Earth to Pires…Earth Calling Alex Pires

Filed in National by on July 17, 2012

How can an Indy candidate for Senate come out of the blocks and force me to agree with Tom Carper minutes into a campaign?

Alex Pires, who filed Monday to challenge U.S. Sen. Tom Carper as an Independent Party candidate, quickly opened a surprising new line of attack against the Democratic incumbent, questioning Carper’s health.

Pires suggested that Carper is concealing a serious illness, and called Carper’s health the “most important issue” in the race. He called on Carper to release the results of his most recent physical.

“Is Carper competent to go another six years, physically and mentally?” said Pires, a successful lawyer and Dewey Beach business owner. “If he won’t release his physical, obviously he’s not. I think the vast majority of people who watch him at all know he’s not well.”

Carper’s campaign is correct to call Pires’ attacks “unfounded and outrageous.” Carper has the best health-care plan on the planet. The US senate is the Branson Missouri of our tripartite government. It is built to cater to old white people. Doddering cogders like Carper have lasted for decades in the Oxygen rich halls of the Senate. Strom Thurmond was 160 years old when he quit.

On top of all that, there is a lot of legitimate shit to go after when it comes to Tom Carpers record. Look into that for christsake.

  1. MJ says:

Pires is an ass, plain and simple. He’s been foaming at the mouth since he first announced that he was going to run. He needs to be medicated and he needs his rabies shot. Here’s a question for Pires – why are you telling people to vote for Wade?

  2. jason330 says:

If anyone was wondering if Carper was going to be forced to break a sweat this year, they can stop wondering.

  3. While Carper may or may not be competent to go for another six years (and there is no evidence to demonstrate that he isn’t), Pires, by this ridiculous line of attack, has demonstrated that he’s not competent to serve.

So, the real single most important question about Pires’ campaign, (is he competent?) has been asked and answered.

Oh, and if for some reason Carper couldn’t fill out his term? Either Jack Markell or Matt Denn would name the replacement. I’m jiggy wid dat.

  4. John Young says:

There’s Oxygen in the Senate? Where?

  5. cassandra m says:

I’m with you, Jason — especially since Carper is easily one of the most actively visible politicians in the state. It is hard to make a bad health charge against someone who is walking everyplace and still runs the occasional 5K. Carper as a real record that is vulnerable, but I guess Pires is playing to his Fox News friends, huh?

  6. MJ says:

Carper ran the Caesar Rodney half-marathon in March.

I heard that Pires slept with half of the Fox News team. I’ll present the evidence when I’m ready to release it.

  7. puck says:

Carper looks like he is on one of those restricted calorie diets that makes you live forever.

  8. jason330 says:

Pires might as well have accused Carper of being a member of the Babylonian Brotherhood.

  9. Geezer says:

“Carper looks like he is on one of those restricted calorie diets that makes you live forever.”

That’s because he’s been a distance runner for decades. That’s what makes this line of attack look insane.

  10. MJ says:

Pires filed as the IPoD candidate? Yeah, go ahead and associate yourself with Wolfgang von Bombast and the other Sheriff of Nuttingham fools. Pires is going to be an asterisk in this race. Hopefully he’ll piss away enough of his own money that he’ll put himself in the poorhouse, or at least leave himself a bit less wealthy.

  11. SussexWatcher says:

Carper should release his records, showing him perfectly healthy, and then challenge Pires to a race.

I was thinking about voting for him before this, but I’m not rewarding buffoonery.

  12. MJ says:

“What are we going to do in Delaware, wait until he falls off a stage or makes a statement somewhere that makes no sense. I’m not being mean, I’m just being straightforward. I think people are entitled to know who they’re dealing with.”

Um, Alex, you’ve already made numerous statements that make no sense. And I agree, we are entitled to know who we’re dealing with. So, Alex, what’s your game? Is this some sort of stunt to try and sell another TV series or make another stupid movie?

  13. Aoine says:

I have great dirt on pires. And was going to release the toxic crap if this
    Went badly for Carper

Looks like i can keep the vault closed- pity….
Its really really good dirt too

All verifiable by independant sources And enough to raise your hair
Not that i love carper mind you- he needs a good challenger
But that Pires is this dirty…….

  14. MJ says:

http://www.wgmd.com/?p=63510 – unanimous choice of IPoD. I guess that was Wolfgang and his three-legged dog, Skippy.

  15. nemski says:

Seriously, what the fuck? Is the News Journal now running stories that could be found in the comment section of political blogs?

Hmm . . . Alex Pires is an alien from outer space and eats little children for sustenance. I demand Pires provide all of his grocery store receipts for the last 12 years to prove that he does not subsist on a diet of young children.

  16. SussexAnon says:

Alex claimed when he first announced he would NOT be joining ANY party. Completely rebuffed the idea. Now he is considering the IPOD ballot?

He also claimed he would have over 12k signatures to get on the ballot. He submitted 9k.

Pires would be better to run for the President of the WWE. He sounds more like a wrestling promoter than a politician. He will make the constitutional fetishists seem sane at debates, if he gets that far.

  17. JTF says:

    @SussexAnon

Did he submit 9,000 signatures? I don’t think he did.

  18. MJ says:

He claims he submitted 9000 signatures, but how many of those were valid signatures? His employees were forced to solicit signatures at his bars and restaurants and I’ll wager that the majority of those were from drunken 20-somethings looking for a free beer.

  19. SussexWatcher says:

nemski: TNJ has been pursuing Carper illness rumors for at least two years. Your sainted Ginger Gibson was part of the hungry wolfpack. They now have a “reason” to ask.

  20. xstryker says:

Is Pires running to Carpers left or right? Because of the answer is “left”, he’ll have my vote no matter what kind of ridiculous shit he says. He ain’t gonna win, so I’d be quite happy to see him pressure Carper to be more accountable. I’ll likely be writing in “Captain America” in November, because at least he’s not a tool of the 1%.

  21. jason330 says:

I think that is the discouraging thing. Carper doesn’t have to worry about legitimate pressure, or even answering for his record now.

  22. puck says:

Well, we always said you’d have to be crazy to primary Carper.

  23. SussexAnon says:

WGMD is reporting 9k signatures were submitted to the Dept of Elections. Carpers people also said the 9k number. The DOE has not verified the signatures and I am sure there will be challenges to the signatures.

WGMD is also reporting that Pires accepted the unanamous endorsement of the Indy Party of DE, as a way to ensure he would be on the ballot. Pires was quoted in the article.

Its hard to know where Pires is running left, right or center. He is too busy screaming like a wrestler about how much Carper sucks to find out what Pires stands for.

  24. Geezer says:

What illness does he supposedly have?

  25. JTF says:

@SussexAnon – WGMD printed the Pires release verbatim. You can’t be unaffiliated AND a member of the independent party….

  26. chlorophil says:

Do you think exposing Pires’s rantings are tied to Dan Gaffney leaving WGMD?

  27. Haward jublowme says:

Could it be the reason why Tom 4 pensions Carper doesn’t do town Hall meetings is because he loses his train of thought in mid sentence? The phone in town meetings are getting old. What has he really done for Delaware since he voted with Bush 93% of the time? He was responsable for the insurance exchanges across state line insead of single payer or supporting Obamney Care. Caprer and Castle got 8.6 million for sand replenishment for Castle’s million dollar home while the people of Wilmington suffered from homicide, gangbangers,Jaskson street Girls & Boys club closed down and peoples settlement went bankrupt. We also lost GM and Chrysler on his watch. Now I will be supporting Andrew Groeff the green party candidate. Let Carper go back to West Virginia with his four Delaware pensions and free healthcare. Harris McDowell Carper’s bag boy is in deep do do (SEU).

  28. Jason330 says:

I agree that phone in town hall meetings are bullshit. He does them because he can. Ever since that crazy birther went off on Castle, Carper probably figures that the reward does not merit the risk.

  29. cassandra_m says:

Wonder if an Alex Pires candidacy is an elaborate sting operation to get this blog to actually take up Carper’s side for once.

  30. Andrew Groff says:

I was going to post some pithy comment, but, nah. Alex can blow himself up without any help. He does sound a lot like a Tea Bagger once you get past the Carper-dirt stuff. So Pires going iPOD kind of seals that assumption for me. I guess the company you keep…

I hope Tom does decide to get into some debates with me and Wade after his primary. I think the voters deserve to hear from all the candidates.

  31. Josh says:

I saw that in the paper today. When Pires runs the CR Half Marathon for 3 decades he can talk about SEN Carper’s physical fitness. fucking shitbag.

  32. Jim Westhoff says:

Great point, Josh. A few months ago, I was a volunteer at CR half marathon at the mile 10 mark, and when the senator trotted past me, he was healthy enough to say hi.

As for Pires, I hope he gets stomped for this. Someone should never make an allegation like that without backing it up without any facts.

  33. MJ says:

Pires tried to buy WGMD last year and was turned down cold.

  34. SussexAnon says:

I didn’t know that MJ. Perhaps he will start his own radio station.

Like he did when the liquor store deal fell through, he went and opened his own.

  35. Aoine says:

God he is GROSS! get a hair cut and take a bath- u got enough money

If I think that I can only imagine what the uptight WASP conservatives in Sussex think…..

Ugh – dont even think of shaking my hand either – yuck

  36. Keith Phillips says:

I think one of two things happened to Pires – he stayed waaaay too long in the sun (as evidenced by his goldy locks) or he found some really bad drugs somewhere (perhaps he found a bag of acid under a bush and didn’t realize that a dog had urinated on it). Seriously, though, he’s so stupid he must be an in-the-closet Douche Bagger.

  37. kavips says:

Hmmm, is it collective memory loss, or has everyone here forgotten about this guy….

  38. meatball says:

Was it Carper or Castle who once owned a piece of the Bottle & Cork?
