Let the Recall Elections Begin

Filed in National by on June 24, 2011

The first ads are up and running in Wisconsin in an attempt to flip the state senate to Democratic control.

The labor-backed progressive group We Are Wisconsin has launched its first television ad of the upcoming recall elections, targeting state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls).

Harsdorf is one of six Republican state senators facing recall in August, all of whom voted in March for the measure stripping public employees of most of their collective bargaining rights. Three Democrats also have recall elections this summer.

Personally, I think the ad is good. Straightforward and lets the voters know that their incumbent is just another politician.

This is going to be a busy summer. Democrats have to pick up only 3 seats without losing any of the seats where their members are targeted to take control of the senate and put the brakes on Scott Walker’s systematic destruction of employee rights and public education. Six rethuglicans are facing recalls, including Sen. Randy Hooper, who’s shacking up with a former aide and whose wife is supporting his recall.

You can help with the recall effort by going to We Are Wisconsin, or the Wisconsin Democratic Party website and making a donation. And if you want to take a nice vacation, Wisconsin is beautiful this time of year. Take a week and go volunteer on one of the recall campaigns.

  1. This is a big story today – Judge David Prosser attempted to strangle another judge within the last week or so:

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser allegedly grabbed fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley around the neck in an argument in her chambers last week, according to at least three knowledgeable sources.

Details of the incident, investigated jointly by Wisconsin Public Radio and the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, remain sketchy. The sources spoke on the condition that they not be named, citing a need to preserve professional relationships.

They say an argument that occurred before the court’s release of a decision upholding a bill to curtail the collective bargaining rights of public employees culminated in a physical altercation in the presence of other justices. Bradley purportedly asked Prosser to leave her office, whereupon Prosser grabbed Bradley by the neck with both hands.

The incident is under investigation. Is this acceptable behavior for a public official, even assuming the interpretation that Prosser wasn’t trying to harm Judge Bradley. It sounds like Prosser has an anger problem.

I think that it is common to find Republicans with anger problems, because their crackpot ideas can’t hold up to much scrutiny.

  3. MJ says:

didn’t Prosser do something else to another female justice? Seems he has issues with powerful women.

    • He threatened to ruin another female justice. He was accused of abusive behavior but I don’t think it was anything physical, iirc.

Seriously, shouldn’t he be in jail for that?

  4. puck says:

Both parties have released statements. Prosser explains that she charged him and threw her neck into his hands.

Well, that settles that. At least it’s not something serious like tweeting a picture of his underpants.

  5. Geezer says:

“Seems he has issues with powerful women.”

No, just those who disagree with him.

  6. MJ says:

I guess Prosser’s explanation is akin to “he ran into my knife, 5 times.”
