Ron Williams Channels GOP Whining

Filed in National by on February 28, 2011

Judging by yesterday’s Ron Williams column, the Delaware GOP leadership fight is already over. It’s time for the inmates to run the asylum. Tom Ross found a friendly ear in Ron Williams.

Because of the national publicity, state Republican Party Chairman Tom Ross was getting telephone calls from several fellow state chairs, including those in Connecticut and New Mexico, who were seeing a drop in the polls for Republican candidates in their state. They attributed it to that “wacko from Delaware” who’s making all Republicans look like goofballs.

Ross also told me recently that the chances of newcomers to Delaware joining the state Republican Party had been undermined by her. People with political convictions, and money to contribute, don’t want to join a party with people like her.

I’m sorry, but Connecticut and New Mexico has its own wingnuts, no need to blame ours. People don’t want to join the Delaware Republican Party if it’s full of nuts? Well, duh. Remember, Delaware’s Republican Party chose O’Donnell as its nominee, so perhaps she is a good reflection on the Delaware GOP.

The Republican rumor mill, by the way, has Phillips running for governor against Jack Markell next year.

OK, I said, you can bad-mouth the far right-wingers and tea party until the sun comes up, but my question remains: What are you going to do about them come next election? You know O’Donnell’s going to run against Tom Carper, and Urquhart has already said he’s running for Congress. These people can’t win and you admit they’re costing you money. And now you’ve got Mike Protack, another perennial loser who has never garnered a legitimate party following, running for state party chairman. And from what I hear, he could actually win this thing.

I finally received an answer that at first I thought was simply flip and sarcastic. But the more I thought about it, it might not be a bad idea, at least in the short run. “We’re just going to give them the keys and let them run the show. See ya later.”

Mike Protack as chairman of the Delaware GOP? God doesn’t love me that much. Vance Phillips vs Jack Markell for governor should be fun. I can’t wait for Phillips to tell us how he’s underpaid.

Although I’m not a fan, I would bet that URQ could win in DE eventually and especially if Ms. O’Donnell is not on the ticket.

  2. I don’t know meatball. I thought that too but he didn’t outperform O’Donnell by very much, I think only 1% or so. Bonini and Wagner did much better.

  3. socialistic ben says:

pretty sure Urk was riding COD’s coat tails this past election….. those crazy crazy coat tails.

  4. Jason330 says:

If Williams can be believed, the DEGOP is no longer a party that is interested in winning elections. Yes. It is that simple.

  5. anon says:

Urq is a complete fascist…seen his nazi you tube tape.

  6. meatball says:

That’s what I’m saying. O’Donnell dragged the superficial URQ down. Urq has money, he now has a team, he has a superficial message, better name recognition, and he has the teabaggers. I think to the non-poliwonk voter, he has appeal.

FOX is big. Rush is big. As long as he doesn’t get tied to the nazi stuff, I think he appeals to the low information voter. Low taxes, free market, LOW GAS PRICES. That stuff resonates, for some reason, with people who pay no taxes, recieve a goverment check, won’t work, and don’t own a car. I meet these people all the time (well, I do live in Sussex and deal with the indigenous population).

    He has a chance.

  7. Obama2008 says:

people who pay no taxes, recieve a goverment check, won’t work, and don’t own a car. I meet these people all the time

Karma’s gonna get you one of these days.

  8. meatball says:

    @ Ben and Anon,

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t support the guy, but as themes go, the war may be lost. Many people vote agaist their best intersts. I don’t claim to be able to explain it, and I do my best to counteract it, but I’m sensing the URQ surge if “things” don’t improve for us low class folks.

  9. meatball says:

    @ Obama2008,
Yet, they will always blame the admin, hence URQ is strong.

  10. Liberal Elite says:

“people who pay no taxes, recieve a goverment check, won’t work, and don’t own a car. I meet these people all the time”

Get rid of the car part, and you’ve just described the filthy rich in America.

Just like welfare except they don’t take small bills…

  11. Jason330 says:

Urkel is the model of the phony populist millionaire. His campaign RV/command center is worth more than the average teabagz house. Beyond the brain dead teabagz, I don’t know who Meatball thinks would vote for him.

  12. cassandra m says:

“We’re just going to give them the keys and let them run the show. See ya later.”

The *we* here seems likely to be the Republican people in this state who write the checks. Which is how Ross can be so gilb about handing over the keys. Looks to me that the plan is to let the teajadis fight amongst themselves without either the money or the credibility of rest of their party.

  13. anon says:

meatball, do you really think Delawareans will vote for a man who thinks that victims of rape who get pregnant should be forced by the government to carry the baby to term? His separation of church and state was Hitler’s idea comments on video are the least of this guy’s problems.

  14. liberalgeek says:

Until election day, I was in Meatball’s “Urkel is more likely to win than CO’D” camp. However, that seems unlikely now. CO’D actually did better than Urk, which disproves my assumption. There were people that voted for CO’D that didn’t vote for Urk. I still can’t wrap my brain around it. For all of his faults, he has at least been employed without suing his employer.

And if Urkel can’t even motivate CO’D’s voters to vote for him, how is he going to convince a John Carney voter?

  15. jason330 says:

Remember when Don Imus said that the Rutgers University Women’s Basketball team couldn’t dance? Well, this O’Donnell supporter does:

Please join us in asking for the NEWS JOURNAL to fire Ron Williams. Don Imus was fired for making similar comments about the Rutgers University Women’s Basketball team. Would any MAN who was the official nominee of the GOP in 2008 and 2010 be described this way?

    The NJ comments never disappoint.

  16. Aoine says:

@ Jason – that supporter isn’t just a “supporter – it is in fact Jonathan Mosley – the witch’s own champion and erstwhile guardian of all things Christine…and DP contributor…

“And when are the leaders of the DEGOP going to take responsibility for their savage, thug-like behavior and their failures with their stewardship of the DEGOP? In any business, it would be time for the entire leadership to resign and let a new, fresh team take over.” – Mosley

as for the thugs in the DEGOP – who was shoving women in the foyer of the SCRAO office?? Who did a walk out on Tom Ross? who filed a complaint with DSP for harassment and why? Its funny to read, coz Coley claims he led the walk out and then another chimes up and claims he did so too – then they say it wasn’t planned??

If they cannot keep SCCOR together and viable due to in-fighting over whether the Catholic or Protestant version of the Lord’s Prayer is the correct one to say for the opening of meetings, imagine the fun we can have with their inept handling of the party.

Altho’ it might get scary for a while in Sussex…

  17. jason330 says:

“…they cannot keep SCCOR together and viable due to in-fighting over whether the Catholic or Protestant version of the Lord’s Prayer is the correct one to say for the opening of meetings.”

    If true, LMAO!

  18. Newshound says:

“Urkel is the model of the phony populist millionaire. His campaign RV/command center is worth more than the average teabagz house”

Funny, but not true. The avg. medium income and education level of so-called TP folk is higher than your run-of-the-mill liberal populists, says all collected data.

It ain’t the tobacco-chewin,’ deer-flavored jerky eatin,’ Blue-Collar Comedy trio-lovin’ Bubbas with firearms and Gadsen flags who support the Tea Party that are galvanized. It’s a wide swath of Indies and Blue Dogs too.

Be very careful jason, thaar gunna git ya…lol.

  19. Von Cracker says:

    TPers are older and white.

They have cash and degrees (though if the school has a directional name let’s just say that degree is shit, comparatively speaking) because they’re old and white, says the correlation fairy. Funny thing is that if these old white folks were young today, they probably couldn’t afford an advanced degree now and being white back then probably didn’t hurt their admittance changes all that much either.

The only difference between standard conservatives (think Buckley) and TPers is how far the TPers will go through with self-imposed retardation.

Moody’s says the GOP cuts will kill 7 million jobs, well don’t believe your lying eyes! Moody’s is run by a bunch of anti-capitalism libtards with a penchant fer some fly-by solchelistisms tomfoolery!

  20. Von Cracker says:

Correction – Moody’s says 700,000 jobs lost. But who gives a shit about that when we all know that fetal voting rights is paramount!

  21. Geezer says:

Meatball, your intake valve has been gummed up by living amongst the feeble-minded. In the last election, Christine O’Donnell won Kent and Sussex counties by a total of about 16,000 votes — the same amount she lost by in the city of Wilmington alone. The middle class voting against its own interests hasn’t reached New Castle County yet, and there’s no sign it’s going to any time soon. Furthermore, Urquhart does not have enough money to keep throwing away a million or more per election. I agree he’s more electable than O’Donnell, but then so is Vance Phillips, and he’s not getting elected outside of Sussex in this lifetime either.

  22. Newshound says:

Moody’s??? It’s a credit-rating agency and has nothing to do with job forecasting. You know, one of the Big 3 ratings agencies that colluded with Goldman Sachs, et al to deceive nearly every instititional investor, foreign investor and bond-holder on the planet with their AIG-aligned credit default swap chimera.

    Duh!

Newsflash. Unions followed the Democratic party and now sits at the precipice of a cliff. Obama has backed himself into a corner. The false narrative of union-busting and Wall Street smashing the middle class is such a weak argument that elected union officials are stocking up on prozac before their Cadillac health care plans get realigned with the rest of America.

How precious is Obama’s 2007 campaign rhetoric where he lionizes unions and promises to ‘put on my walking shoes’ to stand with the working man and woman on the picket line. Priceless.

I’m holding and cupping my hand to my ear…waiting for the Obama administration to double down on the single-most ridiculous political calculation in decades – backing public-sector unions during a time when the majority of working-class Americans think that bully unions, with their extortion-like bargaining tactics, are on the wrong side of history.

  23. Newshound says:

And do Democrats, and liberals in general, really think that the fleebag Wisconsin Senate Democrats are winning in the court of public opinion?

I guarantee you that this undemocratic ploy will haunt every one of those holed up in Illinois in the near future. Couple that with high unemployment, the rise of gas prices and inflation and 2012 is not looking too blue – at least not in hue; but in mood…that’s a whole other story. I can’t wait to see how it plays out.

I know Bill Daley yanked Obama back regarding his pro-union rhetoric. Saying to his boss, WTF are you doing? You cannot spend all of your political capital in one moment.

  24. Newshound says:

Obama is spending his stored political capital faster than stimulus and auto bailout money. Lol!

  25. pandora says:

Hmmm… Newshound is in a blogging panic.

  26. Liberal Elite says:

@Newshound “Funny, but not true. The avg. medium income and education level of so-called TP folk is higher than your run-of-the-mill liberal populists, says all collected data.”

Not true. I’ve seen your data.. The simple truth is that education level is highly correlated with liberal self identification. In the over $100,000/year crowd, the single most significant correlating factor is education. Educated high earners are overwhelmingly liberal. Also note that there is a nearly equal split between liberals and conservatives in that demographic.

Finally, There is a large difference between liberals and the average democratic voter.

I think that the rather pathetic image of the typical teabagger is right on target.

  27. Jason330 says:

Blogging panic is so sad to watch.

  28. Newshound says:

I’m actually quite relaxed – one could even argue I’m sanguine after reading about and hearing all of the centrists, and even many liberals aligned with my POV on the Faustian Bargain that the Democratic Party made with public-sector unions or vice-versa.

I’ll give you a mental picture of the uncleanliness of public-sector unions: Senate Pro Tem Anthony DeLuca

  29. Joe Cass says:

Newshound aka Pavlov’s peanutbutter pup, A Moody’s guy.
This is one of your masters that wants to to cut all taxes to a level lower than the hedge fund dildos current 15%. Love your outrage, you should find a basis for it.

  30. Liberal Elite says:

@NH “…I’m sanguine after reading about and hearing all of the centrists, and even many liberals aligned with my POV…”

I guess you’ve missed much of the latest polling data.

  31. Newshound says:

Hey Cass, why don’t you ask your union leadership why your ‘closed shop’ union doesn’t like minorities as El Som so preciently pointed out last week. Afraid of a little diversity in the ranks? Your union is whiter than the Tea Party!

  32. Newshound says:

“I guess you’ve missed much of the latest polling data.”

I rarely, if ever, use polling data to bolster an argument. I look long and wide, read, listen, apply critical analysis and debate as necessary.

  33. pandora says:

So very embarrassing on so many levels. You assumptions are making an ass out of you.

  34. Newshound says:

You dolt! Mooody’s Analytics has nothing to do with the credit rating agency. It’s a wholly-owned privately held economics forecasting company. Besides, Mr. Zandi and his esteemed father taught me economics at one of my alma maters.

  35. I rarely, if ever, use polling data to bolster an argument. I look long and wide, read, listen, apply critical analysis and debate as necessary.

In other words, you rarely let facts get in the way. The polling is important since you were just saying that the majority agrees with Walker. Multiple polls, from both left-leaning and right-leaning pollsters, show public opinion on the union’s side.

  36. Liberal Elite says:

@UI “In other words, you rarely let facts get in the way.”

That’s the 1st commandment in the Tea Party’s bible: “Don’t question what we tell you about politics”

(The real Bible’s 1st too, translated to read: “Don’t question what we tell you about god”)

The goal in both cases is to suppress independent thinking. Thinking is dangerous to both.

  37. Joe Cass says:

Dear LapDog, you know nothing of our membership. We may be more white than a tea party but nowhere near as ignorant. Go get your Michael Weiner sugar, you need a little more loopy.

  38. And right on cue, a new poll has been released. Americans oppose Walker’s plan by a 2:1 margin – 60 to 33. Strongly oppose beats strongly support by the same margin, 38% to 18%.

  39. Who is Ron Williams?

  40. Geezer says:

“Mr. Zandi and his esteemed father taught me economics at one of my alma maters.”

    Too bad it didn’t take.

  41. Geezer says:

“the majority of working-class Americans think that bully unions, with their extortion-like bargaining tactics, are on the wrong side of history.”

    Spoken like a true brownshirt.

When, pray tell, will you exhibit some of the “independent original thought” you constantly brag about but never indulge in? How is it that your language constantly tracks the talking points of a right-wing noise machine you pretend not to hear?

  42. cassandra m says:

Huh. Moody’s Analytics and Moody’s Investor Service both owned by Moody’s. That is some not having anything to do with one another. Especially since the Analytics side of the house says that they help investors make sense of the ratings side of the house.

    Go figure.

  43. Joe Cass says:

I’m reposting from Nice Guy Eddie’s Political Blog
    Four Levels of Conservative Reasoning
Level One: Bill O’Rielly / John Boehner – Mitch McConnell

Person A tries to argue a conservative position. Person B refutes their argument with facts, research, evidence, reason and logic.

The liberal concludes that person A is wrong.

The conservative concludes that person B is liberal.

Level Two: Sean Hannity / Trent Lott – Tom DeLay

Person A, in attempting to defend the conservative position, is caught in a demonstrable lie by person B.

The liberal concludes that, as the argument was predicated on a falsehood, person A must be wrong.

The conservative concludes that since person A is conservative, person B must be wrong.

Level Three: Rush Limbaugh / James Inhofe – Jim Bunning

Person B further presents person A with strong, scientific evidence that his (conservative) position is wrong.

The liberal concludes that the conservative position is weak because it’s not supported by evidence

The conservative concludes that the evidence is weak, since it doesn’t support the conservative position.

Level 4: Glenn Beck / Michelle Bachman – Sarah Palin

Person A continues to spout falsehoods and starts displaying hypocritical, faux outrage over non-stories, made up allegations and paranoid nonsense. Person B continues to demonstrate that each point, in turn is becoming increasingly desperate and absurd.

The liberal wonders why anyone is still listening to person A.

The conservative wonders why person B hates his country so much.

    PeanutButter Pup, you’re the A.

  44. jpconnorjr says:

Ron Williams was born and raised in Laurel a bastion of right wing red neck, now Tea Party Thought and our Right wing friend Vance Phillips. One thing you can say about Vance is that he is a charming personable guy who throws one of the best crab and watermellon fundraisers ever. Ron Williams is a dour right wing punk who poses as impartial.

  45. Cpt Robespierre says:

As a former oppo researcher, I just want to throw in the point that there is a significant quantity of dirt on and wildly over-the-top wingnut statements from Mr. Urquhart floating around the web and saved at Carney HQ. Given the O’Donnell insanity, there wasn’t much need to dump that information during the last election, but if he runs again and looks like more of a threat, I’m guessing we’ll see more of it.

(And that, kids, is why you don’t announce your candidacy for federal office before the Google cache of your monstrously crazy blog fades away.)

  46. Newshound says:

Moody’s, Economy.com, Moody’s Analytics, Moodys.com. Similar, but not the same. Ergo the importance of proper attribution.

    One Level of Liberal Reasoning:

A Conservative posits an argument (whether it’s rooted in facts, research, opinion or otherwise).

The Liberal never answers the original question; thus instead, and with much fanfare, offers an irrelevant thesis.

If that doesn’t seem to work well, the Liberal will then plead a Straw Man argument; still not getting their point across, the Liberal will attempt the personal Ad Hominum argument; and thus the Liberal will end with some allusion to some sort of lacking educational credentials on the part of the Conservative even though the Conservative oftentimes has multiple degrees above and beyond the Baccalaureate level of the aforementioned Liberal who has by now constructed a metaphysical blind spot so dissolute that it is diametrically oppossed to any rational thought as promulgated by the Ancient Greeks.

The Conservative goes back to work and the Liberal is left with a face that only a Rosacea commercial producer could only love along with an undergarment so damp that the Depends manufacturer, of which the Liberal is adorned with, calls on their legal department to immediately retain the services of one David Bois in fear of some flaggrant lawsuit by said Liberal in the name of civil rights and/or social justice.

  47. Liberal Elite says:

@NH “It ain’t the tobacco-chewin,’ deer-flavored jerky eatin,’ Blue-Collar Comedy trio-lovin’ Bubbas with firearms and Gadsen flags who support the Tea Party that are galvanized. It’s a wide swath of Indies and Blue Dogs too.”

So then… you think that this cartoon is fairly accurate?

    (shameless repost from Progressive Delmarva)

  48. Geezer says:

“I’ll give you a mental picture of the uncleanliness of public-sector unions: Senate Pro Tem Anthony DeLuca”

    Argument by anecdote.

“Moody’s??? It’s a credit-rating agency and has nothing to do with job forecasting.”

    Argument by ad hominem attack.

You really need to do better to live up to your self-proclaimed standards. Since you are so learned in economics, what’s your estimate of how many jobs will be lost as government payrolls are cut? It’s quite obvious jobs will be lost. You have offered no data to refute the 700,000 estimate.

  49. Aoine says:

@Jason – YES! the SCCOR regiment falling apart because of a toss up over the version of the Lord’s Prayer is true – Bill Colley spoke on in at WGMD as well as blogged and whined about it for weeks

THAT, is how trifiling they are – hand them the keys to the republican party in DE. They will spend all their capital tearing themselves apart over stupid issues like that….

and Don Ayotte in the background screaming :shut your pie hole: Colley staging walkouts and them all pointing fingers at each on who is to blame for their failures

a circular firing squad if I ever saw one…..and LapDog newshound would be the first to get it
Obviously Newshound i not quite familir ith the T-Bagger “elite” in Sussex, the highly mis-informed voter, that lives off of farm subsidies or SS checks etc…but think only “democratic welfre queens” populate Wilmington.

really Newshound – you should go to a Sussex GOP meeting – you’d fit right in – a pack of dogs in heat- all out to fuck each other..read the Cape Gazette from this week for a taste of what they are.

  50. Aoine says:

whoops = sorry for the typos – tried to correct but it would not fix….

  51. DeLuca may be unclean, but he wasn’t a member of any public sector union. He was in the Electricians’ Union, a ‘business manager’ in fact.

  52. Geezer says:

Newshound has the earmarks of one of those paid to troll liberal blogs, not a SuxCo knuckle-dragger.

  53. Aoine says:

#Geezer – can’t say that I’d disagree with that assessment – I do like the knuckle-dragger imagry tho…LOL fits right in

  54. Newshound says:

“DeLuca may be unclean, but he wasn’t a member of any public sector union. He was in the Electricians’ Union, a ‘business manager’ in fact.”

I did know that fact. I figured, however, that the DOL gig had some public employee union attachment to it.

  55. cassandra m says:

Another idiotic assertion from someone at the so-called Party of Business:

Moody’s, Economy.com, Moody’s Analytics, Moodys.com. Similar, but not the same. Ergo the importance of proper attribution.

Who changes his tune once again.

Moody’s is the parent company of Moody’s Analytics, Moody’s Investor Service and the various .coms it owns.

So you would be the one with the difficulties in attribution here, based on what you said here:

Moody’s??? It’s a credit-rating agency and has nothing to do with job forecasting.

So you are the one who is quite wrong here. Moody’s is the parent of all of these items. The credit rating arm of Moody’s is the Investor Service. The analysis and forecasting arm of Moody’s is the Analytics arm.

When you don’t really know, the thing to do is to stop digging. Someone who knew something about economics or even investing would have know these basics about Moody’s.

  56. Von Cracker says:

This NB guy, sheesh….It really is like a child trying to get his way through games of semantics and literalism.

  57. cassandra m says:

Which is right out of the wingnut playbook, right? They think that if they provide said games with enough disdain that they can get away with it. The thing that just slays me is how they just double down on the stupid even when clearly called on it.

  58. Von Cracker says:

Yup. False equivalency, specious reasoning and cognitive dissonance are the only way they can keep their arguments afloat. And the corporate media allows it.
