Tracking Poll Results — Markell Leads

Filed in Delaware by on May 29, 2012

Despite the two concerted attempts by spammers to rig the results. The first attempt occurred sometime Friday, when “Others” somehow garned 132 votes. Is this the unseen hand of internet troll Doug Beatty? Perhaps. Or perhaps it was the Libertarians. Steve Newton, who is running for Governor on the L ticket?

The second attempt happened yesterday and Sunday, when some teabaggers woke up and try to place Cragg in contention.

If the election were held today, who are you voting for in the Governor’s Race?
Governor Jack Markell (D) — 176 — 38%
Other — 126 — 27%
Businessman Jeff Cragg (R) — 123 27%
Undecided — 34 — 7% of all votes

Total Votes: 459. Started: May 24, 2012

Before the spamming began, Markell was leading by his usual 70%-30% margin. So nice try spammers.

Now I will try to find a better poll program.

On the bright side, these polls are being freeped because DelawareLiberal is THE source for political news and opinion in Delaware.

  2. SussexWatcher says:

  3. Delaware Dem says:

SW, my apologies, I was asking Steve who is running, not saying that Steve is running. It is a confusing sentence, now that I look at it.

    Thanks for the info though.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

Wait a minute, how can Jess McVay run for Governor and for the Senate? Is that allowed? Same thing for Margie Waite McKeown.

It is one thing for VP Biden to do it with respect to the federal offices (running for Senate and VP at the same time), but can candidates do it for state offices?

  5. SussexWatcher says:

It doesn’t matter. Just another McVay. He’ll get 116 votes, and the Libertarians will further sink into irrelevance.

  6. SussexWatcher says:

    Yes, it’s allowed. See:

    http://heinonline.org/HOL/LandingPage?collection=sag&handle=hein.sag/sagde0019&div=1&id=&page=

That’s only the first page of an 1980 AG’s opinion, so it doesn’t give the reasoning, but it does give the answer. It was requested by Al O. Plant, so who knows what shenanigans that sleazebag was trying to pull. At least the Liberts are just shoring up their own wobbly bench.

  7. Will McVay says:

We’re preparing for the potential need to spoil Jeff Cragg, actually. Jesse’s real focus is the 16th SD. We know better than to squander good candidates on statewide offices.

116? Really? I beat that by more than double in my district alone last election.

Either way, I don’t rig online polls. I have better things to do. Glad you’re thinking of us though.

  8. Will McVay says:

Looks, from your poll results (if they are to be trusted) that we might be pretty well positioned to do that…

  9. Jason330 says:

    They aren’t, and you’re not.

  10. Will McVay says:

Ok. You’re probably right. We didn’t have those kind of numbers in ’10 statewide, but then we didn’t have as many local nominees then. Doesn’t really matter. The governor’s race isn’t a priority for us.

  11. Valentine says:

He is definitely right. Online polls have no validity.

  12. Jason330 says:

It would be nice to have a party comprised of actual libertarians. The embarrassed Republicans posing as Libertarians that we have now don’t seem to add much spice to the stew.

That said, it would also be nice to have a party comprised of actual Democrats. So, there is your comeback line, if you care to use it.

  13. Will McVay says:

I’m working on it. You’re all certainly right to say that we haven’t been doing so well with it lately, but this year is a big improvement over last election in terms of fielding candidates, and many of them are young enough that they’ve got a few more tries in them before they’re through.

I’ve been calling out the Republicans for the lack of substance to their libertarian “tendencies” for the last two years, so I definitely sympathize with you there. A lot of the Occupiers I’ve been speaking with agree with you 100% about the need for a party of Democrats as well.

I would enjoy talking to the Delaware Democratic Party about that, but with the DEGOP on our heels and no one among us as familiar with the terrain on that side of the aisle, it makes more sense for us to continue hounding Republicans for the time being.

  14. puck says:

What exactly is the Libertarian beef with Republicans these days?

  15. Will McVay says:

    Also, this:
    http://www.lpdelconvention.com/home/resolutions/resolution-condemning-the-2012-ndaa

The national convention passed one too, also unanimously.

  16. Steve Newton says:

DD just saw this (traveling) LOL I read the sentence as I was running for governor, too.

I think that the list above is outdated and should show two more candidates, but I will have to let you know when I get home.

But the LPD did endorse Andy Groff of the Greens for US Senate as well, which puts me in rare accord with jason, who suggested voting for him a couple months ago.

  17. SussexWatcher says:

    Steve,

That list is directly from the Delaware Libertarian Party website: http://de.lp.org/content/delaware-candidates-nominated-or-endorsed

  18. Will McVay says:

The post above cut off the bottom, but the list on the website is accurate.

  19. SussexWatcher says:

So it did – Sorry about that, Will.

  20. MJ says:

Gwendolyn Jones is running for another office? Hmm, she just had her head handed to her in the town council election in Milton. Any more losses and she’ll have to change her name to Mike Miller.

  21. SussexWatcher says:

She’s nice enough, but comes across as clueless.

  22. Will McVay says:

I’m glad there’s a libertarian available for people to vote for when the Republicans are at risk of nominating Urkel.
