Just a special live blog in the comments of tonight’s memorial service in Tuscon, Arizona. It has just begun, and coverage is on MSNBC and CNN (presumably Fox News as well).

Armed And Thinking
I think Joe Zamudio was very lucky and very wise in his split second decision making. Please read the entire article.
If you haven’t heard about Mr. Zamudio, he’s the guy who heard the shots fired and ran toward them. He was armed.
But before we embrace Zamudio’s brave intervention as proof of the value of being [...]
Special Election Musings
Thursday is the special election to fill the New Castle County Council Presidency position that opened up as a result of Chris Coons’ victory in November. Tim Sheldon (D) and Tom Kovach (R) are the candidates. Their campaigns have picked up steam in the past week with accusations by Sheldon that Kovach hasn’t disclosed potential [...]

OK , kids, this has to be short as the plow has come through and I gotta go to work.
As chronicled in the News-Journal, yesterday’s session was largely ceremonial. Deepest sympathies go out to Sen. Cathy Cloutier, whose father passed away, and who was unable to make session. Deepest scorn goes out to Sen. Colin [...]
The Tea Party In Delaware And Arizona Have A Lot In Common
In the words of Mistermix, What The Hell Is Happening In Arizona?
A nasty battle between factions of Legislative District 20 Republicans and fears that it could turn violent in the wake of what happened in Tucson on Saturday prompted District Chairman Anthony Miller and several others to resign.
Miller, a 43-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills resident and former [...]

There will be a lot written about the fact that the Republican shooter in Arizona wanted a return to the gold standard. The gold standard is a big thing amoung teabaggy 2nd Ammendment Republican gun nuts. Glen Beck has made some great money by telling the morons who follow him to hoard gold.
Amanda Marcotte at Pandagon makes the case that the love of gold among whack-job Republicans has no basis in any intellectual arguments about money supply at all – but is based on pure and shallow emotion.
Look at me with all this egg on my face
I should not have jumped to conclusions. It has now been confirmed by multiple sources that Jared Loughner was a raging liberal all whacked out on the hate message that streams out of the liberal media 24/7. You’ve heard that right?

Anon referenced these two posts over at Delaware Politics in an earlier thread. It truly is popcorn worthy.

Legislative Pre-Game Show, Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends.
The 146th Delaware General Assembly convenes today for what will be a challenging session. With the economic recovery going slowly, and with less Federal assistance to get the state through tough times, this shapes up to be at least as challenging a year fiscally as was [...]

Katz in Maine Skiing Accident
Katz and his school-age daughters were among eight people injured on Dec. 28 after a ski lift derailed at the Sugarloaf Mountain Ski Resort and they fell 35 feet to the ground. We hope Mr. Katz and his daughters are not too seriously injured, and that they all recover fully.

The Republic shall fall….
Glenn Beck to Sarah Palin: “But please look into protection for your family. An attempt on you could bring the republic down.”
10Jan2011 | Delaware Dem | Comments Off | ContinuedWow.

The mug shot of Jared Lee Loughner has been released. It would appear that, prior to the assassination attempt, he shaved his head. Prior photos showed him with a head of full curly hair, and then a nicely trimmed head of hair. Is he a skinhead? Maybe, given the association of that white supremacist group, but we don’t know that for sure yet. To me, the more important aspect of this photo is the eyes and smile. Crazy, evil, or both?

This is what we call an Admission.
“I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually. You don’t have to do it with bombast. I hope the other side does that.” — Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, in an interview with Global Grind, seemingly admitting that his various collection of “news” anchors have engaged in violent [...]

Daniel Hernandez is a Real American hero.
Perhaps you have read about the 20 year old congressional intern named Daniel Hernandez. He had been hired as an intern not five days before the horrible shooting. He was there at the Safeway on Saturday working the admission gates. When the shooting started, he ran towards (!) the gunfire, checked on [...]

Should Republicans and conservatives be shamed for their violent rhetoric? Sure. Should Sarah Palin be forever condemned until she, without excuse, apologizes for her hate speech and illustrations? Absolutely. Should it be outlawed? Of course not.
