Libya

Good bye Qadaffi or Gaddafi, or however the hell you spell his name. Whether or not you think it was a good idea for the U.S. to get involved in the Libyan Civil War via the NATO airstrikes, you have to give credit to President Obama and his team. He took the risk, got criticized on the left and right for it (thoughtful criticism on the left, mindless opposition on the right), and just as with the mission to get Bin Laden, now that that intervention seems to be successful with the fall of the Gaddafi regime, he deserves credit.

Weekend Open Thread

Yeah, it has been a slow couple of days around here. It’s the dog days of August, what can I say. Next weekend we have the Jamboree, so we have that to look forward to. Will Joltin Joe Biden be back from China in time to make an appearance?

Conservatives Now Calling Chrissie-Pooh Out

Brent Bozell has come out to say that conservatives shouldn’t be wasting their time defending COD. Bozell, who is president of the Media Research Center, a conservative media watchdog organization, said in a column on CNN.com that COD’s reaction to the questions posed by Piers Morgan was “downright bizarre.”

We all have our roles to play.

The old Delaware Dem, back in the olden days of Daily Kos, would think that Progressives should be happy with that and would fire off a bombastic diary at any hint of dissention on the left in voice or deed. I guess that was because I felt we on the left should be a nice big happy liberal-Democratic-progressive family, all united on the same team, especially when the only other team in town is a bunch of literally evil theocratic fascists. Indeed, back in the olden days, I started and sustained many a flame war on the Great Orange Satan over this doctrine of SYFPH (Shut your fucking pie hole).

The new me doesn’t care. Be miserable if you want. Blast Obama day in and day out for his failures to give you the pony you wanted, or for failing to give you the right model pony you want. Because the ponies you are crying for is Social Security, or Medicare, or progressive and fair taxation, better schools, single payer universal healthcare, equal rights, ending unnecessary wars of choice, and so on and so on.

My point is that we all have our roles to play. I have slowly but finally realized that over the last few years.

Thursday Open Thread

President Obama has been away from the White House or at Camp David for 70 days during his Presidency. At this same point in his first term, George W. Bush was away for 225 days. We all know which is worst.

Would this happen here?

Japanese citizens have shown incredible honesty in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that brought the country to its knees. It emerged yesterday that the Japanese returned almost $78million in cash found in the quake rubble.

The GOP Establishment is Freaking the F*ck Out.

Bachmann and Perry are trouncing Romney in the polls. That’s why we are hearing about Christie and Ryan (who both are still denying they will run). Eventually, though, the GOP will come to accept what has to happen: the crazies have to have their turn at the wheel. And only after the GOP car has been driven off the cliff can the GOP credibly say to them that crazy doesn’t win elections.

Question of the Day

Has Mike Matthews purchased his copy of Troublemaker yet, and if so, was the first thing he did was to flip to the index to see if he was mentioned?

Ah, Hump Day. You’re at the mid point of the week now. All down hill until the weekend. So a law firm is moving into a new building that will feature a 1,500 gallon shark tank, which will hold three sharks. No mistaking that message.

She’s just not that into you.

“I am disappointed that she has not taken an active role in fixing the party. You can’t go in and screw it all up and walk away,” said Steve Grossman, of Dover, who was O’Donnell’s Kent County campaign coordinator. Looks like the conservative hayseeds downstate are finally starting to realize that Christine O’Donnell, like Sarah Palin, is all about herself.

Ken Grant, I’m calling you out

You, Dave Crossan and Priscilla Rakestraw were more than happy to have Christine O’Donnell whipping up the hayseeds and fetus fetishists on her way to a 17% spoiler share of the 2006 Senate primary. Now you have regrets. I get that, but don’t try to rewrite history.

It’s the anniversary of his death, Michelle. Not the same thing as his birthday.

Michele Bachmann opened her event in Spartansburg, South Carolina today by wishing Elvis Presley a Happy Birthday. The problem is, well there are multiple problems…

Christine O’Donnell: Just Give It Up and Go Away.

It is in my best interests, and in the best interests of the Democratic Party, to keep Christine O’Donnell as the face and leader of the Delaware Republican Party. But it is to the point now where it is just embarrassing. I doubt I will ever feel sorry for her, but come on, Christine… enough! Every time you open your mouth or put pen to paper, a lie is born.

When your own mother….

On her victory lap of Iowa yesterday, Straw Poll winner Rep. Michele Bachmann paid repeated tribute to her local roots, and repeatedly mentioned her family reunion that day, citing it as an excuse for her late arrival at a local party event in Waterloo. But her own mother says Michelle wasn’t there. Ooops.

Yaz (or Yazoo if you are British)

Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke.
It must be limey night, because here is some Bill Bragg
It’s bad timing and me
We find a lot of things out this way
And there’s you
A little black cloud in a dress
The temptation
To take the precious things we have apart
To see how they work
Must be resisted for they never fit together again
If [...]

Yeah, this picture happened II

Beyond the picture, there is so much wrong with Perry that it is going to be tough for the Democrat to combat the wave of crazy that is going to break in this race. For example, Perry thinks that corporate anarchy would be good for the economy:
We’re calling today on the president [...]
