Bigot George Parrish to Run for County Council, Still Hates the Gays (Updated)
Sussex County Clerk of Peace George Parrish is going to announce shortly on Dan Gaffney’s show that he is running for Insurance Commissioner, for George Cole’s seat in the 4th District on the County Council (if he retires that is) as a Christianist Republican, obviously. (DL got punked with a tip that this idiot would somehow run for IC. A county council seat makes much more sense). This news comes on the heels of an News Journal story on him today where he kindly reveals that he will deign to enforce the law of the State of Delaware on Civil Unions over his own bigoted discriminatory views.
It’s Generational.
Thomas Day, a 31 year old Iraq War veteran wrote a guest column yesterday in the Washington Post’s On Faith section. Mr. Day is also a Penn State graduate, a Catholic, an acquaintance of the monster Jerry Sandusky and a product of the now notorious Second Mile foundation. The point of his column to express what I think is a common theme running my and Mr. Day’s generation, and also the youth movement that has been behind both the election of Barack Obama in 2008 and also the Occupy Movement this year:

State of Delmarva
So I stumbled upon a diary on Daily Kos that was posted last week, and found it fascinating. The diarist created the State of Delmarva by taking Delaware and adding the Eastern Shore counties of Maryland and Virginia and then examines the effects on redistricting of on this new state.

So Cain’s Over.
Cain gives a Perryesque answer to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Libya, and then comes out in support of collective bargaining rights. He has already dropped 11 points in one poll, and Gingrich takes the lead in another. So the dream is over.

Zombie Casino Alert! Part II
Another article in the NJ today provides some information on the purported losses to Delaware casinos as a result of the added competition from Maryland and Pennsylvania. An industry group points to a 2.5% loss of revenue over 2010 numbers, while the casinos point to a 13% loss in revenues for slots.

Evan Queitsch Announces Candidacy
Evan Queitsch will run against Senator Anthony DeLuca. He’s set up a website. His motto: We can make Delaware the 1st State once again! He also seems to be against literacy.

Occupy Delaware Coverage in the News Journal
If all publicity is good publicity, the Occupy Delaware people have plenty to be pleased about with yesterday’s News Journal coverage.
“100 Protesters” feels like a large number and for the first few paragraphs the coverage was relatively free of the sneering condescension that NJ editors typically spray all over stories like this.

Funny, He Doesn’t Look Jewish
“Cain said he finally realized after much praying that G-D was saying that he needed to enter the presidential race. He compared his situation to Moses, who in the Bible initially questions whether G-D has chosen the right person to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt.”
Herman, I knew Moses. Moses was a Jewish prophet of mine. Herman, your no Moses. (with apologies to Lloyd Bentsen)

Wow. This Apple store is packed.
I just logged in from a demo computer in the Apple store. (If anybody knows another Amish with mad skillz like mine, I’d like to meet them.) Anyway… there does not seem to be a recession in here.

Saturday Open Thread [11.12.11]
Since the Occupy Wall Street movement began, it has been hard for the media and ourselves to judge if the protest is working. This is because the protestors don’t have a single leader, or organization, or a list of demands. But this chart may be the only way we can tell that it is working.

Memories of Mitt
It seems like just yesterday that John McCain was the “not Romney.”
And has it really been 4 years since we really first grasped how bigoted and crazy the GOP base had become?

Why Anonymous Blogging is Sometimes Essential
“This happened to me for not understanding that I shouldn’t report on the social networks,” advised a note left before dawn with the man’s body at a key intersection in the city’s wealthier neighborhood.

Newt-onian Physics (Edited for Precision)
Any candidate, named Mitt Romney, at rest will remain at rest in the hearts of true patriot Christian ‘mericans, and any candidate. not named Mitt Romney, in motion will remain in motion unless they move up in the polls and get a little media scrutiny.

Veteran’s Day Open Thread [11.11.11]
At 11:11 am today I was trying to find the number of Delawareans that were killed in WWI. I couldn’t find a number, but I did find out that a staggering number of people were killed in that war. (22 million casualties e.g. killed or wounded) Great Brittan alone lost 2.5 million out of 5 million in arms.
At least the deaths were not in vain and the horror of “The Great War” made it impossible for any other country to ever contemplate the idea of going to war.

El Somnambulo Seeks Your Help…
…in assembling the Third Annual MVP List. This list honors those Delawareans who were (M)ost (V)aluable to the (P)rogressive cause in Delaware in 2011. In the past, I have generally limited this list to public officials. However, I am open to suggestions from outside the realm of elective public service.

Penn State and UD Have Something in Common-And It’s Not Good
Penn State is not officially a state institution per se, but a “state-related institution. As such, it now belongs to the Commonwealth System of Higher Education, and is not part of the fully public Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.”
Among other things, this means that, in addition to the university collecting millions upon millions of dollars from the State of Pennsylvania, the Board of Trustees is not obligated, nor do they, make any proceedings/minutes of Board meetings public. That includes to state officials. I wonder if the Board is going to battle FOIA demands from the Feds once that investigation is under way. It wouldn’t surprise me if it does.

Convince Calistro
So today, a new Facebook page was put up by a grassroots movement to convince Wilmington’s Paul F. Calistro, Jr., the current Executive Director of West End Neighborhood House, to run for the Mayor of Wilmington in 2012 as a progressive alternative to the prospective candidates currently assembled. I am told that Calistro has a lot of support among he same progressive activists that supported Governor Markell in his primary race against John Carney in 2008.
