Leap Day Open Thread [2.29.12]

Peter Hamby notes “the mechanics of the 2012 Republican race are beginning to resemble those of the 2008 Democratic nomination fight, a grind-it-out battle for delegates that could last through well into the spring.”

“Romney continues to lead his foes in the delegate hunt, adding at least three dozen to his total after beating Rick Santorum in Michigan and Arizona. But with 437 delegates on the table next Tuesday, and with most of them allocated according to each candidate’s share of the vote, all four of the GOP contenders are certain to boost their delegate counts, giving everyone in the field a rationale, however thin, to move forward.”

Maureen Dowd is not pleased.:

Rick should scat. Mitt Romney needs to be left alone to limp across the finish line, so he can devote his full time and attention to losing to President Obama.

I don’t really have time to watch it now. I just saw the part where he works out at the Y in the morning. I’m planning to watch the rest of it later and count the Republicans.

I guess the only question left in the thing is, who will be Romney’s running mate?

  3. MJ says:

Davy Jones of the Monkees died. 🙁

  4. Jason330 says:

That is sucky news. I took Mrs. Liberal to see David Cassidly a few years ago and it was awesome. The Monkeys and the Partridge Family were most of the soundtrack for my childhood.

  5. pandora says:

    What? No Jackson 5?

  6. MJ says:

    Jason – it’s the Monkees. 😛

I saw Shaun & David Cassidy on Broadway in 1988-89 in “Blood Brothers” with Carole King. Saw Patrick Cassidy (their younger brother) with their mom, Shirley Jones, in “42nd Street” on Broadway a few years ago.

  7. Jason330 says:

What are the odds? Even when I spell something right I spell it wrong. ..and of course The Jackson 5, especially the cartoon and the appeareances on Mike Douglas. Also, Alfafla singing to Darla Hood.

    The is the complete soundtrack.

I still get happy whenever “I’m a Believer” plays. Just happy music. Sorry be being so low-brow El Som.

  9. Joanne Christian says:

I’m w/ you auntie dem–just wait til Bobby Sherman croaks. All this winter it seemed public TV was hosting one of those “60’s Revival” series out of Pittsburgh, and good ol’ Davy was host to the broadcast being sold for one of their fund-raising campaigns–late at night into the AM, when I’m trying to wind down from work–I never changed the channel–bet I saw it 5 times. BTW Grace Slick looks great….

  10. pandora says:

Oh my! Peace, love and Bobby Sherman!

Julie, Julie, Julie and Here Come The Brides!

  11. Joanne Christian says:

Hey Little Woman…..please make up your mind…..

    ElSom runs for a restroom:)!!

  12. Jason330 says:

I can just picture a little Pandora listening to 45’s spinning the Bobby Sherman and Gilbert O’Sullivan in the basement until the ‘Room 222’ theme song comes on. Maybe ‘Room 222’ stuff should go in the Red Clay thread?

  13. Joanne Christian says:

Nothin’ beats Bubble Gum when you’re young and happy….

  14. MJ says:

Room 222 – Karen Valentine’s first show and Michael Constantine (the father from My Big Fat Greek Wedding) playing the principal.

Judy Collins, James Taylor, PP&M, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Andy Gibb, Neil Sedaka, The Lovin’ Spoonfull, Mamas & the Papas. Oh how I miss that music.

Now you got this rap. It’s not singing, it’s declaring (h/t Mel Brooks).

  15. auntie dem says:

MJ, you would love my iPod.

  16. MJ says:

Auntie Dem – that’s why I have Sirius/XM in the car.
