George Romney And Saul Alinsky – Not Kidding

Filed in National by on January 25, 2012

You gotta be kidding me.

“Saul Alinsky radicalism is at the heart of Obama,” Gingrich told CNN Sunday.

Which makes all things Alinsky evil and the latest Republican talking point, which then leads us to…

Michigan Governor George Romney’s biography  (“Romney’s Way” by T. George Harris)

When slum organizer Saul Alinsky, with the West Side Organization’s militant Negroes and clerics, wanted to meet with the white Detroit rulers, Romney indirectly arranged the meeting, and attended. Democratic Mayor Jerome Cavanaugh avoided the rough company.

“I think you ought to listen to Alinsky,” Romney told his reluctant white friends. ‘It seems to me that we are always talking to the same people. Maybe the time has come to hear new voices.” Said an Episcopal bishop, ‘He made Alinsky sound like a Republican.

Newt is the luckiest man alive… while Mitt Romney can’t catch a break.

On the other hand, his Dad sounds pretty cool.

You know, I honestly believe that the references to Alinsky and Chomsky is some not-so-velied anti-Semitism. Think about it.

    No…. d’ya think?

They are just confused because the names rhyme with Trotsky.

I wonder if Abbie Hoffman would be pissed to know that Alinsky gets to be the 1960’s hobgoblin that haunts Republicans dreams.

If you go to Wikipedia (I know not always accurate), and google George Romney, they have a complete history of his life, broken into phases, from cradle to grave. His life story is amazing to me, It looks like he never took a break. Anyway, makes for good reading.

I think an actual biography would be better reading, and more informative, than a Wiki entry. But we all know that Wikipedia is History for Dummies, right Rusty?

  6. xstryker says:

Rusty’s right, its worth a read. George Romney was a member of that extinct species, the Liberal Republican. And he’d be turning in his grave if he saw how unscrupulously his son has abandoned Michigan’s manufacturing base and courted the neo-Birchers.

you “googled” George Romey on Wikipedia?…. Google is officially a verb for finding info on any internet site.

OH Mittens Rmoney is a total disgrace to his illegal immigrant father.

Alinsky as part of the current GOP dog-whisling makes sense to me. Because people working to make sure that poor people and people of color are heard and part of the process that is their birthright count as traitors in the GOP playbook.

The irony of it is that President Obama certainly hasn’t had the issues of poor people or people of color at the top of his Concern List, either. But these people hang on to their delusions as if they’d turn into gold any minute now.
