69 percent want out of Afghanistan now.

The new low represents the crossing of a certain psychological and cultural threshold. It means the Afghanistan war is now at least as unpopular as the Iraq war was at the height of public ire. In fact, by some measures, the war to beat the Taliban — the guys who gave safe harbor to the 9/11 terrorists — is now more unpopular than the one to get rid of Saddam and his alleged stockpiles of WMDs.

Mr. President, speed up that timetable.

  1. John Manifold says:

Got an email from Brandywine Dems [about today’s school referendum]. The background icon had political signs – from Markell, Denn, Short, D.E. Wms … and Karen Hartley-Nagle.

Have I missed something, or is KHN still a factor?

  2. MJ says:

Rep. Bobby Rush shows support for Trayvon Martin. I find it ironic that a white, Mississippi rethug was gaveling Short to silence.

  3. fightingbluehen says:

What’s up with the Black Panthers putting a bounty on that Zimmerman guy? That is some lawless shit. Anarchy man.

  4. Jason330 says:

OMG. But wait, did you hear this? Obama is black.

  5. socialistic ben says:

What’s the current threshold for being black?
50% African decent is black… what about 25%, but really dark?
Why is our Eurocentric society so exclusionary with who we allow to be called “white”?
I think the only way to fix the world is to ban same-race marriages!

  6. Another Mike says:

I would like to thank the Brandywine School District for holding a student concert at Lombardy Elementary for parents on — wait for it — the same day as a referendum that will increase my and their school taxes by more than 15%. I know this is a tried-and-true way to get likely supporters into the school to vote. All you have to do is tell the parents after the concert ends that “without your support for the referendum, activities like this will have to be cut” and you guarantee yourself a victory.

Nevermind the fact that lines like that are pure bullshit. (Seriously, can anyone name the last regular public high school that did not field a football or basketball team, or the last band to be silenced?) The real problem at Lombardy was a complete lack of parking spots.

And the election types there were telling people they needed a photo ID, which is not the case under Delaware law. A utility bill would do, or a paycheck or government document containing your name and address. In the case you did not have any ID, you would have to sign a sworn affidavit that you are an eligible voter.

  7. fightingbluehen says:

Go ask the main stream media ben. They keep calling Zimmerman a “white-Hispanic”

  8. pandora says:

I hate the “hold the event on referendum night” game. For crying out loud, let’s move referendums and – especially – school board elections to November on election day. This would guarantee that school districts and board members (who are political) to court everyone.

  9. Idealist says:

Its an interesting argument that conservatives make, “Progressives cheated by promoting higher turnout.” Sorry that our strategy doesn’t rely on stifling the majority of folks from voting.

  10. cassandra m says:

That is a great poem, heragain!

  11. fightingbluehen says:

Hey ben, If Zimmerman is a “White Hispanic” then Obama is a “White African American” right? Obama’s mother is white and his father is African American. Zimmerman’s mother is Hispanic and his father is White.

If Zimmerman had done something good and noteworthy instead of killing an unarmed kid, you can bet your bottom dollar that the New York Times would have referred to him as just Hispanic and not White Hispanic. It’s just the way the main stream media works . Remember that “White Hispanic” is not a commonly used term in the media,

  12. pandora says:

I have moved the comments relating to the unbloodied Zimmerman video to the new thread which deals with this topic. Sorry for any inconvenience!
