‘Buffett Rule’ to Lose in Senate Today

Filed in National by on April 16, 2012

The ‘Buffett Rule’ which would increase the tax rate for millionaires will come up to  a vote in the Senate today and lose.

The bill is set to fail, on a party-line vote, thanks to a Republican filibuster — and thus illustrate to voters where the two parties’ priorities truly lie.

I hope the Dems get some mileage out of this. The DC “strategists” usually end up chickening out and start buying the GOP’s spin since their TV’s are tuned to CNN and Fox News all day.

Once again, I haven’t heard a peep about Obama’s efforts to break the filibuster by turning a few Republicans. Enjoy your kabuki, folks.

    *boggle*

Why would he try to turn any Republicans? Even better — which ones? Turning Republicans means that the rule as proposed gets watered down, which would mean that you would be right back here complaining about that.

“Why would he try to turn any Republicans?”

I guess you’re right. If Obama and Biden try too hard, with their combined Senate experience they might accidentally pass the legislation. And nobody wants that, right? Better to just sit tight and let the party lines pre-determine the outcome. Kabuuu-kiiii…

@ puck you mean this or this or this.

True, Obama is probably not actively trying to break the filibuster to get this passed by the Senate, because it would fail in the House. Also, Obama is most likely looking long term and will use the Buffett Rule as a campaign chip.

So then, which Republicans should he be turning? And what compromises can he make in this legislation that you won’t whinge about?

Or are you just in the business of whinging no matter what President Obama does?
