The Day After

Filed in National by on May 10, 2012

While the newspapers, websites, and cable news channels are filled with chatter and some analysis about President Obama’s support of gay marriage, there is still a long way to go. Mitt Romney said that he doesn’t “favor civil unions if it’s identical to marriage, and I don’t favor marriage between people of the same gender.” Fox News says that Obama has declared war on marriage. Meanwhile in the House Armed Services committee they voted to ban same sex marriages on military bases. They even went so far to pass an amendment that would allow military personnel using their moral and religious beliefs to criticize others.

What a nailbiter that was waiting for Obama to “evolve”. What a brave man he is. “Courage” should be this administrations’ new slogan.

An its been a big nothing on the prediction markets. There was a small jump yesterday on that has since disappeared.

The best thing about this issue is that it pushes issues that really could hurt Obama to the back pages. As long as they’re fussing about this, Obama will be just fine.

What makes this whole conversation ludicrous is the fact that civil unions largely solve the legal issues without forcing everyone in the country to redefine marriage. The only reason this issue keeps raising its pink little head is because a bunch of activists want to force their beliefs on everyone else.

Uhhh. Sorry. No. Civil unions are also under attack by those same folks who don’t like gay marriage. Have you not been paying attention? Here’s a hint for you: It’s not really about marriage at all. It never was.

Yes! Finally something you get right… and they’re crazy religious activists.
