Soccer: Manchester City v. Manchester United Preview

Filed in Sports by on April 30, 2012

At 3 o’clock this afternoon, more than 650 million people will be watching a football match between the number one and number two teams in England. To put this in perspective, a little more than 100 million people watch the Super Bowl every year. Also, to help put this match between United and City in more perspective for you soccer-haters:

[Sportswriter] Wahl likened the match between No. 1 Manchester United and No. 2 Manchester City to the New York Jets and New York Giants playing in the Super Bowl, or perhaps the Iron Bowl, which pits cross-state rivals Auburn and Alabama against each other at the end of the college football season.

This is going to be a huge match. The winner will most likely be crowned champions of the English Premier League in three weeks. I’ll be taking off from work early, watching this match at Stoney’s, and rooting for United.

Dang, where’s the Like button when you need one.

BTW, they just played a commercial in Spanish on regular old ESPN. Republicans must be freaking out.

It’s not called “Soccer”. It’s “Football”.

It’s only called soccer if (a) It’s played in the US, and (b) it’s played badly.

…and I like watching Barcelona. Manchester City is a nice gritty team. ManU is a bunch of overpaid spoiled brats.

I met the mayor of Manchester a few years ago. He was a big City fan, as are most people who live there.

  6. nemski says:

LE, I called it soccer as in the headline as not to confuse anyone. United are a bunch of spoiled brats? I guess you are forgetting about Balotelli and Tevez for City.

  7. fightingbluehen says:

City has the best players oil money can buy, but their supporters are scum. They booed our national anthem at the Mayweather vs. Hatton fight in Las Vegas. Noel Gallagher can naff off.

  8. Dorian Gray says:

Blue Moon! (Didn’t even see Nemski post this… Sorry so late but FUCK ALL do I loathe United!)

    Spurs back in 4th bitches!

  9. nemski says:

    LOL.

Fourth place is going to be a fight.
