Can crowd sourced mockery of GOP lunacy compensate for not owning cable news networks?

Filed in National by on December 9, 2011

I got to thinking about this for three reasons.
1) all of the parody videos of Rick Perry’s “strong” video.
2) all the ironic/funny signs the left is known for, and
3)…. uhh…

Anyway, the left has virtually nothing. No candidates, no money, no cable TV news networks. All we have is youtube and daily kos. Is that enough?

OWS got much more accomplished with a non-partisan critique of the 1% than anybody ever did by mocking Republicans. Although I suppose there is room for both.

Mockery works well on blatant bigotry like Perry’s ad, mainly because the tide has already started to turn against anti-gay bigotry. Nowadays Perry just looks like a dinosaur saying those things.

It’s not so simple on the economic issues though. The lines are blurred. Now if you want to mock Republican economics you also have to mock Chris Coons and John Carney. Which you are notably already doing, but more Democrats need to sign on.

So before you change your mind I will pimp this comment. The quotes from business owners are awesome. Could this story have been aired if OWS never existed?
