The Georgetown bin Laden

Filed in Delaware by on June 19, 2012

Vance Phillips’ attorney, Joe Hurley:

Last week, Councilman Vance Phillips was the victim of a bin Laden attack. The terminology which will always live in American ignomy, refers to a spineless coward who sits in the darkness, and deliberately, and gleefully, inflicts pain on innocents in order to accomplish his deranged agenda. Pakistan had its bin Laden. Sussex County has one as well.

Not content to attempt to assassination of the character of Vance Phillips, Georgetown bin Laden, targeted innocent members of the General Assembly with public attacks launched from the darkness, of course, that would imperil their political careers. Finally, and in what may be described as perhaps the most steroidal act of revulsion, Georgetown bin Laden, maliciously, identified a young lady as a participant in criminal activity alleged by him.

Fortunately the United States of America had Navy Seals as its disposal to dispatch the Pakistani spineless excuse for humanity to kingdom come. Unfortunately, Vance Phillips does nto have that luxury.

All that Vance Phillips can do, and now does, is to challenge Georgetown bin Laden to come out of his nest n the “darkness”, and separate himself from other cowards of his ilk, if there are any, and stand in the light of day and prepare to “bring it on”. Vance will be waiting.
Georgetown bin Laden can present his evidence and Vance will present his. One of them will stand acquitted. If it is Vance, and it will be, as the Jihadist rat shrinks back into his hole, he will become the target and, more specifically, as he slinks along the laser will focus on him and his assets should there be any and justice will be done.

    Weird response.

  3. socialistic ben says:

yeah, because exposing him for being a creep (correct usage) is the exact same thing as killing 3000 men women and children in 4 hours, poisoning thousands more, starting 2 wars that have killed 6000 us service members, tens of thousands of Iraqi and Afgani civilians…. you get my point. What an ass hole (hurley)
screw this guy, i hope they all end up in prison.

  4. jason330 says:

Instead of trying to smoke out the anon letter writer, as I reread this – I think Hurley might be trying to drive him underground.

It is just so crazy and over the top.

  5. Delaware Dem says:

“If you (allegedly) did it, get Joe Hurley.” Philadelphia Magazine.

  6. mediawatch says:

Any bets on when/whether the bar association or one of those lawyers’ disciplinary committees goes after Hurley for “conduct unbecoming…”?

  7. puck says:

Frank Knotts provides some more scraps of information:

The letter states that there were witnesses to inappropriate touching and behaviour between Mr. Phillips and the girl at the Apple Scrapple Festival in Bridgeville in 2010.

The letter also states that when Mr. Phillips’ wife discovered the relationship she immediately “kicked” Mr. Phillips out of their house.

Now I know what people around the world are thinking when they read this: “Delaware has an Apple Scrapple Festival?”

  8. jason330 says:

Why hasn’t DelawarePolitics posted the full letter?

  9. puck says:

If this happened at the festival, somebody probably has pictures. They may not even know they have them.

  10. Another Mike says:

As tasteless as it is comparing the deaths of 3000 people to an accusation of failing to keep one’s trousers zippered, I doubt Joe Hurley gives a shit about any disciplinary committee. It is interesting that Phillips has retained Delaware’s pre-eminent defense attorney.

  11. SussexAnon says:

I didn’t see a denail in that letter. Or did I miss it?

  12. socialistic ben says:

Why do i feel like we’re going to be focusing on this so hard we wont notice the river getting dredged?

  13. Will M says:

Because that’s what you’re “supposed” to do.

  14. V says:

ugh. OF COURSE it was Apple Scrapple. Nothing says illicit underage romance more than a pile of pig faces.

    Can you say “Smoke Screen”?

Did this baseless story come out just to cover-up the Kevin Wade, GOP Chair & GOP Insurance Commissioner candidates’ allegations?

    Reminder:

    1. Informed Citizen
“If you want to see what happens when an unqualified candidate “succeeds” in that way, look at the Delaware Insurance Commissioner’s office.”
Dave Jones and Ben Mobley are under review by the Attorney Generals office for attempting to bribe Jim Van Houten into dropping out of the race for Insurance Commissioner.
Word has it that Van Houten was offered the position of, Director of Veterans Affairs, if he dropped out of the race. I also know that there is some very damning evidence that this is true.

    2. Informed Citizen
Word has it that the Director of Special Investigations for Delaware’s Department of Justice, Thomas R. Penoza has been investigating these allegations since February. What’s happening in Ben Mobley’s campaign for Delaware’s Insurance Commissioner?

I heard good ol’ Kevin Wade might be involved.
    GOP “Dirty Tricks” lol

  16. Jason330 says:

What he means is Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes… The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!

  17. mediawatch says:

    GOPMole:
So the AG’s office is investigating both the GOP insurance commissioner race and the GOP Senate candidate … and you’re suggesting that he might be tempted to put a higher priority on the IC race than the Senate candidate?
If you see the logic here, please fill us in.
Looks more like stupid tricks than dirty tricks to me.

  18. Jason330 says:

You were able to make something out of that?

  19. V says:

hahaha Jason330 wins for the day. clearly the informed citizen is Zuul.

  20. mediawatch says:

Well, the business about offering someone the director of veterans affairs job is pretty preposterous … since the Vets’ Commission is in the State Dept. Jeff Bullock isn’t about to sack the incumbent in favor of a Rethug ne’er-do-well.
I enjoy rumors just as much as the next guy, but they’ve got to contain at least a shred of truth.

  21. heragain says:

    Another vote for Zuul.

Sometimes I think to myself, “Is The Onion really writing all the news now, or just most of it?”

That Hurley letter makes me wish I’d written an anon blackmailey letter myself. Makes me feel like being an ordinary sane citizen isn’t exciting enough.

  22. ? says:

    Bizarre

  23. Truth Teller says:

Do you think that Jeff (AKA BARNY FIFE) will admit to writing or having knowledge of who wrote the letter?

  24. Dave says:

Well the fact that the letter was sent to the GA rather than the DSP evidences that it was intended to cause political harm rather than reporting an alleged crime. Which means it originated directly or by proxy from the Christopher and supporters camp (Bodenweiser and Ayotte). So regardless of whether he or they admit to it, it is pretty obvious.

  25. Geezer says:

“Word has it that Van Houten was offered the position of, Director of Veterans Affairs, if he dropped out of the race.”

I’m shocked, shocked! What kind of political naif would think this is actionable by law enforcement? Please show me the law that makes this illegal. For Christ’s sake, how do you think half of lower Delaware found jobs for its idiot wives, nephews and brothers-in-law?

  26. anon says:

Squealing on Vance Phillips same as attacking the Twin Towers? That doesn’t do justice to the importance of this. It’s more like the crucifixion. The last temptation of Vance. This is epic. Way beyond bin Laden and 9/11. And don’t forget the watermelon connection. A person who like melons that much is capable of anything.

  27. socialistic ben says:

Guys, guys…. can we AT LEAST agree that what happened to Vance Christ is 100xs worse than the Holocaust? i mean, THEY SENT A LETTER!!!!!! It’s funny how the bigger scuz-buckets in this whole thing change every day. everyone is trying to out-douche each other.

  28. Loves Sussex says:

Amazing ! I hope to God ( and not Vance ) that the voters of Sussex are taking notice of all of this! I have never seen anything like this in the 50 years I have lived here.

  29. Jason330 says:

Welcome “Loves Sussex”. I was so expecting you to be a sock puppet, and was pleasantly surprised to see that you are an actual unique visitor.

  30. puck says:

On the bright side, after reading Hurley’s letter the #3 guy in al-Quaeda laughed himself to death.

  31. thenewphil says:

One thing I haven’t seen anyone address: Why is it the “Georgetown” BinLaden?

The letter had a Bridgeville postmark, was delivered to Leg. Hall in Dover, and accused Vance Phillips, who lives in Laurel.

  32. SussexWatcher says:

I read that as accusing Bodie, who’s the most intelligent and literate of the trio. Neither Ayotte not Christopher could personally have written that letter.

  33. jason330 says:

Who, other than the sender, knew that the letter had a Bridgeville postmark?

    BOM, BOM, BOMMMMM

  34. puck says:

    Any recipient of the letter?

  35. jason330 says:

Can you let me have my ‘Murder She Wrote’ moment for two seconds? Is that too much to ask?

  36. socialistic ben says:

looks like you had it for 16 minutes… that’s longer than $arah Palin was relevant.
Also, I’ve decided that Hurley is still wrong… what happened to Phillips is more devastating than the extinction on the Dinosaurs. comparing it to a small paltry think like 9-11 is, in itself worse than the Armenian genocide.

  37. Allowing that my brother is the most intelligent and literate of the trio really doesn’t offer much does it SussexWatcher? Isn’t that like picking one of the three stooges as the most intelligent and literate of the three? But I don’t want to insult the three stooges by comparing …
Y’all have a great day and weekend up there in DE!!

  38. puck says:

Have you guys considered doing a reality TV show? Or even on radio – we can’t listen to Car Talk reruns forever. “Don’t campaign like my brother!”

  39. Dave says:

    @thenewphil

It’s a fairly easy matter to drive from Georgetown to Bridgeville and drop a letter off to be mailed. Regardless, the timing and the recepients clearly evidence the letter as a response to the nearly concluded battle between the Sussex County Council and the sheriff. Whether the letter was written and sent by a proxy or one of the principles, it has the markings of someone(s) who were the most vocal and visible opponents of Phillips as the leader of the SC Council and supporters of the sheriffs ambitions to be like Mack. The sheriff is motivated by revenge. Don Ayotte and Eric Bodenweiser are both motivated by political ambitions.

This letter was not a concerned citizen doing their civic duty in reporting a possible crime else the letter would have been sent to the DSP. It is what it is, a case of vengeance and ambition. Pointing out that the letter came from Bridgeville (which also demonstrates some inside knowledge) is as obvious as sending a letter to the GA instead of the DSP. When it looks like a duck…

  40. marge says:

Of course someone can drive to Bridgeville to send a letter, but unless you know who sent it, how can you surmise that that is what happened? Also, injecting the Sussex Sheriff into the situation is something that WE projected onto the situation. I haven’t heard that the letter mentions the Sheriff issue at all. We can guess about who sent the letter, but for Hurley to call the writer the Georgetown BinLaden, tell me he must have some real idea of who did it. Or not.

  41. Dave says:

I didn’t surmise that’s what happened. I essentially pointed out the fact that mailing something from Bridgeville does not mean the mailer resides in Bridgeville. So mailing something from Bridgeville probably would exclude someone in Wilmington but certainly could include anyone residing in Sussex County.

The letter does not need to mention the sheriff or the issue. One merely has to connect the dots, that the letter was sent to a political body and not law enforcement, more than a year after the alleged situation. So it becomes pretty clear it was withheld information that someone decided to now bring to light. One then has only to understand who would have reason to damage Phillips, which leads one to those who have been in recent opposition to Phillips. Simple matter of connecting dots. Note, I did not say one of those folks did it directly, but they all have their proxies available.

  42. marge says:

You’re not usually this dense, Dave.

I don’t really care who YOU think sent the letter. I’m more interested in the fact that Vance’s laywer seems to think it was someone from Georgetown. The question is: Does Hurley know who sent the letter or is he only making educated guesses? Otherwise, why call the letter writer the “Georgetown” Bin Laden?

  43. Dave says:

Unless Hurley has direct knowledge (and I seriously doubt that whoever wrote it knocked on Hurley’s door and outed him/her self), I surmise that he is making an educated guess as we all have.

The information in the letter sounds too damaging for Phillips to have done it himself. So it’s not a great leap for any and all to connect the dots in the same manner (which most have done). When everyone notices the sun rising in the east, it’s a fairly safe bet that the sun rises in the east.

And I think you are taking the word “Georgetown” much too literally

  44. Geezer says:

Marge: Georgetown is the Sussex County seat. In this context, “Georgetown” is being used to represent “Sussex.”
