Senate to Vote on Postal Reform

Filed in National by on April 24, 2012

As the Senate gets ready to vote on postal reform, I find myself in odd agreement with Senator Tom Carper. The Post Office is due for a major overhaul: the closing of post offices, restructuring retirements, 5-day mail delivery, and other items. One of the issues right now is that there are 39 amendments in play. And, here is where it gets weird, I agree with Carper on the role of the legislative branch:

Sen. Thomas R. Carper (D-Del.), who is sponsoring the main bill with Lieberman, has said that Congress needs to stop acting like 535 members of the Postal Service board of directors. “We can solve this problem if we work together to provide the Postal Service with the flexibility and resources it needs to survive in the 21st century,” he said recently.
