Bloody Chapter of du Pont Family History Getting Big Screen Treatment

Steve Carell will be playing murder John du Pont in “Foxcatcher” a movie by Moneyball director Bennett Miller.

Via Iwatchstuff.com:

“In the film, Carell will play John du Pont, a member of the famed Du Pont family who used some of his vast, inherited fortune to build a wrestling training camp called Team Foxcatcher on his Pennsylvania estate. The facility managed to lure Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler Dave Schultz to the grounds, and that’s where things get tragic, because it turns out John du Pont was a paranoid schizophrenic, and in January 1996, he fatally shot Schultz to death in front of the estate security chief and du Pont’s wife. What a shitty wrestling camp that turned out to be. After the shooting, du Pont locked himself in his mansion for two days–negotiating on the phone as rich people are allowed to do for a couple days–before going to prison, where he died just last year at 72.

So this “Occupy Wall Street” thing is happening

I once work along side of a woman who thought that if she rubbed cedar blocks under her arms, she wouldn’t have body odor. She thought wrong. Ever since then I guess I’ve had a visceral distaste for drum circle dancing, ironic sign holding, Ralph Nader voting hippies. This news via boing boing seems like a good thing though.

Occupy Wall Street gets support from MoveOn, trade unions, community groups

By Cory Doctorow at 10:23 am Friday, Sep 30

A coalition of activists, community groups and trade unions (whom Crain’s New York Business hilariously refer as “agitators,” as though they were the Red Menace a post-WWII installment of Little Orphan Annie) are set to join the Occupy Wall Street protesters. The new group includes MoveOn, some SEIU chapters, Workers United, the United Federation of Teachers, and a Transport Workers Union local. They’re also being backed by the Working Families Party.

First Read: “No president since George H.W. Bush has had more foreign-policy successes happen under his watch than President Obama. The death of bin Laden. The dismantling of al Qaeda. The ouster of Khaddafy. And the end of combat operations in Iraq.” And now the radical American-born Al Qaeda leader, Anwar al-Awlaki, was killed in a drone strike in Yemen.

Jake Tapper: “Remember when Rudy Giuliani warned that electing Barack Obama would mean that the U.S. played defense, not offense, against the terrorists? If this is defense, what does offense look like?”

Andrew Sullivan: “Obama has done in two years what Bush failed to do in eight.”

Kevin Wade is Exploring What Exactly?

Exploring whether Christine O’Donnell is delusional enough for yet another quioxitic run for high office? Whether the tea party message is so toxic in Delaware that it would doom his chances right from the start? Whether Tom Carper is one of those politicians that everyone dislikes but still wins going away every time.

Kevin Wade said Thursday he has formed an exploratory committee to study whether he could mount a credible challenge against Delaware’s senior senator. “If we find out people are satisfied with the status quo, then there’s really no room for me or my message,” said Wade, 59, who lives in Old New Castle and owns a small engineering business near Newark. […]Wade’s 17-person exploratory committee includes state Sens. Colin Bonini and Dave Lawson, state Rep. David Wilson, Elsmere Councilman John Jaremchuk and former state GOP vice chairwoman Cathy Murray.

Oh I see, and let me guess, you will talk to people wearing the Gadsen Flag on their shirts, and you will hear what you want to hear. Regardless, the Republicans need someone to run, and it might as well be Wade. At least it’s not Christine. Amiright?

And I am pleased to see the Exploratory Committee is filled with such perennial winners like Colin Bonini. This campaign is off to a great start.

Holy SH*&# !

BofA To Charge Debit Card Use Fee

Bank of America plans to start charging customers who make purchases with a debt card a fee of $5 per month starting early next year, Reuters reports.

Okay, it is $5.00 per month, when I first read it I thought it was $5.00 per ATM transaction. But still…. BofA if awfully grabby.

So there are two pictures on eBay purporting to be taken during the Civil War (the left photograph) and years before in 1850 (the right photo). These pictures prove that Nicholas Cage and John Travolta are undead vampires of the night.

And that finally explains why either have acting careers in the first place.

h/t to Gawker.

El Somnambulo on Al’s Show Today

Thursday, Sept. 29 at 10 am. We will talk about the latest state legislative rip-offs of the public, and I will share sort-of a first conceptual draft of a ‘Legislative Reform’ agenda, an agenda that I hope many will consider, support, and lobby their legislators on behalf of. We’ll have more on that on DL and possibly at an upcoming public meeting. My tease for the day.

The Al Mascitti Show is on every weekday from 9 am to 12 noon, WDEL-1150 on your AM dial.

All this and the Masked Sleepwalker as well.

Perry Campaign Death Rattle?

I still think Perry will end up as the GOP’s “Not Romney” but this is a horrible development for the Perry campaign.

When white girls kill an entire genre of music in the service of your campaign, it is a very bad sign.

John Sigler Gives DE GOP Imprimatur to Sussex County Racist Gathering: Part III – The Stonewalling Continues

– Seven days have passed since Bill Colley posted a racist screed on the WGMD web site stating that the Mother of the President of the United States had sex with African “savages” to “civilize” them. [The racist rant is still posted on the WGMD web site, and has since been cross posted on an Aryan Nation web site.]

– Five days have passed since DE GOP chair John Sigler was informed that Bill Colley jocularly tweeted that the event would include burning homosexuals and lynching blacks.

– Four days have passed since Sigler ignored the voices within the Republican Party and attended the racist gathering.

– Three days have passed since my first post on this gathering which noted that Colley’s language echoed the rhetoric of the KKK regarding The President of the United States.

– Three days have now also passed since I started trying to find out how if Sigler knew about Colley’s post which stated that the Mother of the President of the United States had sex with African “savages” to “civilize” them.

Sigler must have a position on whether or not Colley’s racist “entertainment” reflects the position of the DE GOP. Signlar was informed of Colley’s unhinged racism and yet he still attended the gathering. I will make more calls tomorrow to try and get Siglar’s official statement on the gathering.

[Side note to Republican David and Frank Knotts. Imprimatur means official recognition or sanction.]

90% of Life is Just Showing Up.

Last night, we had a great turnout at the PDD event for Sen. Coons. Unfortunately, at the same time, an important meeting was taking place down in Dover. The Public Service Commision was holding a hearing on Bloom Energy’s plan for turning the old Chrysler plant into a factory making fuel cells and “Bloom Boxes.” The hearing also concerned Delmarva’s plans to place two clusters of Bloom Boxes on two sites in New Castle County adjacent to Delmarva electrical substaions. These clusters themselves will generate approximately 30 megawatts of power for the electrical grid, which is enough to power approximately 25,000 homes.

And guess what? The hearing room was filled with 9/12 Teabaggers, who all probably said Bloom Boxes were Boxes full of Socialism, or some such tripe, and that global warming is a hoax, and they we should drill baby drill off Rehoboth. Yes, that is what our public officials on the Commissions heard last night. The News Journal was there last night. They won’t be coming to the meeting tonight in Wilmington, because they have their story: Bloom Boxes are evil.

So tonight and tomorrow, progressives get their second chance, not to sway public opinion through the News Journal, but to buck up our public officials that the plan does have support, and that some of their public, if not most of their public, wants renewable and alternative energy.

The meeting is tonight at 7 pm at the Carvel State Office Building Auditorium, Mezzanine Level, 820 N. French Street, Wilmington, Delaware. Tomorrow, our great Progressive neighbors in Sussex County get their chance, with a meeting at the Del Tech Community College, Owens Campus, Arts and Sciences Building, Theater, Georgetown, DE 19930.

And if can’t make either of these meetings, then you simply must send a written comment to the Commission supporting the Bloom Energy plan.

Email your comments by Friday, September 30, 2011 to Kevin Neilson, Regulatory Policy Administrator for the PSC at kevin.neilson@state.de.us

These battles are often won by who shows up and who speaks out. Conservatives will always show up and always speak out. It is what they do. They sit at home all day listening to Rush and Jensen and Colley and Hannity, and then they get emailed orders from the 9/12 Racists to show here or there. And they show up. And when they open their mouths, nothing but bile comes out.

If you don’t want them winning all the time, if you do want a better world, then you have to fight too.

Yes, you.

And yes, you have to get over yourself.

Is the Bloom Energy plan perfect? No.
Should be doing more for renewable and alternative energy? Fuck yeah
But isn’t this at least a step in the right direction? Absolutely.
If this plan is successful, wouldn’t it lead to more plans and more clusters of Bloom Boxes and other types of renewable and alternative energies being explored? Yes!

So what’s the problem?

Either show up at the meetings tonight and tomorrow, or email Mr. Neilson by Friday. You have no other choice. No, you don’t.

Last night, several of the questions asked of and comments to Senator Coons were along the lines of why can’t Democrats, Liberals and Progressives all be on the same page and speak with the same message and why can’t that message get through to the media and to the people. You know why? Because Democrats, Liberals and Progressives are never on the same page and we never speak with the same voice. Sometimes that is a good thing, for it shows that we all have intelligence and that we prefer not to have our opinions handed to us in a talking points memo.

But Conservatives do have their opinions handed to them in a talking points memo. And they all speak with the same voice.

So if you want to fight that and win, you have to put your pride and your purity aside.

This is going to be a theme that we are going to come back to in the coming year. But right now, pound out those emails. Woody Allen said 90% of life is just showing up.

So show the fuck up.
