Filed in Delaware by on May 31, 2012

What, no spamming by KWS supporters and McDowell minions? In a non scientific non random poll of our readers, Mitch Crane is vanquishing the incumbent insurance commissioner 66% to 25%. And it would only a few people are being fooled by the candidacies of Dennis Spivack and Paul Gallagher, much to Harris McDowell’s chagrin, no doubt.

If the election were held today, who are you voting for in the Democratic Primary for Insurance Commissioner?

Mitch Crane — 107 — 66%
Karen Weldin Stewart — 41 — 25%
Dennis Spivack — 7 — 4%
Paul Gallagher — 6 — 4%

  1. Idealist says:

Now we need to get Democratic voters as engaged and knowledgable about this race as the DL community.

  2. Jason330 says:

    Good luck with that.

  3. Josh says:

Well that is likely the amount he is endorsed by the party the the convention before the JJ next week. Does anyone remember KWS ill advised run against Democratic National Committeewoman Karen Valentine, in MAY 2005 at the Delaware Democratic Party Convention? I do. Mitch has the backing of the Party I expect nothing less than an endorsement at the convention.

  4. Idealist says:

The lone Spivack supporter raising expectations for the endorsement. Smart move.

  5. JTF says:

Spivack is going to spoil this race. KWS wins by ehhhh 7%.

  6. Idealist says:

Yes, because the Spivack campaign has been picking up a ton of support….

  7. anon says:

The party will endorse Crane…the lady will win the primary in a walk. It’s over.

  8. Geezer says:

Define “walk.” I agree the lady probably will win, but I seriously doubt in a walk, especially if you’re right about the endorsement. Remember, last primary she faced a guy who might as well have been named Adolf Hitler, and she was nothing but a vaguely familiar name. Now every state worker on BC/BS has a reason to despise her. Ain’t gonna be no walk.

  9. anon says:

She will win by 9. This race isn’t close enough to continue wasting time on.

  10. MJ says:

Then anon, we expect you won’t be wasting our time by coming on here all of the time and shilling for KWS.

  11. Will McVay says:

I know very little about the Democrats contesting this primary. I like Ben Mobley on the GOP side, all things being equal (van Houten is a clown), but I don’t know anything about the Dems. Can someone make a case for Crane > Mobley for me? Crane seems to obviously be a better choice than Weldin-Stewart or any of the others, from what I’ve seen, but I really don’t understand the DelDems as well as I do the DEGOP at this point. It’s a deficiency I hoped to address this election cycle, but the DEGOP screwed that up, as they do just about everything they touch…

That woman is no lady. She’s doing some more bragging in a popular insurance industry publication about things she had nothing to do with: http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/east/2012/05/30/249288.htm

Check out the comments, too. Interesting. People out there seem to be more knowledgeable about her than you give them credit for.

  13. SussexWatcher says:

I’m hardly a KWS supporter, but I feel the need to point out george’s utter stupidity and twisting of the facts.

That “insurance industry publication” simply lightly rewrote a press release the IC’s office put out recently. You can compare the original – http://news.delaware.gov/2012/05/23/insurance-department-recovers-1-3-million-for-policyholders-in-1st-quarter-of-2012 – with the link george provided. I’ll let you judge whether that’s “bragging,” but she certainly didn’t go out of her way to get the press coverage. The journal just did some quick editing; several sentences are verbatim.

As to the comments, there are precisely three of them, two under the same name, and they sound very similar to the type of empty shit that you and your pals have been peddling here for the last four years, george. As always, if you have evidence of corruption, post it here or turn it over to the AG’s office. The crap about how she’s dumb as a brick and can’t write a sentence and is old and ugly now just doesn’t help your cause in the least.

  14. JTF says:

Let me clarify the earlier comment, the only reason I think Spivack helps spoil is that he has (I’d assume) high name rec just given his past runs. KWS obviously has that too, plus she’s a woman and there will be people – rightly or wrongly, that if they don’t know anything about the candidates, will just vote for the female candidate.

I’m voting for Crane and the endorsement of the party will help. I don’t think KWS “walks” with it at all, but it’s going to take some work to beat her and whoever wins I don’t suspect anyone will “Walk” with it.

  15. Geezer says:

Spivack ran once, and outside of his family and political junkies, nobody knows his name. But you’re right about the female voting thing. If McDowell were behind him, you’d see another woman running in this primary just to split the know-nothing-but-I’m-voting-for-a-woman vote.

  16. george says:

@ SussexWatcher: Your disclaimer that you’re “hardly a KWS supporter” is worthless given the rest of what you wrote. You’re either one of her bought and paid for groupies or just the usual Democrat whitewasher who’d have torn a Republican to shreds on much less than what’s rightfully being said about KWS. That her Captives outfit has always run in the red is well established, as is the fact that it’s because of her overpaid no-show cronies. The fact that she’s uneducated, has never held a professional job in her life, and is dumb as a bag of hammers which is obvious as soon as she goes off script is just as well known.

You must not read the Insurance Journal regularly or you’d know that three comments is actually a lot for articles in that publication. That they were posted in the first place is proof that more people than just the DL population have her number and know her for the useless self-serving opportunist she is who got where she is only by lying about her background and making connections with shady characters like Harris McDowell, whose lack of integrity isn’t even open to discussion.

So you might as well save your breath. It’s way too late to try to rehabilitate her. She will lose to one of her opponents big time. Regarding your accusation that I have a “cause”, the only thing I’m after is to help expose KWS for the fraud she is and to hope that she’s defeated in November so she can’t run the DOI into the ground any further than she already has.

  17. SussexWatcher says:

    George,

Look, buddy, I’m sorry KWS wouldn’t go out with you in 8th grade, or took your parking place when you two worked together, or whatever the connection between you is. But dude, you are seriously obsessed and unhinged about her. Either back up your allegations of fraud and corruption with solid proof, or get some psychiatric help.

And no, I’m not a regular reader of insurance journals. Nor do I think that a “if you’re not Really against her, you must be with her” approach works for your cause. I happened to vote for Brady last time around.

So in conclusion, go fuck yourself.

  18. Will McVay says:

You guys are incredibly entertaining, I just want to thank you for that.

  19. SussexWatcher says:

Thanks, Will. Who’d you guys corral into running this year?

  20. anon2 says:

Mitch Crane is far and away the best candidate in the IC race. I only hope that I will get to vote for him since I’m not a registered D.

  21. george says:

SussexWatcher, your attacks are the usual personal smears you people resort to when you can’t argue on the merits. If KWS didn’t have a D behind her name, she’d be toast by now and you know it.

  22. Will McVay says:

Few different people, SW. I’d keep an eye on Scott Gesty, John Machurek, and Ron Fitzgerald especially.
    http://www.lpdelconvention.com/home/candidates

  23. SussexWatcher says:

George: You are the undoubted expert in personal smears, so I concede. Now go fuck yourself.

  24. Will McVay says:

    *slow clap*

    phenomenal stuff.

  25. Josh says:

On the generic woman vote I will reference a primary KWS lost and one where Paul Clark beat Penrose Hollins and Dianne Kemski…. Dianne Kempski is the line on the generic women’s vote if you ask me.

  26. Geezer says:

Josh: IIRC, Dianne Kempski had earned her only public notice before that race by refusing to stop cashing her paychecks after her row office was abolished. That’s hardly a clean petri dish you’re using there.

  27. Geezer says:

George: The National Hardware Sellers Association called. They want you to stop bad-mouthing hammers.

  28. SussexWatcher says:

“… the only thing I’m after is to help expose KWS for the fraud she is …”

And you’re doing such a phenomenal job! Posting anonymous comments on blogs is just *so* brave and courageous.

  29. george says:

Thanks for passing that on, Geezer. The rest of the hammers will be safe after November when this one gets shit-canned.
