to Obama who they will regard as a winner.

One caveat, or course, is that in a post citizens united world Romney has a remedy for the situation in the form of BAZILLION dollars worth of negative ads at the ready. He has already shown a willingness to sign on an any lie that he feels could move the needle, so the super pacs ads will be extremely toxic.

I can see why it’s tough for Mitt to release his returns even if he wanted to. Republicans never liked him anyway, and in fact it was a Republican (Newt) who started the Bain ball rolling. So what would make Mitt think Republican leaders would have his back if he releases the returns?

  2. Jason330 says:

Apparently he is making calls to Republicans asking them to lay off the calls for the returns because his campaign would be dead in the water once devious Democrats started making mountains out of mole hills.

    That tells you something.

  3. Truth Teller says:

His returns will show besides other things that he made money off of the disposable of dead babies. How do you like that you Right to lifers if you truly believe than how could you support a man who is so engaged in making money that he doesn’t care about the source

  4. Jason330 says:

Stericycle is one of the big reasons Mitt is trying to claim that he didn’t have anything to do with Bain after 1999.

In the end, if he profited from it, what’s the difference. It is damaging.

  5. Liberal Elite says:

It’s got to be over for Mitt. I don’t see how this is anything but fatal to his campaign.

What he’s really squandered is whatever little trust he still had with the American people.

The new line of attack from Rmoney camp will be using the word “foreign” alot and how un-American Obama is.

Its a dog whistle for his base, but not for the rest of the country.

The only thing Rmoney can do to change this story line is to name his VP pick.

Of course, the first question to the VP pick will be, how many tax returns did you have to give to the Rmoney VP selection cmte.?

And McCains kick in the crotch this week was awesome. “yeah we considered Rmoney, but in the end we felt Palin was a better pick.” ZING.
