As an economic strategy, austerity blows. But as a political strategy, it also blows
Sometimes big national spending, similar to this little Delaware spending, is clearly what the times call for. No matter… our county is being held hostage by nihilistic teabag economists, and dim wits who think that we need to starve ourselves back to health.

Budget Cuts
WGMD downstate is reporting that the Georgetown office of the Social Security Administration is cutting its public hours to 9 am to 3:30 p.m. I am sure some stupid teabagger will now start complaining about it.

So who do think are the best Delaware legislators of the 2011 General Assembly session? The worst? Be specific here. It is not enough to say that you think Tony Deluca is an anti-progressive hack. You have to point to something specific, like the double dipping revelations during [...]

Christine O’Donnell is who we thought she was.
David Sessions read the Christine O’Donnell so, for the love of God, we don’t have to. But you do have to read his whole Daily Beast column. As you will see, her whole book appears to be an exercise in denial.

Weekend Open Thread
“It was a wrong-headed move, made for all the wrong reasons, but it was mine.” — Failed U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell (R), writing in Troublemaker that her now infamous “I am not a witch” campaign commercial was a disaster.

A GOP Debate at UDel?
That’s the rumor, from the back channel to the hive mind of the state GOP itself, Celia Cohen. Oh joy.

Too Good to be True
Oh how I love it when anti-gay Rethuglicans get caught with their pants down. Well, he didn’t exactly get caught with his pants down, but he did squeeze the Charmin.

Two Funny Things Happened to Me While in Europe
One was the London riot. The other was that the electronic ones and zeros representing my son’s electronic airline ticket blinked out of existence.

Dramatic Reading of the Drama Queen
On Tuesday, Christine O’Donnell’s new book will be on sale to peddle her lies and mis-characterizations. Among the reported lies in the book, Christine claims:
- Mike Castle and Joe Biden conspired to bring down her campaign
- She never approved the infamous “I am not a witch” ad
- She was a serious candidate
So Ken Grant has decided to ask the reality-based community to get together at the BBC Tavern on Tuesday evening for a happy hour and selected dramatic readings of Ms. O’Donnell’s …ummm… works.

Polling Fix
Some new poll results showing the Democrats taking a big lead in the generic congressional ballot question in two different polls, and showing Obama in a very good position in Colorado and North Carolina.

Gold. Simply Gold.
Hat tip to Mike Matthews, who I suppose was searching for the very latest Christine O’Donnell-related items that he did not already own on that vandalized Amazon page we talked about earlier this week.

Another Hostage. Another Ransom
Really, what Discover is doing here is a small scale repeat of what the Republicans did during the debt ceiling crisis of their own making. Discover is took a hostage, and demanded money or else it would shoot that hostage. And the hostage was 900 Delaware jobs. I guess I should be angry at Levin and Markell for agreeing to the ransom, but at some point, when do we rise up with pitch forks and slay the evil corporations?

Our Father Who Art in Sussex
Our good friends down in Sussex County have been reciting the Lord’s Prayer at council meetings, for some time apparently, as it is now referred as a long standing tradition. So last month, four Sussex residents, supported by Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, filed suit in Federal District Court to end the practice. This week, the County filed a Motion to Dismiss the case, arguing that the recitation of a Christian prayer does not promote Christianity over other religions. Now that’s some good bull….

Markell’s Trip to Chile Bears Some Fruit
Even I think that title’s horrible. Yes, I groaned while typing it. But Governor Markell reports that he has signed an agreement in Chile that will bring Chilean fruit to the Port of Wilmington through 2014, a deal that will create jobs in Delaware.

Blogger Does Good: The Tommywonk Story
Tom Noyes, the man behind Tommywonk, an expert in the filed of alternative and renewable energy, is leaving the blogging world for a job with the State of Delaware “in the area of renewable energy.” I hear he will be Governor Markell’s top energy advisor, but Mr. Noyes is more circumspect in his announcement this afternoon.

I think the Romney Campaign just ended….
You should see Twitter right now. It is brutal, and hilarious, at the same time. This is one of those huge major gaffes that’s simultaneously partly true, partly funny, and totally devastating. And the Romney campaign is so tone deaf that it just defended the line by saying “Do folks think corporations are buildings?” It reminds me of Kerry’s “I voted for it before I voted against it.” It reminds of Dean’s scream. Gingrich’s line of credit at Tiffany’s. Bush, Sr.’s amazement at the use of the bar code scanner and then not knowing the price of milk. A gaffe so simple yet so memorable.

Polling Goodness and More Mitt Comedy

Christine Comedy
One of our commentators thinks we are behind the interesting cyber vandalism on the Amazon page for Christine O’Donnell’s new book, but I swear, we had nothing to do this. Remember, Christine O’Donnell is a national joke, not just a local one.

Cohen Throws Cold Water on Spence
We read Celia Cohen because she is the canary in a gold mine. Like a Seven of Nine liberated from the Borg, but still has a direct link to the hive mind. Actually, considering she is sponsored by Pete DuPont and all his Chateau Republican friends, she is really none of those things, rather she is a bought and paid for spokesman for the Castle blue bloods that formerly ran the Delaware Republican Party. So it is interesting that her new target is Terry Spence.
