…and someone who thinks it is OK to raid the coffers of those who have “made it” to subsidize those who have not and never will.

  2. Geezer says:

Count on a conservative to talk about what he worships and values above everything else — money, and the rich people who might drop a little of it where he can find it.

  3. Von Cracker says:

Walt. When all the shit comes tumbling down upon you, I truly hope you’re all alone, crying.

The way it should be for someone of your character.

I am pretty sure that someone I grew up with (no one here) is a spammer. He writes copy to send people to sketch websites and posts it under various assumed handles.

He studied to be a journalist. I find this really, really sad. 🙁

  5. Jason330 says:

Very true Geezer. Nearly all the Republican comments I read these days are a flat out tribute to the unshakable gullibility of middle class Republicans.

  6. walt says:

Nobody has to drop alms for me, Geezer. I get out there every day and “make it”.

I would put it differently: Capitalism creates wealth, but it also creates poverty. It creates winners and losers, and the winners win at the expense of the losers. Consequently the “losers” are due some compensation — which also serves to keep the system going and stave off revolution. Of course, I would not call that belief liberal as much as socialist. It’s time we brought it back — both the term and the agenda.

    It won’t matter.

Teahadi lobbyist Rich Collins is challenging John Atkins. There, I fixed it for you.

It’s WaWa, not WaWas, which I’m certain is making the WaWa branding folks cringe. And I’m tired of the press talking about RMoney on a bus tour. His staff and his bus are on a bus tour. Rmoney is flying to where he goes.

    Huh?

Capitalism is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of the means of production and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.

So if someone produces goods but no one buys those goods, they are due compensation? For what? Business decisions sometimes result in negative outcomes for the enterprise that made those decisions. Are you suggesting there should be some form of no fault capitalism, where there are no cosequences for bad decisions?

No one is due compensation for a failure in the marketplace. Perhaps what you mean is that those responsible for success in the market deserve some measure of the profits/rewards that accrue from that production. But certainly you cannot mean that if one invests time, labor, capital that one deserves compensation if there is no return on their investment. If that’s the case, I think I am going to start a business and do nothing to make it viable, because I’ll be compensated!

Before he visits a 7-Eleven, Dunkin’ Donuts or Dairy Queen, it might be a good idea for Mitt to call Joe Biden and ask him what to expect.

  14. cassandra_m says:

This is very cool: an app that will tell you if you are buying a Koch Brothers product/. Darcy Burner created the mock interface in the picture and she is looking for a developer to make it real.

  15. Valentine says:

@Dave – No that is not what I meant. I meant that the workers who actually produce the goods or deliver the services are who enables the private owner to make profits which he pockets. Those who contributed to his success are also due a decent standard of living. I am not concerned about entrepreneurs making bad business decisions.

I also mean that the entire system requires, for example, a certain level of unemployment, around 4%. Those 4% cannot have jobs if the system is to function properly. Consequently, they should also have a decent standard of living.

Capitalism is social production and private accumulation.

  16. puck says:

an app that will tell you if you are buying a Koch Brothers product

“Amazing! You just push the button, and it tells you if you are buying a product from Koch’s?”

    — Mitt Rmoney

  17. Will M says:

How does the system require 4% unemployment? I’m unfamiliar with the logic of that requirement. Please forgive my ignorance.

  18. Valentine says:

Full employment creates inflation, which devalues money. People with assets don’t want that obviously. So there has to be unemployment to keep things in balance. I believe most economists say 4 percent works.

  19. Valentine says:

    Full employment creates inflation.

  20. Dana Garrett says:

I think JFK’s notion needs to be fleshed out more. It’s insufficient to say that a liberal “cares” about the needy. Even some Republicans and Libertarians claim to subjectively care. The difference is that a liberal recognizes the necessity to positively marshall the forces and capabilities of government and economic and social policy to redress the needs generated by a nation’s economy. That makes “care” more than lip service.
