Go Economy!!

Filed in National by on March 9, 2012

The new job numbers exceeded expectations yet again, with the economy adding 233,000 private sector jobs in February. The numbers for January were also revised up to 284,000 jobs.

From MarketWatch:

Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had forecast the U.S. would add 213,000 jobs last month, with the jobless rate holding steady at 8.3%. Subtracting another decline in government jobs, the private sector boosted payrolls by 233,000. Average hourly earnings rose by 3 cents, or 0.1%, to $23.31 and hours worked was flat at 34.5. Job gains for January were revised up to 284,000 from 243,000 – the biggest monthly increase since the recession ended – and December’s employment gains were revised up to 223,000 from 203,000. The past three months of full-time job growth is the fastest since early 2006.

In case you were wondering, this is why the GOP has restarted the culture wars. They no longer have the economy to run on.

The GOP has not finished trying to fuck up the economy though. They are going to break the budget agreement and push for another credit downgrade.

I think we all know that they are crazy enough to do it. The question is, will they get help from the White House?

  2. Digby says:

Jason, didn’t Obama also basically disregard the budget agreement with his recent budget though? According to his own numbers he was going to increase spending over the next ten years which would have gone against the agreement, no?

  3. Rustydils says:

The economy is still in horable shape. At this pace it will take 10 more years to reach full employment. By anyones standards that is far to long. Small business is still cripled. And the problem with small business being crippled is that they employ over 40 percent of all us workers. Do not take my word for it, ask any, I repeat, any small business owner

  4. Digby says:

Your answer says everything I need to know, Jason. Thank you for your insight.

  5. Digby says:

His spending increases would have been far higher than the agreed upon level. But you’re right, that doesn’t count.

  6. MJ says:

Yeah, Rusty and Digby, it’s going to take a lot of time for the Democrats to get us out of the economic abyss that W and the other rethugs put us in with 2 unpaid for wars and tax breaks for the 1%.

  7. puck says:

“the economic abyss that W and the other rethugs put us in with 2 unpaid for wars and tax breaks for the 1%.”

Okay but… two years of those tax breaks for the 1% are on Obama’s account. Ending them in 2010 would have been one hell of a down payment on recovery.

  8. socialistic ben says:

puck, while what you say is factually true, remember…. Obama extended tax cuts for Mitt Romney so people on unemployment….. because of the economy BUsh gave us….. could continue to feed their children. If Mitt Romney’s taxes were allowed to go up, people would have starved.

  9. Jason330 says:

It is handy to have this little preview of how the GOP is going to rationalize breaking the budget agreement in order to push for another credit downgrade; Obama broke the budget agreement first. Brilliant strategy.

If the GOP can get the American public to buy that pile of bullshit, they deserve to win.

  10. Jason330 says:

Puck, I’ll take Obama over Romney any day of the week..

  11. socialistic ben says:

that’s what they said about W

  12. Jason330 says:

And they got W for two terms. You have to decide if you want Obama, with all his faults, for two terms or one.

  13. Rustydils says:

Ok, it was a tough choice, but I will take obama for one term

  14. Romney’s economic plan is to cut taxes on himself and his rich buddies, spent boatloads on defense and cut some unnamed domestic programs while saving SS and Medicare for 55 and over (screw you 54-year-olds!). I figure he was going to plant magic money trees or something. He also plans on waving a magic wand and repealing health care reform all by himself. He’s obviously the adult in the GOP race.

  15. Liberal Elite says:

@UI “Romney’s economic plan is to cut taxes on himself and his rich buddies…”

Isn’t it a bit scary that he plans to treat America just like he treated those companies he bought?
