What Were They Thinking?

Filed in National by on February 25, 2012

Rmoney’s team of crack campaign staff had him deliver an economic address (YAWN) yesterday to about 1200 people in Ford Stadium. Ford Stadium that has a Sunday football capacity of 65,000. Think Progress has posted up a picture from Rmoney’s event and pictures from comparable Obama events from February of 2008. So take a look:

So what were they thinking? I mean, this is pathetic — especially since I gather that they knew the group the invites were going to would never fill that space or even come close. Have we gotten to the point in the GOP primary race where even Rmoney’s staffers don’t like him? I mean, if there is a way to remind people that Rmoney is as plastic as they think he is, show him in a big stadium that he obviously couldn’t fill.

This is a very embarrassing visual, and one the Romney campaign should have moved heaven and earth to avoid. A picture says a thousand words…

Apparently they originally booked another location with a much smaller capacity. When they quickly gave out all the tickets to fill that location up, they decided to move to a larger location to accommodate a larger crowd. Unfortunately, they went way too big.

I think it’s funny that R$ made it a point to again mention the perfect height of the trees in Michigan. Talk about awkward.

This was just like when Bob Dole fell off the stage, except planned in advance.

Looks like someones super pac has even more money than we thought .

  5. All it took was one call to whichever octogenarian Ford now rules the family roost. White zillionaires always stick together.

Politics 101: Always book an event somewhere that’s just a little too small to hold it so that it looks like an overflow crowd.

Romney, of course, tried to blame it on the Economic Club of Detroit. Which raises the question, what the bleep does he have a campaign staff for?

This is so embarrassing that it could actually cost him the Michigan primary on Tuesday.

So far, by far, the biggest political screw-up of the year.

I’m lifelong friends w/ someone whose views are far more right wing than mine.

I’ve been disappointed w/ Obama, but he is ANTI-Obama. I met w/ him today & we discussed the Republican candidates. He hates them all, and knows they are a JOKE, but he hates Obama more than them. His parents are from the south. I’m sure he, his wife & his parents will all vote for the R candidate. Very sad.

  7. FACEPALM to the Romney team. They’ve been blaming the Secret Service, too, like the Secret Service told them to speak in an empty stadium. Still chuckling to myself that Romney is the BEST of this dismal GOP field.

Not only were the visuals terrible for the speech but the speech itself was terrible AND Romney made another out-of-touch rich guy gaffe.

As usual, you airheads are focussing on the wrong thing. Romneys economic speech was brilliant, and if any of you understood supply side economics (which you do not), then you would understand that the policies romney outlined in his speech are exactly what this country needs.
I can just imagine that when you all were in school, I am sure you went home and complained about the classroom, or the teacher, or the teachers haircut, or the brightness of the lights, I am sure the only thing you did not discuss was the days lesson, you see, that is how you get to be airheads
