Stephen King: Tax Me, for F@%&’s Sake!

Filed in National by on May 1, 2012

I’ve been reading a lot of Stephen King this year, I guess I needed some fun reading. But his essay, Tax Me, for F@%&’s Sake!, is just fan-freaking-tastic. A must read.

Tough shit for you guys, because I’m not tired of talking about it. I’ve known rich people, and why not, since I’m one of them? The majority would rather douse their dicks with lighter fluid, strike a match, and dance around singing “Disco Inferno” than pay one more cent in taxes to Uncle Sugar.

[snip]

Here’s another crock of fresh bullshit delivered by the right wing of the Republican Party (which has become, so far as I can see, the only wing of the Republican Party): the richer rich people get, the more jobs they create. Really? I have a total payroll of about 60 people, most of them working for the two radio stations I own in Bangor, Maine. If I hit the movie jackpot—as I have, from time to time—and own a piece of a film that grosses $200 million, what am I going to do with it? Buy another radio station? I don’t think so, since I’m losing my shirt on the ones I own already. But suppose I did, and hired on an additional dozen folks. Good for them. Whoopee-ding for the rest of the economy.

Definitely well worth your time to read.

His books aren’t worth a read and neither is this semi-intelligible rant.

If a wealthy liberal elite wants to pay more taxes, well then…shut up and write a check, for f@%&’s sake!!!

Just don’t tell the rest of us, who are either wealthy or middle class and climbing to pay MORE than what is already a fair share.

Instead, how about we slash spending and reform entitlements.

  2. nemski says:

How about you read the article or go troll elsewhere?

  3. Liberal Elite says:

@QP “If a wealthy liberal elite wants to pay more taxes, well then…shut up and write a check”

But that doesn’t solve the problem he is addressing.

@QP “…to pay MORE than what is already a fair share.”

And this is where you are fundamentally wrong. The whole operation of the government is largely aimed at helping the wealthy. Who do you think these agencies primarily serve: DOJ, DOA(agriculture), DOE(energy), DOD,…. and the entire judiciary.

It’s the operation of the government during the Bush years that drove up the Gini index in the US. And that fact alone highlights our unfair tax policies.

@qp I’m guessing that the kind of people King is referring to is not you. Under anybody’s plan you would not pay more. Of course I am guessing. You could be in Kings income bracket for all I know.

I know under any plan I would not be paying more than I am now and my total income is not shabby in the least little bit. So unless, you are one of the ones who have money coming out of your whatever, you are not the “rest of us” that King is referring to. It is interesting that you identify with them, the Buffets, Gates, Kings, etc. Even so, you aren’t them.

I’m glad you posted this, nemski. I read it this morning & wanted to post it to the Tuesday Open Thread, but the Open Thread hadn’t been started at that time..

  6. anon40 says:

I suppose all literature is subjective, QP. However, King’s rant was very much intelligible and very much on point. He’s a rich guy who gets it.

I’m pretty sure you’re NOT a rich guy and I KNOW you don’t get it.

BTW, I love King’s writing, at least his works from the early ’70s-early ’90s. Good reading!

  7. Grin says:

He is rich because he sells books. He sells books because people like his stories and the way he writes. Count me among them. I savor every chapter.

  8. pandora says:

Stephen King is an amazing storyteller. I haven’t read one of his books in years. Hmm… just got a Kindle…

  9. anon40 is now Roland D. LeBay, in honor of QP’s disdain (perhaps ignorance?) of Stephen King’s work.

Google it, QP. Then do something you’ve probably NEVER done–read a book!

  10. Rustydils says:

You cant give the government more money. It is just like giving a teenager more allowance, all they do is waist more money. The gsa just spent about thirty thousand per person to send 30 government employees to a vegas convention. There is not one person who works for the government that we should spend thirty thousand dollars of tax payer money on to go to a convention

  11. Liberal Elite says:

@Rd “all they do is waist (sic) more money.”

That sounds more like a Tea Party activity.

  12. Jason330 says:

It took two whole weeks for the pony express to reach you?

  13. X Stryker says:

All rich people do is waste money. If money is going to be wasted, I’d rather see some portion of it go to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid than see it go to the latest knickknack from Sotheby’s.

  14. Dave says:

“All rich people do is waste money”

Well, that’s sometimes true but is not always true. The Bill Gates Foundation with Bill’s and Warren Buffett’s billions does a great deal of good work.

Additionally, most rich people earned their money (even if we might consider them overpaid) and deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labors. It is true that there are those who enjoy them to excess (as excess is defined by us) but many of them are philanthropists.

  15. nemski says:

    @ Dave, yeah, I don’t understand X Stryker’s comment either.

  16. X Stryker says:

It was intentional overstatement, to highlight the absurdity of QP’s comment (“all the government does is waste money”). I stand by the fact that I’m more interested in a sound social safety net than whether or not Kim Kardashian gets a new yacht every year, “deserving” or no.
