Bloody Chapter of du Pont Family History Getting Big Screen Treatment

Filed in National by on September 30, 2011

Steve Carell will be playing murder John du Pont in “Foxcatcher” a movie by Moneyball director Bennett Miller.

Via Iwatchstuff.com:

“In the film, Carell will play John du Pont, a member of the famed Du Pont family who used some of his vast, inherited fortune to build a wrestling training camp called Team Foxcatcher on his Pennsylvania estate. The facility managed to lure Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler Dave Schultz to the grounds, and that’s where things get tragic, because it turns out John du Pont was a paranoid schizophrenic, and in January 1996, he fatally shot Schultz to death in front of the estate security chief and du Pont’s wife. What a shitty wrestling camp that turned out to be. After the shooting, du Pont locked himself in his mansion for two days–negotiating on the phone as rich people are allowed to do for a couple days–before going to prison, where he died just last year at 72.

Crispin Glover is going to play Charlie Copeland.

  3. He was a whack job. He was ALWAYS a whack job. But since he was a whack job with obscene amounts of money, people looked the other way. Here’s a real good story on John DuPont:

I hope they include the time he built a giant NEST inside his house and occupied it for months.
Man, that cat’s eggs were scrambled.

John duPont was a whack job and gay. His marriage was clearly an attempt to throw people off of the truth. Many Delaware Wrestlers trained at his estate in the off season because it was the best facility around. These men are now in their 30’s and 40’s. They attended the facility in groups and never wanted to be alone with the guy.

Numerous former wrestlers were approached by John DuPont. Since the wrestling community is very close they were all aware of what he wanted with young men at his facility. The New York Times article downplays his sexuality. According to the New York Times Article linked above:

” But in 1988, his life became unhinged again. He was sued by a Villanova wrestler who said du Pont had made sexual advances, allegations his lawyer called “outrageous.” The suit was settled out of court.”

In short duPont had to pay off the person making the claim. There are many former Delaware high school wrestlers who were well aware of duPont’s predatory homosexual motivations.

Setting up training facilities for what were predominantly male activities seems so transparent after the fact that it is not worth mentioning.
