Japan Tourism seeking to give away 10,000 free round trip tickets to “highly influential blogger-types”

This (being an economic stimulus program) is open only to liberal bloggers.

In a desperate attempt to lure tourists back to a country plagued by radiation fears and constant earthquakes, the Japan Tourism Agency’s proposed an unprecedented campaign – 10,000 free roundtrip tickets.

Wednesday Open Thread [10.12.11]

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn’t want any tax increases on the wealthy and has been an opponent of the Occupy Wall Street movement…… and Ralph Nader wants him to run for President, a few weeks after praising Sarah Palin’s intelligence. Other than Republicans, there is no politician I hate with a blinding passion more than Ralph Nader.

Tom Kovach should stop lying to the people.

Kovach says he is not a career politician even though he has participated as a candidate in three elections for two offices and preparing to run in another election for another higher office. He has won twice and lost once. Likewise, John Carney has participated as a candidate in four elections for three offices, and we assume he is running for reelection. He has won three times and lost once. They both look like career politicians to me. And only one of them is lying to pretend he is not.

The Loss of a Civil Rights Leader

The gay community lost a hero and leader yesterday with the passing of Dr. Frank Kameny. It was fitting that he passed away on National Coming Out Day.

Kameny was the first person to challenge his firing from the Federal government because he was gay in the courts. He was an astronomer with the Department of the Army and was fired in 1957 for being gay. He could have just quietly walked away and found something else to do but he stood and fought, all the way to the Supreme Court. Even though he lost his case, he persevered to fight for what he believed in, equal rights for the gay community.

Rose Izzo is Running.

And it looks like she has the full support of David Anderson and the teabag idiots downstate. Indeed, Anderson refers to her as the only conservative in the race for the Republican nomination to challenge John Carney. I really wonder what Tom Kovach ever did to the teabaggers. He talks a good game and appeared at all the rallies. I suppose no one from New Castle County is welcome in the Delaware Republican Party when the teabaggers are in control. But then again, as Frank Knotts points out on Delaware Hatred, Sussex County bigots will not like Rose Izzo because she has an accent. A New York accent. And I also think Rose lives in New Castle County.

New Castle County Literal “Back Room Deal” Caught on Tape

Check out the sheepish Stolz representative caught emerging from a literal back room deal session during the Barley Mill meeting last night. The rezoning was tabled. There is more at Nancy’s blog.

Quote of the Day.

“No one gets to define Frank Knotts except for God and Frank Knotts” — Frank Knotts, proving that third person speaking is not just for Bob Dole anymore. For background on this statement, apparently he is being criticized for being a RINO now, which blows my mind.

Bodie and the Sheriff Shoot Themselves in the Foot

It seems as though there are a few Republicans down here in Sussex that are not towing the teabagger line. I know, it’s hard to believe but it’s true. At last night’s GOP Executive Committee meeting, Eric “St. Bodie Girl” Bodenweiser brought forth his resolution to support Sheriff Jeff Christopher’s request for “more training” for his deputies. The resolution was soundly defeated.

The Battle of Barley Mill is Tonight.

The New Castle County Council is scheduled to vote tonight whether to rezone 40 percent of the Barley Mill Plaza office complex to allow for a 1.6 million square foot commercial complex that will include a 450,000-square-foot shopping center. This rezoning is a “compromise plan” and is “necessary” to prevent an even larger mixed use complex from being built on the former duPont complex by Pam Scott’s Stoltz Real Estate Partners. Some say Stoltz buffled with the threat of a larger complex, and Kovach fell hook, line and sinker for it.

It Won’t Be Romney.

A new Gallup poll finds Mitt Romney barely leading Herman Cain for the GOP presidential nomination, 20% to 18%, with Rick Perry at 15%, Ron Paul at 8%, Newt Gingrich at 7% and Michele Bachmann at 5%. The Republicans usually don’t have an actually competitive primary race. Usually, at this point in the election calendar, the national polls show the eventual nominee leading the race by 20 or more points. So Romney is weak, and a new ad by the Perry camp will really hurt….

UPDATE & THANK YOU ! DelawareLiberal Action to Help Support Occupy Wall Street – Live Blog

Monday October 10th, – 7:48pm

What a day… Huge thank you’s to everyone! Too many to list right now.

My first reactions… Everything you’ve heard about the gentle-spiritedness of this is true. I witnessed a bunch of Americans being the civic minded Americans that we are meant to be. Protesters, cops, journalists, all American patriots doing their thing.

Everything you heard about this being anti-capitalist is a bunch of hooey. Everyone I saw seemed to be expressing a desire to return to the kind prosperity that was built on the notion that we are all in this together. A prosperity that does not simply materially enrich a few – but on a much deeper level enriches us all.

More tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Aaron Nathans Manages To Write A Bloom Deal Story Without Lazily Quoting Fake Academics

Congrats Aaron. I kept waiting for it, but it never came. Fraudulent Academic “Dr” John Stapleford was not quoted in this morning’s front page Bloom energy story which concentrated on a recent consultant’s report. Markell’s front page block quote is a classic: “The surest way to fail is to not pursue the jobs in the first place.”

This is the Face of Hate

This is the face of pure evil. This is the face of pure hate. This man is not a Christian in any stretch of the word. I’m speaking about Bryan Fischer, a “conservative radio shock jock.” Click through to see what this “Christian” had to say today about Islam.

Surprise!! Mitt Romney is not a Christian

Who didn’t see this coming?

“I think Mitt Romney’s a good, moral man, but I think those of us who are born-again followers of Christ should always prefer a competent Christian to a competent – to a competent non-Christian like Mitt Romney,”
