Late Night Video — Hear No Evil

Filed in National by on June 8, 2011

The so-called Libertarian Rand Paul tells Sean Hannity that he is willing to undermine our freedom of assembly in order to round up people who are listening to people talking (just talking) about the overthrow of the US government. So Steven Colbert observes that (according to Paul) apparently we have Freedom of Speech, but not Freedom of Listen:

Which may be just fine, you know? Threats of overthrow of the US government is something of a signature feature at at some of these wingnut shooting galleries (some of those with ties to white supremacist groups), so giving these fools a taste of how profiling works would at least be entertaining. Beyond, of course, the entertainment of watching Rand Paul prove that there are no libertarians — just Republicans who can’t face themselves in the mirror.

That people should be able to listen to such speech is a no brainer. But I additionally believe that if we truly esteemed free speech people should be allowed to publicly advocate the overthrow of their government.
