Tuesday Open Thread [1.31.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on January 31, 2012 9 Comments

It is a slow news day and I am again slammed at work. Tonight, Mitt Romney will win the Florida primary and be the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party. Newt Gingrich takes issue with those, including myself, that say that. “You mean those who said I was dead in June? Those who said I was dead in December? They are about as accurate as they were the last two times they were wrong.” – Newt Gingrich, quoted by ABC News. He said the race would go on for “six or eight months” and then added: “unless Romney drops out earlier.”

Impressions of the First Wilmington Mayoral Town Hall

Filed in Delaware by on January 31, 2012 31 Comments

Last night was the first Mayoral Town Hall or Debate sponsored by WDEL. This forum played to a standing room only crowd (they did indeed stop people from coming in after awhile). All of the known candidates were there except for Bovell and Bobby Marshall. I was there with some friends and here’s what I think of the field so far.

Eugene Robinson Asks “Why Does Mitt Romney Want To Be President?”

Filed in National by on January 31, 2012 19 Comments

Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul have all laid out bold visions — more properly, hallucinations — of where they would take the country. But where is Romney’s shining city on a hill? What’s his “compassionate conservatism,” his “hope and change”? What is it that Mitt Romney, deep in his heart or down in his gut, really believes in?

Monday Open Thread [1.30.12]

So Mitt Romney is pulling away in Florida. It looks like he will win the state by double digits, if not by 20 points. What does this mean for the Republican Primary race going forward? I suspect the race will continue for some time, and continue to be acrimonious, but the outcome is no longer in doubt: Mitt Romney will be the nominee. There are two question remaining: 1) Will Donald Trump jump in the race as an Independent if it appears Mitt Romney can’t beat Obama? and 2) What will Palin and Gingrich do? Given her comments over the weekend on her Facebook page, it appears she hates Romney with a passion, as does Gingrich. Do they cause trouble at the convention? Do they team up with Trump? Do they go third party themselves?

Well, here are some polls to occupy us for the time being. They are all pretty boring now.

Frank Knotts’ Last Post At Delaware Politics?

Filed in Delaware by on January 30, 2012 39 Comments

Frank Knotts, a contributor at Delaware Politics, has written a post about other contributors penchant for deleting comments they simply don’t agree with.  This deleting of comments has been going on for quite a while, and fingers are being pointed at Don Ayotte – rightly so, imo. For the second time today I have been […]

So what is going on today? Commenter TT reminded me of just how wonderful House of Cards is, and that I haven’t seen it for awhile. Time to fix that. TT notes that it is streaming on Netflix AND it is streaming on Amazon. So pick your preferred delivery method and go.
