Flyers-Devils Preview

Filed in Sports by on April 29, 2012

The streets of Philadelphia will be quiet this afternoon, but in the bars, homes and the Wells Fargo Center, it is going to be loud and obnoxious as the Flyers get ready for their bitter rival, the New Jersey Devils. The Toronto Sun has a great preview of the series and its history going back to Scott Stevens hit on Eric Lindros back in 2000.

Sure, the Flyers looked impressive in disposing of Sidney Crosby’s talented Pittsburgh Penguins in six games in the first round. At the same time, as wobbly as he has looked in spurts in recent years, surely Brodeur could not play any worse than the Pens Marc-Andre Fleury, who resembled a beer league goalie at certain points versus the Flyers.

Then there’s the fact that the Devils and Flyers do not like each other.

Never have. Never will.

Also of note, Bryzaglov has been hot against the Devils this year.

Bryzgalov was one shot away from being perfect against New Jersey in the regular season. He faced 76 shots and made 75 saves over 209 minutes of action in four games, shutting out the Devils twice in three starts. His goals-against average against New Jersey was an astonishing 0.29 and his save percentage was a remarkable .987.

Those Bryzgalov numbers are staggering. If he only gets a little bit of that in this series….
