“It’s Not My Job.”

Filed in National by on January 24, 2012

To John McCain’s credit, and Sarah Palin’s chagrin, John McCain did correct people in the audiences of his speeches and town halls who wrongly believed that the President was a Muslim. To someone like John McCain, where integrity, honor and truth seem to matter a great deal, I suppose not doing so, and allowing such malicious disinformation that is fostered on many corners of the right to grow, was a rubicon he could not cross.

Rick Santorum has no such trouble.

In case you cannot watch the video, here’s what happened:

“He is an avowed Muslim and my question is why isn’t something being done to get him out of our government. He has no legal right to be calling himself president,” a woman asked, referring to President Obama.

Standing in front of a crowd of more than 250 mostly senior citizens, Santorum did not address the incorrect claim about the president’s religion.

“Well yeah,” said Santorum. “I’m doing my best to get him out of the government right now and she is right that he uniformly ignores the Constitution.”

Not only did Santorum not correct her about the President being a Muslim, he essentially confirms her belief with the “she is right that he uniformly ignores the Constitution.” Now, Santorum was probably referring to some other fantastical lie that he and other right wing radicals have dreamed up, but the audiences and that bigoted woman will believe he is referring to the lie that the President was born in Kenya and thus constitutionally ineligible to be President.

After the event, the former Pennsylvania senator told reporters it is not his job to correct every false claim that comes up during questions. “Why do you guys ask these ‘Gotcha’ questions like it’s my job to go out and correct everybody who says something I don’t agree with?” Santorum responded to media inquiring about the exchange.

Uh, excuse me, Senator, you didn’t say you disagreed with it. In fact, you said you agreed with it. And that makes you a liar, Senator, because you know full well that the President is a Christian. And yes, it is your job to correct somebody who says an untruth, if you know it to be an untruth. It is your job as a Christian. I do believe the Ten Commandments have something in them about lying.

  1. KitS says:

What’s more important, is why do people act like being a Muslim DISqualifies you from running for POTUS? The best response would be something along the lines of “No, ma’am, the President is NOT a Muslim, but even if he were, that does not reflect on his ability to do the job.” And then he could state how/why he disagrees with the President’s views, but not confirm the belief that Muslims are not qualified for office.

  2. Que Pasa says:

Being a Muslim AND a vacuous Alinskyite robot who hates the foundational values of this country disqualifies Obama from getting my vote and many millions of others.

  3. Que Pasa says:

Regardless, Santorum is right. Let Obama’s media enablers do the job of protecting him.

After all, they got him elected despite his having barely the qualifications or abilities to lead a two-car caravan down a country lane without pulling over to read what the teleprompter screens say.

Can’t you liberals find a better candidate to actually lead us? Or are you so far up Obama’s arse to see what a failure he truly is?

  4. socialistic ben says:

…. is what uneducated teajadists say.
I bet 75% of the people who use “Obama is an Alinskyite” meme didnt know who the hell Saul Alinsky was until Newt started saying it.
Rick Santorum is totally void of honor or vales other than forcing his version of Jesus on everyone.
I remember how it was Obama’s job to correct, disavow, and be blamed for everything said by everyone he ever met. By that logic, Santorum believes everything said by every crazy christian ever.

  5. Geezer says:

Why don’t you explain what a “failure” he is for us? Please do so by comparing him with the “successful” George W. Bush. Or are you so far up any random conservative’s ass that you don’t notice how badly you stink?

  6. socialistic ben says:

“After all, they got him elected despite his having barely the qualifications or abilities to lead a two-car caravan down a country lane without pulling over to read what the teleprompter screens say.”

cute. Do you really think Obama is a secret kenyan muslim still? or is like how i believe W eats babies?….. or wait you don’t BELIEVE he is a muslim, you just haven’t heard the whole story…. is that it?

  7. The Straight Scoop says:

    QP,

So if during an Obama campaign event, a liberal asks, “How could we elect a goat-raping, draft-dodging, illegal Canadian immigrant like (Newt/Santorum/Mitt)?” then Obama should ignore it and move on rather than correcting the person.

Thanks for the clarification. Good to know that the Judeo-Christian belief of “Do unto others…” is alive and well for Santorum and others.

  8. socialistic ben says:

i have one. Can you criticize Obama without using the following words.
TelePrompTer – every single public speaker uses them. Palin uses them, Newt uses them
    Muslim—

    Alinsky–

Maoist Lenninis Marxist Communist Bolshevic Socialist— (bonus points for knowing the difference between all of them)

Food Stamps— (more WHITE people on food stamps… even proportionately, than any other group. dont worry Pasa, your hard earned Christian dollars are going to whites….. also, so many people are on food stamps because Mitt laid them off.

    Birth Certificate –

Tax Hike (no matter how much money you make, your taxes are lower now than they were under Clinton and Bush. that is a fact. as solid, proven by math fact. I know conservatives hate science, but it is fact)

so, if you can make an argument without any of those Fox-issued buzz words… you get a cookie

  9. puck says:

No, Obama should demand the person apologize to Canada.

  10. Jason330 says:

On the one hand, I love how mental the wingnuts are getting. It is as if they are all battling to see who can bring the most shame and dishonor to their movement.

On the other hand, old nutbags like that lady crush the field when it comes to GOTV.

  11. MJ says:

Could you imagine the heads exploding and the vitriol that would be expended if Obama was Black and Jewish? Asshats like QP would be railing about how he owns all of the banks and controls Hollywood.

Hey QP. You must be a masochist to come here every day and get your butt spanked.

  12. xstryker says:

Education time: Saul Alinksky was an avowed opponent of Marxism and Communism, who organized slum residents to push the cities they lived in to improve the conditions around them. He was Jewish, and not afraid to shock the sensibilities of those in charge, once threading to organize an African American piss-in at the O’Hare airport bathroom (Chicago had a terrible history of racial discrimination in those days). William F Buckley praised Alinsky’s organizational genius, and his ideas had a major impact on both the election of Barack Obama and the formation of the Tea Party movement.

As a “media enabler”, I guess you just gave me the job of illuminating your ignorance, so I took you up on it. Happy to help.

  13. anonymous says:

A Georgia judge has ordered Obama to appear in court re: his birthcertificate. Georgia wants him off the ballot.

  14. Another Mike says:

I’m guessing not one of Newt’s fans could even tell him who Saul Alinsky is. I really don’t know more than what xstryker wrote a few minutes ago. I’m not sure how much anti-Alinsky rhetoric and hate will resonate with voters. Most couldn’t tell you a signature achievement of Ronald Reagan, much less a long-dead community organizer from Chicago.

In fact, I think if members of the Tea Party read more about what Alinsky was about, they might become fans of his.

  15. Que Pasa says:

And FYI…my father grew up in Chicago during the 50’s and 60’s. He spent a lot of time undercover helping his brother (my uncle), a police officer and investigator, infiltrate and expose a lot of the Alinskyite organizations mucking around in the neighborhoods back then. So, thank you, but I knew about Obama and self-promoting, rootless community ‘rabble-rousers’ long before ‘The Speech’ in 2004. They are to be despised by all.

  16. MJ says:

“My father grew up in Chicago…..inflitrate Alinskyite organizations…” Translation – “my father and uncle had man-crushes on Joe McCarthy and were members of the John Birch Society. I, on the otherhand, am a complete asshat.”

  17. xstryker says:

Fun fact: In the McCarthy era/J Edgar Hoover era/Nixon Administration, what QP describes actually happened. Groups protesting the Vietnam War, or supporting Civil Rights, or the rights of workers to organize, were infiltrated by undercover cops and federal agents. Many of the infiltrating officers were members of the openly racist Fred Birch society, and First Amendment rights were under full assault – opposing the authorities made you a target for police harassment (and in the case of Kent State, murder). Ironically, those conservatives who supported such actions now warn us of the dangers of Big Government.

Here is a good article to start with regarding racism in Chicago. The conflict between police and protesters came to a head at the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago, an embarassment which changed the Democratic party forever. Sorry to break this to you, QP, but telling us your Dad was an undercover cop during the Daley administration is basically like telling us he was a Southern Democrat in Mississippi during the 50’s. Everyone is just going to assume he was a violent racist whether or not it’s true. In all likelihood, your father posed a greater danger to American values than any of the groups he investigated.

  18. MJ says:

Anon – where is your birth certificate and your college transcripts? What are you trying to hide?

FYI – whatever that “judge” ordered in Georgia will be quashed. Don’t bet anything on the President actually showing up in court.

  19. socialistic ben says:

what are you talking about? Your uncle used a non-police officer to conduct undercover political stings?
That means your uncle is a dirty cop and your dad is a criminal… un american at that. A cop and a private citizen operating outside the law and outside the Constitution to hold down a perfectly legal political idea. Infiltrate and expose huh? to who? The John Birch society? Or is that story made up?
you have a lot to be proud of.

  20. MJ says:

XStryker – You’re referring to COINTELPRO.

  21. puck says:

So your father was a Red-scare version of James O’Keefe?

How do you expose an organization that operates openly?

  22. socialistic ben says:

His dad and super-cop uncle SINGLE HANDEDLY (i guess it was quatro handedly) stopped Lenin from being resurrected in chicago and elected President.

  23. pandora says:

Poor Que Pasa. He posted the same comment about his uncle and father over at Delaware Politics – he’s kind of a big shot over there. But here Xstryker has countered his every argument with civility and knowledge. Nice job, X.

  24. MJ says:

Pandora – is that big shot, dot the “o?”

  25. xstryker says:

Thanks, Pandora. Also, I meant to say John Birch – the Fred Birch Society was a parody of such from a game I played back in college.

  26. Que Pasa says:

    Xstryker et al,

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

First off, they weren’t with the Chicago PD, but with Forest Park, an urbanized “village” to the west of city proper and thus, OUTSIDE of Daley’s malodorous jurisdiction.

Secondly, it wasn’t a ‘two-man gang’, it was parallel to a larger effort by nearly all PD’s in Chicagoland to quash any illegalities that were going on during this period of nefarious leftist activities and communist infiltration from abroad…and there were!!!

So before you all get your crotchless panties into a twist, take a step back, breath and realize that what they were doing wasn’t illegal, wasn’t corrupt, but was instituted from the top and supported by the law-abiding citizenry to protect the fabric and general well-being of the community. Also, do realize that both served honorably in the U.S. Army and, along with my other patrilineal ancestors, represent an unbroken line of conservative, pro-Constitutional, American patriots back to the Revolutionary War.

  27. puck says:

You know who is most offended when Obama is called a socialist? Real socialists.

  28. MJ says:

I thought today was January 24. Reading QP’s drivel, one would think it was April Fool’s Day.

QP – Forest Park is in Cook County, and Daley controlled Cook County along with the City of Chicago. And just because daddy and uncle cop served honorably in the Army doesn’t mean that they weren’t breaking the law after they were discharged.

  29. MJ says:

Hey, I found out that there was a television series based on the exploits of QP’s dad and uncle – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_54,_Where_Are_You%3F

  30. puck says:

He spent a lot of time undercover helping his brother (my uncle), a police officer and investigator, infiltrate and expose a lot of the Alinskyite organizations mucking around in the neighborhoods back then. So, thank you, but I knew about Obama and self-promoting, rootless community ‘rabble-rousers’ l

Isn’t the sheriff doing something like that down in Sussex County, except with the Guatemalan and Mexican menace instead of the Jews and the Reds?

  31. socialistic ben says:

QP is direct lineage to the Founders! i didnt know we had such a legend in our midst.
Dude, nothing you have said has shown your dad and uncle were anything other than right wing thugs, terrorizing people for holding differing beliefs. The fact they did it “under cover” i.e operating as law enforcement, they were criminals. Dont get me wrong. John Brown was also a criminal, and now he’s a hero!

  32. Que Pasa says:

    MJ,

Presumably based on misplaced personal sympathies for and stories about fellow travelers on the left (who you and the rest of the turds on this site sadly believe in), just because you SAY they did, doesn’t mean they broke any laws 40 years ago investigating scum-ridden Alinskyite organizations POSING as helpers of the poor.

Forest Park was then and still is an independent incorporated village within Cook County. Each village, along with the City of Chicago, provided all the policing within the county, i.e. there was no “Cook County Police Department”. Additionally, they are Republicans of mostly long-integrated Anglo stock on my grandfather’s side and thus, never thought highly of the ethno-rabble that constituted the many divergent arms of the Democratic Party, nor did they care for Hizzoner himself or, most especially, the career-climbing sycophants genuflecting for political handouts within ‘Da Machine’. So POP goes another one of your presumptive accusations.

Regardless, joke all you want, in the end there will always be more of us than there are of you.

  33. Que Pasa says:

    Ben the Lil’Red Star,

“Dude, nothing you have said has shown your dad and uncle were anything other than right wing thugs, terrorizing people for holding differing beliefs”…while engaging in illegal activities.

    There, fixed it for you!

And my point about my lineage was to highlight the fact that in addition to their patriotic military service, they weren’t about to engage in the disruption of anyone’s rights, unless, of course, there was reason to do so due to illegal activities. So try again, moron!

  34. liberalgeek says:

And yet… You have yet to name a single illegal activity that the targets of the investigations engaged in, QP.

Sorry, but being a communist isn’t actually illegal.

  35. xstryker says:

Ethno-rabble? Sound like a couple of Illinois Nazis to me (tm Blues Brothers). Definitely Birchers though.

As for demographics, today’s conservatives no longer oppose interracial marriage or “whites-only” drinking fountains. Presumably your papa might consider all you “modern conservatives” a bunch of namby-pamby moderates. And 30 years from now, 40% will still be conservative, but gay marriage will be legal in all 50 states and marijuana will be legal, and a majority of conservatives will support that. The arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice (MLK).

  36. Aoine says:

UMMM – Que Pasa – if the folks on this site are “turds”

what does that say about you??commenting in here and responding to aforementioned “turds”

just askin’ coz I would not want you be to soiled….

  37. MJ says:

No one said there was a Cook County PD. You claimed that Forest Park was “OUTSIDE of Daley’s malodorous jurisdiction.” Unfortunately, you either forgot or deliberately failed to state that Cook County was controlled by Daley from 1953-1976. Gee, I love the smell of revisionist history in the afternoon. It smells like bullshit.

There are more of you than us? I think you’ve been dipping into the magic mushrooms again.

  38. socialistic ben says:

    Im not communist.
Also, you think your dad is batman. no further discussion needed.

  39. Liberal Elite says:

” was instituted from the top and supported by the law-abiding citizenry to protect the fabric and general well-being of the community.”

By stomping on the rights of a few. It seems rather un-American to me.

Tell me… Do you support the 1st amendment? Do you actually believe in freedom for all?

And don’t use the words “patriot” and “honor”. You bastardize the meaning of those words. What did the true patriots fight for? Not that stuff. It’s ironic when someone like you uses the word ‘patriotic’ when advocating ‘treasonous’ activities. Sick of it…
