Republicans Discover Senate Hate

Filed in National by on January 20, 2011

Isn’t this just precious?

Ahead of the vote Wednesday, House Republican leaders pressed a new line of attack, accusing Democrats of thwarting the will of the people by not committing to give the bill an up-or-down vote in the Senate.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) suggested Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was afraid to actually bring up the health care repeal bill in the Senate. Republicans believe the outcome in the Senate could show a majority favors repeal, boosting their efforts.

“If Harry Reid is so confident that the repeal vote should die in the Senate then he should bring it up for a vote, if he’s so confident he’s got the votes,” Cantor said.

Can I offer advice? Perhaps if Cantor wants a vote in the Senate, he could work with Democrats to give them something they want. Then, all he has to do is to convince 14 Democrats not to filibuster. I can’t wait to see him bargaining with Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman.

The Senate is exhausted from bending over for Republicans all last year. Let them catch their breath before they start passing more Republican legislation.

Speaking of the Senate, Lieberman’s announcement yesterday that he will not seek relection in 2012 brought joy to my heart. I wasn’t alone. See Gail Collins column in today’s NYT at:

    What a dork.

You’ve got to hand it to the Republicans. They’ve got balls to filibuster, filibuster, filibuster for two years, then turn around and decry the Senate not proceeding with a bill.
