Heckuva Job, Teabaggers

Filed in National by on August 5, 2011

In the latest NYT/CBS poll, Congress has its highest ever disapproval rating, at 82%. Nate Silver says that means if the election were held today, 90-100 members of Congress would lose their seat.

As far as the deal goes, Americans are pretty split, with 46% approving and 45% disapproving. Obama gets the highest ratings of the debacle, and Republicans get the lowest ratings.

Those polls are horseshit, and it doesn’t mean “90-100 members of Congress would lose their seat”. People approve when times are good and disapprove when times are bad, especially when it looks like the times are going to stay bad for awhile (like now). And where are the Teapers to blame? All they did was hold out for the cuts we need in the debt negotiations. O’Bama should have rolled over sooner. He’s only going one term anyway. Now the credit markets are f___ked again and the stocks are reacting negatively.

They are not “cuts we needed.” That’s opinion, not fact.

yes. the Tbaggers show the world market that there is now a strong political force in america willing to default in order to enact their radical agenda and it is Obama’s fault. How very original.

There is a major problem with this poll in that people’s opinion of THEIR congressional representative is always much higher than their approval of congress.
I have 0% favorability rating of the US congress, but unless Pandora primaries him, im voting for Carny in 2012

  4. socialistic ben says:

geezer, he’s right They werent the cuts we needed. The cuts we needed were to defense and tax subsidies.

  5. puck says:

I wish when Repubs demand spending cuts, we put drug price negotiation and Medicare Part D on the table.

I’d also like to see a test vote on a clean bill to repeal the individual mandate.

  6. delbert says:

The Teapers were not going to let the US default. They were playing a game of Chicken, and the Dems chickened out.

  7. socialistic ben says:

because playing chicken with an economy is a wise, mature, and moral thing to do.
thank you for acknowledging they dont give a shit abut america. only winning the argument.

  8. socialistic ben says:

Puck, i dont like the individual mandate, but unfortunately mandating that insurance cartels cover people requires everyone to be paying in. Id rather see a public option created rather than the mandate repealed.

  9. puck says:

“Id rather see a public option created rather than the mandate repealed.”

Why not both? They don’t co-exist well.

The point of a vote on a clean bill is that insurance companies would freak out and Repubs would be on record voting for the mandate.

  10. socialistic ben says:

dont you think a public option requires a mandate in order for it to work?

  11. puck says:

Yes I guess it would work better with a mandate. But the point is, the insurance companies would resist repealing it, so…

Oh, I don’t know what the hell my point is. Why bother engineering another clever trap for Republicans when we will just fall in it ourselves.

  12. socialistic ben says:

heh. now i can only picture democrats as Wyle E Coyote getting crushed by their own broken crap
