Monday Open Thread [12.19.11]

Filed in National by on December 19, 2011

With the next two weeks being holiday weeks for many, including us, posting will be light. MJ has several Hanukkah posts ready to go. I will have the Open Threads and the Daily Delawhere each day, and somewhere in there we will find time to post on any local or national happenings.

Republicans sure are a fickle lot. I see now that Gingrich is coming back to Earth and now Ron Paul is the flavor of the month. With the latest Public Policy Polling survey showing Newt Gingrich fading fast in Iowa, Nate Silver’s forecasting model gives Ron Paul a 44% chance of winning Iowa, Mitt Romney a 32% chance of winning, while Gingrich’s chances have sunk to just 15%.

I just want to remind everyone that I was the first person to predict Romney. In fact I beat most prognosticators by about 6 years.

The fun thing is going to be watching the entire media pretend that Iowa didn’t really count.

no mention of DeLuca being primaried by Bryan Townsend (see http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2011112190321)?

I met Bryan earlier this year, and he is very solid, appears to be a great candidate to take on DeLuca.

  4. Geezer says:

PB: Would you describe Mr. Townsend as a progressive, or more a mainstream Democrat? I ask because the story said he will go to work in corporate law — not a field renowned for its liberal leanings.

  5. PBaumbach says:

He isn’t “way out” like many in PDD, but he is what I would characterize as ‘next gen’ Democrat, who very likely supports the tenets of the Democratic Party, in sharp contrast to many ‘mainstream long-term Democratic elected officials.’

I suggest that DL and WDEL reach out to him and have an interview, and ask him to describe his views on social and fiscal issues and priorities, along with ‘best practices’ for internal state party processes.

Salon.com has published its 2011 Hack List — the *journalists* and *pundits* who have most undistiguished themselves this year. Leading the list is a guy who ought to have reached the Hall of Fame status by now — Mark Halperin.

and the Chanukah threads are meant to be fun.

Biden today: “The Taliban, per se, is not our enemy”

What a joke this man is. From his vote for the war in Iraq to ignoring the fact that the just past “National Defense Authorization Act” specifically calls out the Taliban as America’s enemy, he has become the ultimate D.C. villager.

Ron Paul is now denying his rascist comments 20yrs ago. A newsletter he signed off on stated the “LA riots would end as soon as the welfare checks come in”, He made derogatory statements against MLK. Paul is the flavor of the month.
