I really appreciate the Richard Engle commentary on NBC, as usual. I just wish this would end the global war on terror.

This Obama ‘success’ will mess up the Faux Nooze people but good!!

  23. Jason330 says:

I’m out. Goodnight everybody. OBL got lucky to have Bush in the White House for 9/11. America is bigger than any given President thought.

    Justice!!!

  30. socialistic ben says:

Obama had to have some knowledge this was happening the past few days. I wonder if it influenced his decision to play the BC game knowing it wouldn’t matter.

  31. socialistic ben says:

answered my own comment. He gave the order to carry out the mission BEFORE he chided Trump about “tough decisions” like firing Meatloaf or Gary Busey. AWESOME

  32. anon40 says:

Bin Laden is dead. Oh Joy! It only cost us $ trillions of borrowed Chinese money to make a martyr out of a whack-job.

    “U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!”–Homer Simpson

I’m glad Bin Laden is dead, but I find the timing a bit too convenient. The RWNJ’s are sure to spin an “October Surprise” type conspiracy theory out of this.

  33. jason330 says:

Wingnuts will naturally act like crazy a-holes. That is a given. The press gets to ignore them for a while if they deice that the story is not about crazy a-hole Republican reaction to events (for once.)

“It only cost us $ trillions of borrowed Chinese money…”

Yes. OBL hit the jackpot when we elected Bush. What are you gonna do? You can’t go back in time.

  34. Delaware Libertarian says:

Does this mean I walk through the airport scanner now without taking off my shoes? Does this mean the end of the Iraq (Americans are still dying there, people) and Afghanistan wars? Does this mean the end of warrantless wiretaps?

A big part of me is happy that Osama is gone, but a part of me loathes this American triumphalism that is associated with it. It was this American jingoism that gave us the Patriot Act and these stupid wars and if we’re not careful, it’ll happen again.

We also must keep the Israeli experience in mind, here. The Israelis have killed many terrorist leaders over the past few decades and they still live in fear of rocket and terrorist attacks. They still live in a militarized society. They knock one down and another will pop back up. They keep on acting as if they’ve killed the weed, but all they’ve done is mow it down, so it’ll come back up again. So every terrorist leader death is just a pyrrhic victory. Will we do the same? Will we make our presence in the Middle East permanent? Will we normalize a few deaths of American soldiers every month (like what we’re doing now in Afghanistan and Iraq)?

Until we fundamentally change our foreign policy from the neo-conservative/liberal interventionist viewpoint that Bush/Obama espouses, I feel that we are going to keep on inciting middle eastern hatred and this hatred will breed more terrorists.

  35. Brian Shields says:

Obama could eat babies for dinner and still be reelected. Whoever the GOP puts up against him in 2012 will be a fall guy.

So expect a Paul/Palin campaign. LOL.

On topic.. Good. Now, maybe, just maybe… we can start winding down major operations and decrease our global intrusion into everyone else’s business.

  36. Joe Cass says:

O.K., this time for real: Mission Accomplished

  37. Which Republican wants to be the guy who’s running against the president that killed bin Laden? I’m sure their spin will be Obama didn’t kill bin Laden soon enough or dead enough.

  38. jpconnorjr says:

Half the callers this AM on WGOP are claiming Fake. Even Gaffney is celebrating the mission. Hate for Obama is so strong that the wingnuts refuse to recognize reality. Can’t wait for Curley later.

  39. RIP GOP says:

The De GOP is dead also.
After Ross they elected a gun nut and dumped on minorities and working class people at the convention.

  40. xstryker says:

    Goodbye birthers, hello deathers.

  41. Auntie Dem says:

I’m having a knee-jerk reaction this morning. I want us to send any Pakistanis who are here and are not naturalized citizens home. I know this is simplistic and won’t work but I’d just like to do something to emphasize that we aren’t total fools. We’re sending them some tiny bit of aid, which obviously isn’t aid but bribe money and I’d like to stop that too. I’m not sure what we can do at the UN but I’d love to see them sanctioned as a terrorist sponsor nation, which clearly they are.

  42. Free Market Democrat says:

The news reports are filled with angst that now OBL will be some sort of martyr that will create a new generation of followers. That may have been true several years ago, but the fact that he and al Qaeda have never been able to duplicate their “success” of 9/11 (London, Madrid and Bali were pale in comparison) in the nearly ten years since then have made him nearly irrelevant. Dumping his body at sea will make it less likely that he will become an Obi-Wan Kenobi-like figure.

  43. Auntie Dem says:

FMD, remember the main mission for the media to make sure we are afraid, very afraid.

  44. fightingbluehen says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I had sort of an uneasy feeling when I saw people dancing and celebrating in the streets of our nation’s capital over a a death. It seemed a bit un-American to me. All they needed were some guns to shoot in the air ,and they would have reminded me of the terrorist that we are fighting.
Although I’m glad that a symbol of terrorism is gone, It was also sort of a solemn moment as it brought back memories of people who lost there lives including a shool mate and team mate of mine.
The death of Bin Laden won’t bring them back, but I guess it does bring some closure to the whole situation for the time being. Good job Obama.

  45. socialistic ben says:

“I want us to send any Pakistanis who are here and are not naturalized citizens home.”
That is ridiculous. How is a Pakistani student studying at an american university IN ANY WAY responsible for what their government does/doesn’t do, knows/ doesn’t know.

Your right. it is a knee jerk reaction, it is wrong. Thousands more Pakistanis than Americans have been murdered by Al Queda. So remember that you identify yourself as a Democrat, which means we don’t punish entire groups of people because of what some people who are from the same country as them did.

  46. socialistic ben says:

@fbh “All they needed were some guns to shoot in the air ,and they would have reminded me of the terrorist that we are fighting.”

but they didnt have guns. thus making your entire post cynical gibberish…. a post in which you yourself express (understandable and shared) approval that the shit-stain is gone. But at least you remembered to call people terrorists who were praising Obama.

  47. anon says:

    Rule for Evil Overlords #233:

When I build my Fortress of Evil, I will not build it next to open space where helicopters may land.

  48. heragain says:

Copying a tweet from last night: @jimsciuttoABC
Jihadis I’ve interviewed since 9/11 always expressed cocky pride the US never got OBL. This is an enormous blow to that pride.

That’s a two-edged sword, as hurting people’s pride so often is.

I can’t bear the ‘Bush really did this” spin. Those people are truly evil.

  49. Joe Cass says:

Suddenly I feel terrible for Sasha and Milia; these poor kids will forever more have to be under heavy security protection.

  50. heragain says:

Joe, they’re at risk from crazies on our own right, already. 🙁

I’ll bet they grow up awesome. 🙂

  51. Auntie Dem says:

ben, I said it was a knee-jerk and wouldn’t work but I do want us to take some sort of action that identifies Pakistan as the rogue state it is. Hillary is right on this one.

  52. jason330 says:

I’m a little surprised by how happy I am about this, so I don’t have a problem with the people who want to express their happiness in ways I find uncouth.

As for the Republican “deathers” and Bush apologists – on some level everyone….EVERYONE knows that the invasion of Iraq was an out and out cluster fuck that postponed this event by 7 years.

Everyone knows that, so suck it GOP losers.

  53. fightingbluehen says:

socialistic ben, I “praised” Obama too. I lit the candles on my Obama shrine, and I only do that on special occasions.

  54. socialistic ben says:

I agree with you auntie about Pakistan as a nation must be held accountable, but suggesting that Pakistanis in America who had nothing to do with this be rounded up and sent home is absolutely the wrong thing to do. Let’s not forget that America “wins the war on terror” by NOT becoming what the terrorists want us to become.

  55. Auntie Dem says:

I’m happy he’s dead, so there.

I remember when I could enter a government building without going through a metal detector and having my handbag x-rayed. I remember when I could get on a plane twenty minutes after arriving at an airport and not have to remove my shoes and throw away my water bottle.

He deserved to die for 9/11.

But also for the Patriot Act and all the many ways his actions changed life in the US forever. He did grave damage to this country.

    I’m glad he’s dead.

  56. Auntie Dem says:

ben, okay, we’re on the same page and you are right about rounding up peaceful Pakistanis. Can we at least harrass them a little? ;o)

  57. socialistic ben says:

Im really not trying to crap in your cornflakes AD.
Im happy he’s dead too. Im even slightly annoyed that it was a quick shot to the eye, but I at least hope he was terrified for a few minutes.

  58. fightingbluehen says:

    Barbarians
Oh, and by the way, proper procedural prayer and edification concerning the Obama shrine do include alcoholic beverages.

  59. Joe Cass says:

the Patriot Act and all the many ways his actions changed life in the US forever. He did grave damage to this country.
We allowed our government to do that to us. Far too many “real” Americans love to wave the flag but aren’t willing to take a hit for it. Just keep believing in god and guns because its working so damn well.

  60. Free Market Democrat says:

I had to explain to my 7 year old this morning why people were happy that we killed someone. Its a bit early (in the day and in her life) to have to hear that this is one of those exceptions to the general rule that it is not nice to kill people.

  61. i doubt this will have a long term political net gain. Even if it does, it is deserved. The President made it a priority. I think you have to give a great deal of credit to our intelligence agencies, our military especially the special forces command, and Gates and Panetta. Panetta ran the operation personally. I think it is good. In fact, the leads came under the previous adminstration. There is enough credit to go around, but I give the President his props. If it failed, he would have gotten the blame. It succeeded so he should get credit.

  62. anon. says:

And get this, you gun haters…….they put a bullet through his stinking turban (gasp!!!!!! Eeeek, oh the horror)! Yes guns dont kill people, bad ass U.S. Navy Seals with guns kill people!

  63. socialistic ben says:

you guys, someone hijacked David’s username and posted a sane sounding comment.
It’s not cool to use other people’s names, people. Even if you are trying to make them sound rational.

  64. There will be plenty of opportunities to find fault with something. Today is not one of them. GOD bless America, and GOD bless the President.

  65. cassandra_m says:

Not so sane when you recall that he elided BushCo not prioritizing the getting of bin Laden. So he’s still working overtime to provide a view of the world that isn’t quite truthful.

  66. pandora says:

    Ah… the good old days. Osama didn’t matter. Deficits didn’t matter… 😉

  67. cassandra_m says:

Oh yes — remember when the Taliban didn’t matter, because Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11?

  68. donviti says:

nd Gates and Panetta. Panetta ran the operation personally. I think it is good. In fact, the leads came under the previous adminstration

what Bat Phone does David Anderson have?

  69. Joe Cass says:

you gun haters…….they put a bullet through his stinking turban (gasp!!!!!! Eeeek, oh the horror)! Yes guns dont kill people, bad ass U.S. Navy Seals with guns kill people!
Your masturbatory fantasies aside, our special forces are trained to complete any mission with their bare hands, an ink pen or the key that you use when you go home to your mom’s basement. SEALs should have guns; RANGERS should have guns; MARINES should have any fucking gun they want! Tiny little wipes that make comments like putting a “bullet through his stinking turban” only strengthen my arguments for stricter enforcement of laws pertaining to firearms.

  70. Aoine says:

what is even funnier is Evan Q is posting over on DP a play by play about SEAL team ops, like he knows what he talking about…LOLOL

well Evan, for the record, those involved in the OP are still being debriefed and will be for about 2-3 more days

those dumb idiots over there are a bunch of wannabe, never-beens that really do have masturbatory fantasies, it is so sad really to see people so desperate to be part of something that they coulds only fantasize about, and them expose thier ignorance by posting about it

Yo, wake up, some people out here might actually know about special OPs work and might actually read your posts, then have a good chuckle at your expense.

Evan pay your bills, clear your debts and STFU! altho you are good for a laugh

  71. cassandra m says:

I rarely go over there, but wonder if I should go ask about the super secret Best Buy Sanction?

  72. anon. says:

Hey Joe Cass, kiss my ass.

  73. Aoine says:

@Cass – think they will give you the secret sign and handshake??

  74. Joe Cass says:

@anon get off your mommy’s lap and bear it. Come concealed, coward.
@Aoine I’m certain the “secret” sign is the heil salute and I aint shaking hands with jerk offs. Eeuuuwww.

  75. Joe Cass says:

Are they talking about “Team VI” over there? Thats what was memed on conservative radio. The same government they hate creates an invincible squad to do their bidding. Then the goverment outs them. I want birth certificates. If a Latino pumped two rounds into Usama it doesn’t count. Don’t even tell me it was Israeli weapons. Did the rotary aircraft use Bell or Royce engines? Evan doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground, which is where he’s going when he crosses my path.

  76. Aoine says:

Maybe this is the Freudian slip by Fox that really gives it all away….

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/02/fox-anchor-obama-dead_n_856299.html

  77. Aoine says:

@joe – their hands are probably all yucky from those masturbatory fantasies anyway….

    double EWWWWWW

wouldn’t know V1 from V or II or the difference either…however Eva might recognize a “hole in the wall”…. :-0 hee hee

  78. MJ says:

The only bats David has are in his belfry.

  79. Joe Cass says:
